Cameron's Fast Buck lanes - 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
In reality it'll be take a lane away from us peasants and charge extra for exactly the same as we have now. It's his 'M4 Bus Lane' idea but this time for rich sales reps in BMW, Merc and Audi's ...you know ...utter dicks. -
Nom de plume - origins? 13 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Mine is very boring (well, I trained as a chartered accountant) - simply the model name of a much-loved Audi which I had when I joined the forum in 2004. -

Your chance to save ailing motor manufacturers.... 28 May 2009 (Forum)
I'd run it along the lines of VW Group - with common platforms and technical components but different bodywork. The mass market brands would be Peugeot, Fiat and Chrysler, with Alfa Romeo pitched to rival Audi, while Jeep would compete with Land Rover. Citroen would become the group's electric vehicles brand. -
New car colours-white makes a comeback 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Noticed recently on my daily commute quite a few new cars in white. Not just compact cars like Pandas and the like but prestige models like Audi and Bentley. Makes a change from every other car being metallic silver but hardly practical for hacking along the motorway especially at this time of year? Silver seemed to be the best colour for not showing the dirt but white? -
Sat Nav and accidents 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
A high proportion of Sat Nav's I see in cars are mounted on the windscreen and I've often thought these can't be good for road safety - especially for... -
How knowledgable are RAC / AA men about cars? 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I have probably called the RAC out 5 times and they have always been really really good, fast accurate diagnosis, back on the road 4 times out of 5 too. One guy was a true Golf enthusiast who had recently put a 225BHP Audi TT engine into a mark 2 Golf GTi and that was a pretty good chat. So what are their qualifications? -
Are German Generals badge snobs? 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Apparently in order to save money, the 1 star generals P4 car rating was scrapped in favour of the "lower" P3 band. P4 meant Audi A4 or VW Passat while P3 meant BMW 3 series, Mondeo or Vectra. I have difficulty seeing the difference here - is an A4 more of a status symbol than a 3 series? How is a Passat better than a Vectra? -

Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 2001 1.0 - CVT auto - fluid top-up 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
It's had a FSH but I can't see any record of CVT fluid changes. Presumably it needs one from time to time. Audi were most insistant I got mine changed on the A4 multitronic at 40k miles. Any other advice, apart from "don't buy one, they always go wrong" ? -

Gene Hunt's New Car 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Read today about 'Ashes to Ashes', the Life on Mars spin off to be shown next year. Apparently to be set in 1981, it will feature Gene Hunt driving around in an Audi Quattro, rather than a Cortina! But am I right in thinking that '81 is about 2 years too soon for the Quattro anyway, and even if it is not, the only Quattro that would have been around then was the UR Quattro which cost about £55-£60k in today's money; not a likely car purchase for a detective, surely? -
"New" auto car 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Well I have succumbed to an Audi S8, 1997 vintage and have had it converted to LPG (47MPG equivalent at the moment). It’s got the auto tip box on it. When waiting at lights do I put it in neutral and put the hand brake on (as I do at the moment), or do I just sit there with it in drive with the brake pedal down? -
Ibiza cupra 20v Turbo no oil! 1 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Was looking at buying an Ibiza cupra with the Audi 20v turbo engine (which was a very good price) but when checking car over found no oil on dipstick at all! Had let car stand for at least half hour for any to drain back. Car had a full history and had a major service end of August. -
car for 6k at auction? 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I've visited a couple of car auctions over the last couple of weeks, and I think I'm ready to take the plunge with about £6k. I thinking of a 3 yr old Golf or an Audi A3 (I think I can get one of these for about £6500). Don't know much about cars, so are these good choices for the money. Is there anything else I should consider (perhaps a Seat Leon?)? Really can't stretch my budget to much more than 6 - 6.5k -
Crazy insurance prices 8 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It's costing me 280 a year to insure an old banger worth 200 quid, third party fire and theft. I phoned up to ask them how much extra it would be if I changed cars to a R reg Audi S8 4.2, which is listed as Group 20. An extra 270 quid. I asked the dude to check his price three times, as I thought there must be something wrong. I don't get how they work out insurance prices. -
How many backroomers drive automatics? 30 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Until about six years ago, I'd always considered an auto box the 'soft option', requiring an obligatory Trilby hat on the rear parcel shelf. At that time I 'inherited' an old Audi 100 auto, and have not owned a manual transmission car ever since! A lot of my commuting was down a very busy dual carriageway (the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge), with traffic frequently crawling or at a standstill. -
A Question for Dr Aprilla 14 Jun 2004 (Forum)
How do you rate the engineering, design and manufacturing philosophy of the three German car manufactureres such as VW/Audi as compared to BMW and Me0rcedes. Do you beleive these cars are unnecesarily complicated or over engineered? How much difference is thier between a mass produced ford/vauxhall and say a mass produced BMW or Merecedes. -
Faulty electronics - bulging caps? 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Sorry if this has been raised before, Im new here. Ive seen several references to "mysterious" failures in ECUs, eg in the Audi climate control thread. Some people have even referred to failed electrolytic capacitors. Has anyone here heard of the infamous "bulging caps" problem thats been the scourge of the computer industry for the last couple of years?
