He's taking inspiration from the Dartford Toll, M6 Toll, M4 Bus Lane, Congestion Charge, Bus Lanes in general because you know...they all worked brilliantly.
Oh no wait, they dont.
If theres severe congestion when everybody is free to use all of the lanes then how will pricing people out of one of the three lanes do anything other than add to congestion? It'll be just like it is now, flying Audi in the outside lane doing 147 on his phone while us normal folk stay on the left - not in the middle. Unless of course every motorist paid it, then you still end up with exactly what we have now just made a bit more expensive which is really their plan. Motorists forced to pay for the UK roads for about the 850th time over. Remember we were told the Dartford Crossing Toll would be scrapped when it had paid for the crossing? Its been paid for about 7 times now. Remember how the M6 Toll was meant to reduce congestion on the A5? It doesnt, because people dont use it, millions of pounds spent to get some more congestion on the A5.
Its nothing to do with congestion its 'how can we get the UK motorist to pay for the road once again' as the layers of Fuel Duty TAX, Vehicle Excise Duty TAX, Insurance Premium TAX, Value Added TAX, Value Added TAX on the Fuel Duty TAX , Company Car TAX, Value Added TAX on the car in the first place obviously arent enough. Add all of that to the motorists who pay £8 a day TAX to drive into London, the whatever-it-costs TAX to use the M6. Not forgetting the £60 TAX for doing 34 in a 30 with nothing for miles and now they want to impose an additional motorway TAX to be allowed to use all of the road we've already paid plenty of TAX for.
Hopefully this will be just another brainless scheme quickly discarded such as Huhne's proposal that only electric cars should be allowed to do 80mph.
We're Governed by apes.
