Peugeot 106 - 106 won't start - Battery or Alternator? 25 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Since then it chases low revs and bounces between 1000 and 2500 at idle. During the drive into work the radio kept cutting out and the rev counter and speedo kept dropping to zero before performing normally. After parking at work 40 mins later the car would not start and is completely dead, somewhat scuppering a trip North which is now underway on the train. -
How to make long commute interesting? 19 Mar 2010 (Forum)
(mostly M1 + A406) Now I'm wondering how to make the journey intersting and do something useful while I'm on car. So far I have tried listening to music but all my music collection exhausted. Tried radio channels - got bored listening same songs and same news over & over again! Tried audio books, but sometimes lost track what happens in the story while concentrating on roads. Any other ideas?? -
Ford Mondeo 1 (1993 - 1996) - 94 1.8 Stolen immobiliser remote control 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)

Iced doors on my car this morning-could not get in 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Ended up geeting in the one door that would finally open (NSR), and clambering over the drivers seat, had to remove head restraint to do so. What a spectacle, hope none of the neighbours were watching! I then heard a recommendation on Radio 2 - WD40 on the door seals would stop them freezing shut Applied generous quantities at lunchtime, and found them frozen shut again when I left work, so that was a waste of time! Car stank on the way home though None of my neighbours appear to have any problems getting in theirs - any ideas/suggestions what am I doing wrong? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 Heating issue 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am wondering if this could be the heater vavle or something else I noticed that the heater dial is pretty loose ie non responsive plus also the interior fan doesnt work only on number 4. Likewise the radio doesnt work either so wondered if they were on the same circuit or some relay. Any help appreciated -
Peugeot Boxer (2000 - 2007) - 1999 2.5 non starter 5 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Battery is fine, checked main earth cable from gearbox to wing, that's fine too. I have sidelights, but no headlights, radio works fine, etc. My first instinct was the earth cable, a common problem on these vans, but its okay. Is there another earth cable worth finding and checking. Also, whereabouts is the starter located, I cannot find it from above, do I need to take off the under tray? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 Speedo 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
For several months my speedo has been playing up; it drops to zero and occasionally mileage shows just a bunch of dashes. The radio volume lowers and there is a slight loss of power, after a about 4 miles it kicks in again and all is well. I understand this is a common fault but my local dealer says it may be the cluster or the speedo sensor, either way I am looking at a bill of around £250, can this be right? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 Electrical failures 15 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The heated rear windscreen button no longer comes on, it flicks briefly and their is a click from the central fuesbox. Oh and the radio has died. Now anyone of these things I would have thought could have been a fues. But all of them makes me a little more suspicious. It's off for a service in a week or so, but what shoudl I be looking out for as I don't want to get stung. -

Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 03 2.0 - Disabling the alarm. 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Unfortunately our toddler posted about 10 coins into the CD slot and rendered it useless. We had a new radio (non factory) fitted but since then the Alarm has been playing up at regular intervals includng today where we simply cannot lock/alarm the car. Is there a way to disable the alarm? I have looked at the fuse box diagrams, but there isn't one marked Alarm that I can see. -

Securing your car against a loan 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Securing your car against a loan and you can still use the car Heard this new type of loan on the radio today and really wondered how it works. Sorry if i is a dumb question but cant figure it out? Do they; Give you cash "payday type" loan up to value of car and you drive around in it and then hand it to them? -
Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - An expensive successor..... 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My biggest gripe so far is that a sunroof in no longer an optional extra on the 'S' or 'SE' only on the tarty, sporty 'GT' However about £17.5k seems to be what I'll need to pay, which includes metallic paint, parking sensors and a steering wheel that will enable me to control my radio!! It may be, arguably, a much better car but my goodness you have certainly got to fork out the money and this is for a car that is supposed to be cheaper to manufacture. -
Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - Spare Car 3 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The electirc windows dont work, motor, central locking locks you in the car. Tempreature gauge has a mind of its own, reads what it like when it likes. Radio seems to like to be seen but not heard, when it wishes. Exhaust sounds blown but passes its MOT every year. Key for the doors doesnt lock the doors, central locking. The car has a full service history, all but one main dealer. -
DIY bio-diesel 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I missed HJ's announcement of the relaxation of duty on this sort of fuel for personal use (http://tinyurl.com/2zutd2 ), but it came up on the radio yesterday, together with a discussion on DIY conversion kits for spent oil from chippies. What particularly amused me was the admission by HMRC that the previous arrangement was costing them more to collect than it was grossing, so it's not really generosity on their part! -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 DTi - Replacing odometer backlight bulb? 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
After I'd picked myself up from the floor at the cost (At least £60) I thought I could do it myself. I have got a workshop manual (On CD) but it syas the sterring wheel, airbag radio and complete dashboard needs to come off. Can someone please advise if this is correct or is there an easier way for a novice like me to do it myself. Thanks, TrevTheBev -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1999 TDi - clock & stereo resetting in the morning 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
VW Golf Mk3 TDi 1996-Recently when I turn the ignition on in the mornings,I noticed that the digital clock keeps resetting itself to 0:00,and the radio stations have all been lost, also its often hard to start on cold mornings and a couple of times there isnt enough power to start it and I have to use booster.Im guessing that its probably the battery thats dying,(its at least 6-7 years old)but before I shell out £50+ for a new one,is there anything else that could be causing this problem? -
Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 2005 - Electrical fault 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Today, the N/S sidelights are not working, nor the alarm (light at any rate), nor are the dashboard dial lights. The warning lights are OK, ditto the clock, radio and everything else. Before I book it into a garage, does anyone have any ideas? Could it be something as simple as a fuse? If relevant, the car's 3 years old (and has recently had a full service.......). -
Effects of electical items on your fuel economy 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Now I know that the air con compressor will increase fuel consumption but would you really notice extra fuel being used by using your heater? Lights? Rear window demister? Etc? What about using the radio? I'm not condoning any of this, just want to know if there is a gain that is measurable. I would haev thought it would haev been too small to measure. Thanks -
Dealer Delivery Costs for New Cars 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
And the reason for finding out I'd like the Mazda6 iPOD connector which is about £180 installed. Installation requires not just the removal of the radio but a lot of the centre dashboard, ashtray, gear lever gaiter etc. So I might cheekily say I'll collect the car if they give me a cheap/free iPOD connector. They're willing to think about it anyway ;-)
