  • Naming our cars 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Also, a couple of my female friends actually have names for their cars - "I went into town with Minnie..." actually means that one of them drove into town in her Nissan Micra, for example! So, anyone else have names for their vehicles, or personify them in any way?
  • Should I go for the cheapest... 10 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Nissan Primera 1.6 1995 I've been in this situation before. If something needs replacing I shop around for the best prices and then usually go with the cheapest. However, it doesn't always prove to be cheapest in the long run.
  • New-car reliability survey 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
magazine has just arrived, with a new-car reliability survey indicating that the top group is almost exclusively Japanese and "Mercedes-Benz has dropped further than any other manufacturer this year" to the third (average) of the four groups. BEST: Honda, Hyundai, Lexus, Mazda, Nissan, Smart, Toyota GOOD: Daihatsu, Ford, Suzuki AVERAGE: Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daewoo, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Proton, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Subaru POOR: Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Fiat, Land Rover, MG, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, Vauxhall, VW, Volvo
  • 200SX or 328 Sport 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
After much deliberation, I've finally managed to whittle down the wishlist of motors to two possibles...a Nissan 200SX or a BMW 328 Sport. It looks like I'll get more motor for my £££s with the 200, but I'll also lose more (probably) when I sell it as the 328 Sport seems to hold its value really well. I've driven both of them and there doesn't seem to be too much difference, although the 200 does tend to fishtail in the wet :p They both seem to be generally reliable if maintained, but the BM's M52 problem is a bit of a worry.
  • Car for 300-800 pounds 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It also got to be Japanese (for reliability, build and finishing and fuel efficiency) I suggested to get the newest Primera 1.6 LX or Carina 1.6 GLi he can afford. Is there any other choice? Can our budget stretch to a Nissan Almera? Cheers Garrison
  • K11 Micra -- Handbrake warning light 5 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Nissan Micra K11 -- N reg 1.0L. An intermittent fault. The "handbrake warning" light often comes on in mid journey. [Exclamation mark in a red circle.] Just driving over a pothole can make it come on -- or when I brake at the bottom of a steep hill 1 mile after starting up in the morning
  • Mazda 323 2.0 V6 (94-98) 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Dear all, Can everyone comments on this car's abilities? I will mean use it for short journeys around Cambridge and rallying. My Nissan QX will be reserved for long trips (weekend Cambridge <-> London as girlfriend lives there) or when I need to carry family or carry more than four around. Or should I sell my QX and have the 323 as my sole transport?
  • Installaing a Centre 3-point seatbelt 4 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Can anyone advise or recommend the best way to get a centre 3 point belt installed in a 1990 Nissan Primera? Due to the imminent arrival of a baby - I am trying to fit 3 children in the back of my Primera. I have been told that it is not possible to fit a central inertia reel belt because of the lack of a decent fitting point.
  • Renault Espace 1 Mar 2001 (Forum)
the better model of a s/h Espace to suit a potential buyer who was short on funds. My ageing Nissan Prairie will have to go soon and I fancy an Espace, preferably diesel, possibly with auto transmission. Funds are limited to around £5000. Was the 2.1 litre diesel produced in auto form ? High mileage is no objection but, if I stayed with petrol, how thirsty is the Vee 6 model compared to the inline four ?
  • Toyota Townace 3 Feb 2001 (Forum)
However, my insurance company won't consider this type of vehicle when I have to soon change my splendid (145,000 mile) MK1 Nissan Prairie. Also, there are dealers supplying MK2 Prairies from Japan, also with excellent specs. Do the advantages outway the disadvantages with this type of vehicle ? Could anyone who owns such a vehicle, give me their thoughts.
  • Nissan X-Trail 2.2Di Sport - Intermittent Power Loss / Surges - Fuel air leak?? 31 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I replaced the fuel filter the other month on my 2003/53 2.2 Di Sport Diesel X-Trail and since then I have not been able to obtain the consistent performance I had previously. Genuine Nissan filter was used. Whilst the engine always starts first time and idles smoothly, intermittently and when under load, i.e. accelerating up hill or towing, it will loose power in 3rd or 4th gear requiring a premature change down to 2nd in order to maintain progress.
  • Bought another cheapie. 8 Jul 2025 (Forum)
I was limited in scope by the budget of £2,000, a need for low insurance, enough space for elderly parent plus walker frame, reliability and minimal cost overall. I shortlisted the Honda Jazz, Ford Fusion and Nissan Note as front runners but began searching with an open mind. I looked at several examples of each, all in relatively good unabused condition as per the norm for these pensioner favourites and today bought a very tidy post facelift 59 plate Nissan Note 1.4 Visa in bright (surprisingly unfaded) red with 85000 miles up, complete with a full service history from a local trader I’m familiar with.
  • Peace of change 24 May 2023 (Forum)
I’ve never bought a car unseen before (I still haven’t, it’s all hers) but it wasn’t possible to ignore as it was almost £3,000 cheaper than the local Nissan dealer for a near identical car. So cheap I’m a bit suspicious. I’ll see what it’s like when it turns up on Monday. I wager that I’ll still have old Terrance the Toyota long after the Leaf is history.
  • Peugeot 3008 - Buying a crossover but which one 7 Nov 2015 (Forum)
A close friend of mine suggested I should go for reliable brands like Honda, Hyundai, KIA or Nissan. I should buy a used car from a dealer with low milage.  So my questions is what is my best option? My budget is GBP 15000. I would love to have a Nissan Qashqai but only manual is available in that budget.

  • How hard is is to buy a new car? 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This was a large dealer with a national network of dealerships. I think I may be talking to the other Nissan dealer in my area, a small independent, surely things can't go as badly?
  • Modern car gearboxes 25 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I haven't driven a newer PSA car, but the older ones had very little spring in them and the gearshift felt floppy and badly weighted. Renaults (and newer Nissans) are just plain sloppy -- gearstick just flopping around when you're driving. VWs are the reverse -- slow, and clunky, but at least they feel as if they're built to last. Probably aren't but that's the feeling you get.
  • Electrical wiring question-Lights 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Please advise. Nissan Almera 2002: The front fog/driving light glass has smashed, Nissan want £80 for the full unit which I'm loathed to pay, so off I went to Halfords and found a set of fog lights, 55w halogen bulbs with 2 LED's in both lights for only £30, so I'm thinking brilliant.
