  • Startup technique: priming injectors 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
P-reg Nissan Almeira. What's the correct technique for starting these "new-fangled" fuel injection cars? (I have previously driven carburettor cars). When I start up in the morning, I first turn the ignition half on for a couple of seconds. You can physically hear the fuel pump start up and send fuel to the front to "prime" the injectors.

  • '96 Fiesta diesel fuel pump 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'd had trouble starting my car but now it won't start at all. We've changed the fuel filter and glow plugs but it still won't start as the diesel isn't getting thru'. (almost did with lots of WD40 sprayed on it) My friendly mechanic says that it is most likely the fuel pump and says it will need to get to a Ford dealer to repair.
  • Another VW Sharan Misfire 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My 1999 VW Sharan 110 bhp TDi (red i) has a misfire ('coughs' on acceleration). So far I have replaced/had tested the airmass meter; new injectors; new fuel filter; new battery; have had dismantled and tested the diesel fuel pump and as a last resort changed the fuel provider and used a fuel additive (the last being a suggestion of Honest John's). I am loathe to part with the car as it goes well otherwise - is there anything left for me to try or will I be coughing all the way to the dealer via the bank for a replacement?

  • BMW 320D Injection Fuel Pump 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
My question\'s are: Is there a known fuel pump problem, would a faulty pump cause others problems or could the damage parts be caused my incorrect fitting of new pump? Thanks
  • Vectra Di air problems 3 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone help with this problem please? Poor starting led me to suspect air in the fuel, replaced a section of pipe with clear fuel line and added a rubber priming bulb for good measure. Also replaced the fuel filter housing. The problem persists and I can now see globs of air running to the fuel pump, even bigger ones when ever I squeeze the priming bulb.
  • 307 90 HDI fuel consumption 27 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone comment on the fuel consumption of the Peugeot 307 HDI (90). I've done 6000 miles in mine and can't get above 45mpg. I do mainly A road/ motorway journeys outside of the rush hours, so I'm in 5th gear most of the time.
  • Audi fuel pump update 12 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I had a good look at the Audi this morning (see earlier thread). This model (1991 Coupe 20V) has a single fuel pump submerged in the tank. Access is by unbolting the protective plate on top of the tank (under the boot carpet) and removing the fuel gauge sender unit. On removing the pump I found the sump underneath was full of rubbish.

  • Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - 200tdi cutting out 18 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I've got a Defender 200tdi and she runs like a dream for 100 miles of so then get lumpy and underpowered for a few seconds and cuts out. Looks like it's some kind of fuel issue as if I remove the fuel filter and turn the ignition over fuel comes through - if I then empty the filter and replace it works fine again for 100 miles of so. Full power when going and no visible signs of anything untoward.

  • 2003 Ford Focus 1.8 - Fuel pump issues 10 Apr 2016 (Forum)
It had worked perfectly on the test drive and passed its MOT fine.  However, when collecting it, it initially would not start. Turned out to be the fuel pump fuse which had blown (called out the AA) - possibly because the fuel level had got so low. The AA seemed to think this was a common/minor problem and gave me a spare fuse. The fuse blew again this afternoon after at least two hours of intermittent driving - stopped and started several times no problem.

  • Any - Energy Density/MPG of Road Fuels 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I have seen 35% jet fuel in winter diesel blends and as jet fuel has less energy per litre than diesel, you get (slightly) lower mpg. Also you can see that (one of the many reasons) diesel cars go further on a litre is that there is more energy in a litre of diesel than a litre of gasoline (petrol).
  • kangoo van 1.5 dci - fuel flow actuator 5 Sep 2011 (Forum)
hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction. i've been told by the rac that i have fuel flow actuator fault. that's their code reading. there is no click from the fuel injection pump but there is one from the relay. i was hoping to fit one myself but i have no idea where it is on the fuel pump. i have a brown plastic electrical connection going to a metallic cylinder on the end of the pump with a flange in the shape of a butterfly that connects it to the pump and a green electrical connection going to a smaller brass bolt on the end of the pump. i thought i might just be able to recognise it but when i google the part it looks nothing like anything that i can see - it's more of a valve looking object with two wires coming from it. is it likely this would just fail. it just didn't start one morning...
