  • Autoaid Breakdown Service 18 Aug 2009 (Forum)
However on reading the Autoaid wording, and phoning them to confirm, it would appear that this £37 covers the policyholder AND their spouse in whatever cars they drive!! (Interestingly one of the criteria is that the car must have a spare tyre!). OK I know its an insurance policy rather than staright forward breakdown cover, but £37 to take away the hassle involved in a breakdown for 2 different cars (or people in reality) is a great deal.
  • Mitsubishi Carisma (1995 - 2004) - 2004 1.9 DI-D Plastic engine undertray removal. 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The oil filter is easily accessable at the front of the engine. I can guess where the sump is, but it is covered in a large plastic cover underneath the car. There are two pairs of bolts underneath the front bumper on the left and right side. My question is: how can i get this cover off? I'm hoping someone has done a service on this make of car and can help me or i'll have to throw in the towel and take it to the garage.

  • Renault Laguna 2002 Import 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know how much warranty you have with a 2002 model Renault Laguna? It was not from an official Renault franchise but bought from Ian Shipton Cars in Burton-on-Trent. There is no warranty claim issue as such, it just came up in a conversation as to whether the car has just 12 months cover or 24 months cover. Does anyone have any idea?
  • Breakdown cover 1 mile scam? 9 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Just shopping round for breakdown cover now, i notice most of them include a clause that you're not covered within 1 mile of your home address.... what's that all about and why are people ok with that? I don't want to pay extra for home start, because i'm not bothered about home start.
  • VW dealer "Swindle" 30 May 2001 (Forum)
The car had only covered 30 000 miles yet I was told I needed loads of work on the front suspension, bushes etc. Eventually the garage agreed to carry out the work at no cost to myself, however I would hate to think that they would have overlooked this had they known they would be covering the cost............
  • BMW X5 - Car Insurance - UK cover is a bargain! 2 May 2022 (Forum)
Police turn up and announce the truck driver was insured. Turns out in Texas you take out cover for 3rd party damage, death & injuries your car, medical expenses for your car occupants, death, injuries and medical care in 3rd party cars............ the more boxes you tick the premiums rise.

  • Jaguar X-Type 2004 175k - Fracked in France - Breakdown Cover Update 8 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Last year I paid £75 for breakdown cover. I shudder to think what that episode in France cost them. Today, I had a renewal notice. £73.95 including European cover. I have, of course, renewed it immediately, with gratitude and with fulsome praise.
  • MINI Cooper + Cooper S - Damage cause by loose drain cover 11 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Recently at a Tesco service station, where we drove over a drain cover which flipped up and damaged the car. There was no warnings in place or signs & couldnt be avoided, as it is the exit to the station.... it appears to just come loose and damaged the side mouldings & rear bumper.
  • Breakdown Service for driver fault 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
She was not covered under the breakdown service.  Although, her breakdown company was n't the AA, but some us do remember adverts such as these:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dBOo00L1fk Have breakdown companies reduced their cover or were driver faults never covered?
  • covering up numberplates 23 Sep 2014 (Forum)
And there was some question about whether a Traffic Warden was not legally allowed to tamper with the covering, and therefore couldn't write out a ticket. I just wondered whether the 'not legally allowed' bit was/is actually true. And is it the law that your numberplate must be visible/readable when in a Council Car Park (for argument's sake let's say it doesn't use entry and exit cameras) ?

  • FIAT 500X - Exporting a car; what type of insurance does the DVLA need? 3 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Two potential solutions; 1) short term insurance policy to cover me while in UK- is it really true this won't count as insurance? What if I ring DVLA and explain car is being exported? 2) My uncle who lives over here adds the car to his existing policy for his own car and is covered on it up until the day my Irish insurance kicks in and I drive it back?
  • When is a car run in? 22 Aug 2008 (Forum)
From time to time someone writes in to HJ in the paper and says "I've got a Merc 123 which has covered 275,000 miles." And HJ sometimes replies (words to the effect of ) "that's only just run in. There's a bloke in New Milliband, Texas whose Merc 123 has covered 350,000 miles." So when is an ordinary car run in?
