• Hyundai ix20 - What cars will take a 44ins wide load? 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Then I tried the Ford Galymax and they're 45ins plus. Great! Until I read about the Power shift issues. I'd be buying older than 3 years and the thought of no warranty and a dodgy auto box is scary. So back to our Kia dealer who phoned me back after a mosey round his showroom with a tape measure.
• Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 09 2.2TDCi engine problems 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
On the second visit, they told me the fan noise after switch off was the EGR valve, but couldn't explain the smoke. Have recently put a full tank of Shell V-Power into it, should it be a supermarket fuel issue with the EGR. As this engine isn't just limited to Mondeos, has anyone got any ideas on what to do next? Many thanks!
• Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - Impressions 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Perhaps justifies a new thread from the man v auto one: Drove a 3.0 Sport manual today. Nice crisp V6, the chassis felt firm but absorbed ruts and bumps well, the steering was weighted much like the Mondeo, didn't hoon around so cant really comment on handling though it was surefooted and responsive enough.
• Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1.8 Zetec 2002, Petrol, Manual, Engine cut out 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
First time I took it to ford for a diagnostic but nothing came up. The car idles fine, accelerates fine. The only other v small quirk is that sometimes it won't start up on first turn of the key when the engine is warm (say if I have used car and gone back to use again after 20 mins or so) - but usually starts on the 2nd attempt.
• Fuel Filter on Back to Front! - Cavalier 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Have had a \'95 16V Cavalier for 6 months that has on the whole been fine. Had some problems with air flow sensor (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=i&t=13656), but this has not stopped it being a reliable (on the whole!), economical (40mpg) mile muncher. This last week, the \'stuttering\' returned, this time on a trailing throttle, and it took a minute or two of pumping for the power to return.
• 2004 Pontiac GTO - Motor Trend review 7 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Surprise #5: Although it'll happily melt its rear BFGoodriches into rubber pudding (a standard traction-control system will step in to save your tires unless you switch it off), the GTO runs not like a shuddering, rackety musclecar, but like a sophisticated executive's express. The muscle is certainly there: Under the hood lies the same 5.7-liter LS1 V-8 that powers some Chevrolet Corvettes; in the GTO, it delivers a studly 350 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 365 pound-feet of torque at 4000. Coupled to the optional ($695) Tremec six-speed manual transmission (an electronically controlled four-speed automatic is standard), the Vette V-8 kicks the GTO with inspiring swiftness.
• Ford Fiesta 1999 V-reg 1.25 Zetec-SE - Running & idling problems, DTC codes - help please 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hello everyone My 1999 V-reg Fiesta has been suffering from the dreaded idling & running problems and I've been following the usual advice. It sometimes tries stalling when approaching junctions, it seems the engine is trying to kep the revs up and is sometimes kangarooing when trying to change down through the gears to second while slowly coming to a halt.
• Toyota Carina E - How to keep a 15yr old car running 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Is there any way to fix boot struts, i put wd40 then grease on, helped a bit Is there any benefit to giving it a tank of Shell v-power / fuel save and taking it up the rev range, i doubt my grandfather got above 3000rpm and i know the engine mode changes at 4400rpm?  Could i replace front window motor with one from the rear?
• Superfuels don't equal super savings? 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
s former senior research engineer, Peter de Nayer. In these tests, high-octane premium fuels including BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power, Esso Supreme and Total Excellium performed little or no better than their cheaper equivalents, in spite of costing around 7% more per litre. ?Our tests show that premium fuels are an unnecessary expense with no major fuel economy benefit?
• Emotion vs. logic once again 7 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The legendary lack of will-power in this family regarding things automotive with very large engines threatens another assault on the biscuit tin under the mattress in the form of a stable-mate for the Growlette's red '66 Mustang rag-top owned these last 11 years.
• Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 1.9TDi 136k miles, 2nd interim report 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Those regulars with good memories may remember my report of the first 90k miles in my Mk5 Golf 1.9Tdi, which had been almost trouble free: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=58085&v=f Well, it's now done 136k so I thought I post an update; as you will see, there has been a bit more to report, Good, Bad and Ugly... The Ugly: At 103k, whilst trundling along on a Sunday afternoon on a downhill section of the M4 at an indicated 70mph, I became aware that there was no longer any power ?
• Toyota Yaris 1.5 - 10,000 miles on 1 Dec 2019 (Forum)
This problem was intermittent. Seemed to be less of a problem when running on Shell V power and it didn’t like supermarket fuels. Never had a car before which ran noticeably better on one fuel that another. Had to take my time changing from 1st to 2nd gear to prevent crunching.
• Mitsubishi Shogun 2008 SWB Diesel - Shogun Missbehaving 12 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Sometimes it repeats the stuttering when started, but generally 2nd time around she starts normally as if nothing has happened and proceeds to act normal to my journeys end and on the return leg I recently filled her up with V power, allthough I am not saying this was the cause as on the next fill-ups I used any diesel. What astounds me is that I have done several long journeys with no sign of the symptoms at all, # I have just had her checked by a Service dealer and he reported that the memory had stored a steering fault which was cleared ,but could find nothing else wrong.
• Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 Alternator Problems? 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, I bought my car last year, Ford focus 1.8 zetec V plate and everything was well until one day i lost all power, all lights went off, engine stopped so i called AA out and they said alternator had gone. I took it to a garage and got a new one in and everything seemed well, seemed been the right word.
• Classics for everday use 23 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I wonder what view there are out there about the worth of beating depreciation, avoiding road tax, driving something interesting instead of a lookalike box like everboy else's, by using an old (classic) car as a daily driver. I have owned a 6 rag-top Ford Mustang V-8 for more than 20 years, originally bought in Florida. It has aircon and power everything, goes as fast as anything else on the road, stops just as quick, looks great and turns head, has a great exhaust note.
• Ford Focus - 55 reg Focus 1.8 TDCi white smoke when cold 27 Mar 2020 (Forum)
As an example, the smoke looks a little like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsWW_ZsvNJw but not like the ones that are as if a disco fog machine was strapped to the back! So, basically, any ideas, or is this normal? Thanks in advance
• 406HDI 2.2 poor pulling? 25 Feb 2006 (Forum)
f=4&t=39191 Rather than go into colossal detail at this stage I am comparing it with my recollection of my older V plate 110BHP model. I don't think the newer one is as smooth, pulls from as far down or for that matter shows much evidence of the extra 26BHP. The 'in & out' power delivery reminds quite a lot of my even older 205 Turbodiesel.
• Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.8 EM light/ECU? 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
About 3 months ago it started with the EM light coming on permanently followed by all the loss of power/cutting out and using far too much fuel. I took it to my mechanic friend, had it read and replaced the mass air and the lambda(?) Sensors. Immediately after this it ran without power fade or cutting out, but he couldn?

• Ford Focus Estate 1.6 petrol 55 reg - battery drain /isolator 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
as it was intermittent and i had no idea when the battery would discharge, again totally frustrating at o.4.40 am when i left the house for work and the battery was totally flat - anyway cut a long story short on the advice of my garage/auto electician decieded to have a promax 12 v isolator fitted and it was explained that this would work if the isolator sensed a drain via the battery it would shut down everything, preserving enough power in the battery to restart the car - i know the isolator works as i have experienced drain on 3 or 4 occasions since having fitted and never failed UNTIL the a couple of days ago, a recent cold snap with tempratures down to +1 - -3 degrees, went to the car as normal tried to open with fob but nothing, opened with key as i could see that isolator had kicked in - nothing at all on dash display, no concerns at this point, expexting isolator to kick back in, when turning the ignition key as normal - but nothing at all, had to jump off the wifes audi, it was only then that the isolator kciked back in and it started first time - now not taking any chances due to early start, and disconnecting the positive termial after 14 mile journey, but have tested the isolator since and hey presto works fine after each 14 mile journey   advice appreciated
