Focus Clock 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The LED display was not showing the hour figure correctly. I refused to pay the £60 odd pounds for a new one from Ford so got one from a car transplants place. It was all done over the phone and cost just under £20. Well everything was working perfectly when it was fitted but a couple of days later it all went funny. No it wasn't funny it was worse than my old one which was now in the bin. -
Yaris Exhaust 30 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I also suspect I'm likely to be about 3 months late as I doubt it'd be covered by an extended (manufacturers equivalent) warranty. (I didn't need to get the exhaust done at all on my old Tipo and it seemed OK to look at even after I'd had the car about 2.5 years, so I don't really know how long an exhaust should last) -
Why don't I just do it? 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
The saliva was running down my old jumper as I read all the threads under 'old cheap + fast'. I go back to the last one - the only time you lucky young lads on here will see a Wolseley 6/110 is on 1960s police black and white films. -
Cheapo Cars (Again) - The Philosophy 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Unfortunately I had to reject the car (old corrosion on roof) and the case went to the Financial Ombudsman. Ultimately, in late September 2020 I 'won' - the finance company (LBG) paid me my deposit (+ 8% interest), my monthly payments less one (to cover the 900 miles I'd driven the car) and £75 for 'biggeration'. -
Third Driving Ban for 13 Year Old 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I don't want to have to delete this thread. Thanks in advance Hugo - BR Moderator "A 13-year-old who became one of the youngest drink-drivers in the UK was given a four month custodial sentence yesterday after driving a stolen car at 70mph without lights in a 30mph residential area. Jon Smee, of Salford, who at 4ft 10in tall can barely reach the steering wheel of a car , was caught by police after he lost control of a Ford Mondeo at a roundabout near Manchester centre in November. -
Buying my Second(ish) Car - Medium Hatchback 10 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi there everybody, I would like a little advice from actual car owners who could provide me with useful and practical advice for my new car purchase. I've now been without a car for 2 years (my previous cars were R and X reg Ford Fiesta's, so small cheap and practical runabouts for my first car), but now is the time for me to buy one again. -
Family car for a horsey type 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi We need a new family car We are a one car family so it must be a do-it-all Since we bought the last one we have acquired 2 kids and a horse The main driver is a keen petrolhead The rest of the family just want something comfortable to potter around town and go away for the weekend in The complicating factor is that it now needs to be able to tow as well as traverse a steep muddy rutted rocky farmyard on a regular basis, this is currently destroying our present car Im at a loss as to what will fit the bill An Audi Allroad seems obvious but until this month they fail miserably on CO2 emmissions and hence VED I want a 6-18 month old car to lessen the depreciation shocker It will be kept for several years so after I buy it Im not massively worried about further losses On the other hand it must be reliable (bye bye Disco3) because as its our only car we just cant have it laid up for days on end when it breaks down Budget flexible 30k should buy most things I can think of at 18 months old The Audi is the safe option if a little dull A stonking V8 (petrol or diesel) will sort my midlife crisis even if its a 4x4 - I dont care about VED or running costs if its 'cheap' to start with as it will be kept for years And a knackered Defender and an A6 wagon etc is an option we have considered but we really only want one car :) Any ideas - Im spoiled for choice in the current market Anything to a 65k Merc GL or a RR can be had for a stupendous discount at the age Im looking at, the thing with the RR would have to be reliability...... -
A tear in my eye - a sale is made. 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
A deal is struck, he pays (cash - which I check VERY carefully), and away goes the car. It was the most surreal car transaction I have ever had! If I'd been a dodgy dealer, I could have sold him any old junk (my Celica was probably the best, standard UK car available - am I modest or what?) -
Main Dealer Going Bust Costs Me? 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Just under 2 years ago, I purchased a used Honda Civic from a main dealer, the car being then only about 6 months old and is now still under warranty. Because the car was for my wife to ferry children about, I asked the dealer if he was sure that the car hadn't had any accidents, which he assured me it hadn't. -
Pierburg carb probs 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I looked at the pin on the new and old waxstat, and the pin on the new stat is 1cm from its base when cold, whereas the pin on the old one is only 3mm from its base. When I spoke to VWs and asked them if waxstats are ever faulty new, they said that in order to return the part, I would have to book the car in for an hours labour (GBP 88)!! -
V70 T5 petrol - Cold start problem 31 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Settles down after a minute or two and then runs fine. I have tried Redex fuel system cleaning additive but no improvement. The car is 15 years old with 95K miles on the clock. Suggestions please. -
Peugeot 5008 - Sub frame damage 12 Sep 2017 (Forum)
If MOT History is advising 'front subframe damage both sides but not seriously weakened', does it need to be repaired or is it likely to be old damage... -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 29-07-2017 Part 1 19 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Im sorry but I find many of the questions asked on these pages banal; I mean someone paid £300 for a 16 year old car with 225,000 miles on the clock and thinks he's entitled to money back if the garage px value was less than this? Seriously? -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 12-08-2017 Part 1 14 Aug 2017 (Forum)
LOL, Ive an 11 year old car that I didnt notice years ago had a roof paint issue or at least if I did notice, I ddnt care about until this year. Who can I sue? Hmmm, let me think...... -
Peugeot 5008 - 54K with no Service History, should I avoid? 28 Oct 2016 (Forum)
So I've seen a 5 year old 5008 for under £8k and 54k miles but it has no accompanying service history. It's had a dent to the rear passenger door... -
Ford Fiesta 1.0 litre - Reverse gear difficulty in selecting 19 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Our car is just over 2 months old having bought from new. At times it will not go into reverse gear, baulks. Difference between in gear and not is so slight it often results in grating. Has anyone else noticed this. -
Hyundai i40 - High mileage Hyundai 26 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I've spotted a 2011 i40 with 82,000 miles. What are peoples thoughts on such a car given Hyundai's 5 year unlimited miles warranty? Currently it's averaged 28000 miles a year, we only do 6000, so at 6 years old that average would be down to 16000 a year. And the poor thing deserves a rest LOL. -
Skoda Estelle - Disc pad cross reference 31 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I've a set of old, unused, Ferodo disc pads for a late Estelle. Any idea where I can find a cross reference list to see what other cars they'll fit. They're no use to me but someone might find them useful. I thought I'd put them on freecycle. -
Current scrap values? 24 May 2013 (Forum)
Just wondering if Backroomers have any ideas on the current scrap value of cars, what with the price of metals going up. Could we expect to get anything for the old Fiesta that we intend scrapping at the end of the month - or should we just be grateful that someone will get rid of it for us? -
Ford Focus TDCI 2009. 1800 - Diesel 'flatspot?' 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Garage computer shows no codes and they do not know the cause. Bit like a petrol engine flatspot you used to get on old cars. Starts ok and no oither problems. Engine done 38k miles.
