Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 99 1.3 Poor spark on 2 cylinders 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My KA lost power a few weeks ago and started running on 2 cylinders. Had the usual spark plug problem (now resolved) and have changed the spark plugs, leads and coil pack but I am still getting a poor spark on 1 and 4 whilst 2 and 3 are fine - which seems to imply the coil pack but I have changed that again to another brand new one and I still get the same problem. -
Parking on a very steep driveway 10 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Or should I leave it in gear, release the clutch to let the engine take the strain, and then apply the handbrake as a backup? Will parking in gear lead to additional wear on the engine? Thanks in advance! -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W211 (2002 - 2009) - 07 2.2 damage to wiring harness in engine bay 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Failure of wiring harness in engine compartment leading to shorting and failure of Fuse 57. Root cause was the wiring harness rubbing against one of the engine compartment insulation fixing screws spot welded to the bulkhead and abrading the insulation of the engine control unit wire until it shorted. -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0D Is there a HDi problems FAQ? 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
(Certainly not "take it to the dealer and expect the fault code reader to work on a 9 year old car" :o)) Any leads, or input, gratefully received. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1993 1.6 Would like to get this car to 200k 26 May 2008 (Forum)
It judders when I pull off, and sounds uneven when idling, feels like it's not firing properly. I've ckecked the leads are on ok and it shouldn't be damp as it's roasting for a change. The problem receeds after i've been driving for a while?? Could something just have been knocked during MOT?? Would appreciate any ideas with much gratitude. -

Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - Want an Audi A4 - But when? 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Back in july i treated myself to a 2004 Audi A3 TDI Sport for my 70 mile commute to and from work everday... Mileage is now just over 50k and before it gets stupidly high i want a change... Leading to my next choice, a facelifted version of the A4 2.0 TDI S-Line! I really like the car but i know there is a new model out soon. I'm unsure whether to wait and see what kind of price difference there is once that hits the market. -
Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 1995 2.0 16v - hesitating- no power 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The engine never actually stalls but sometimes idles a bit slow before it plays up. Recently i have replaced spark plugs, leads and coil pack which has made it slighty better but not got rid of the problem. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jaime -

Bed of nails 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
On my way to work I drive past a house on a country lane that has a short piece of driveway before a gate which then leads up to the house. On this small piece of driveway they have what appears to be a piece of plywood about 6 foot square and full of what looks like 6 inch nails. I assume that they have put this there to stop yobs parking on their driveway at night. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1.9TD 'Water in fuel' warning light 13 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I've drained the fuel filter- to no avail and yesterday I changed the fuel filter- again to no avail. The car starts fine and performance is still good, as is the fuel economy, which leads me to believe that it's likely to be a simple electrical fault. As the car is 13 years old and with 203k on the clock, I'm not worried in any way, but i just wonder if any other proud 306TD owners have experienced the same problem? -
Is it worth getting rid of rust? 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It has various other scratches and dings that I'm not too bothered about but the rust bubbles concern me as they are slowly spreading round the wheel arch. Do I need to get this sorted - ie, will it lead to MOT failure down the line? Is there a cheaper way of sorting it that will prevent the rust coming back? Thanks in advance for any advice. Pete -
Carelessness 22 May 2007 (Forum)
The mild form of insanity induced by this dabbling in the virtual world, a sort of false omnipotence, often leads one to write things one later wishes one had not written. It is particularly galling when those things appear in a thread which is then closed. It's easy to misunderstand things. It's easy to overreact. -
Ford Explorer LPG misfire on petrol 16 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Recently I bought a 2000 model Ford Explorer converted to run on LPG (dual-fuel - Romano system; no idea whether it's fully sequential or not) When running on LPG, it runs lovely and smooth, but when I switch to petrol (it needs to start up on petrol, then switches over) it runs with the most appalling misfire. It's currently back in the Garage where, they reckon, it needs new plugs/HT leads. I don't quite understand this because it works fine on LPG, which uses the exact-same igniton system. Of course, if it comes out of the garage working fine, then that's ok, but any ideas may be appreciated in case this becomes a recurring problem. -
VW Golf Mk3 GTI 96 power problem 13 May 2006 (Forum)
The car was running really poor and I have now completed the following: Service including new plugs/leads. New crank shaft sensor. New exhust complete including cat. Timming checked and all comprestion test which came back ok. Although the car is running a lot better than it was, I still have a lack of power. -
New Toyota Yaris-Starting 1 May 2006 (Forum)
I complained to Toyota and asked for authority to have this inhibitor deactivated as I contend that this puts a load on the crankshaft thrust bearings when there is no pressured oil present and would lead to rapid wear of the washers. In their reply they justified this device from the safety angle, and stated that although deactivation this wouldn't invalidate the warranty itself, subsequent failure that involved the systems around starting could result in its invalidation. -
recall or service bulletin 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I know find out that Nisan new they had a cam chain guide mounting problem, the mounting bolt holes are failing and this leads to either catastrophic failure or the chain guide prematurly wearing out. Nissan have issued a service bulletin re this failure but this information is not made public!!!. It seems recalls are now only issued for safety critical problems not premature failure.iI know there is an AA dite where safety recals are posted ss there a similar web site where service bulletins are posted. -
306 emissions (overfueling?) 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
For the MOT ive just changed the Lambda sensor and Cat and its recently had a new coil pack, air filter and plugs and leads. The exhaust doesnt seem to have any leaks and my mechanic has cleaned off all the sensors. During the test it needs to be revved a bit to get the co2 level down but after it does fine on the fast idle test. -

Escort 1994 1.6 16v 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
i have recentley rebuilt my zetec but also with piper cams & flowing and porting and an fse power boost valve i also have had the ecu reflashed to match the mods but its a pain to start, idles irractically, and has a bad misfire after you rev it up misses on way back down to idle speed ive had the timing done abut 3 times its got new plugs gapped at 1mm, new leads, new earths, new mass air meter, new lamda sensor and new engine sensors but it still has the same problem any ideas cos its cost me a small fortune but its currently running at 160 brake with 140 torque so when it runs ok it will be well worth it ps it still does 30 to the gallon
