  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 06 1.4 Intermittent Brake Lights 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The brake lights on my wife?s Peugeot 307 (06 registration) are only intermittently coming on. I have bought new bulbs and installed them, I have checked the bulbs in the brake light strip at the top of the hatchback and they are all working.
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 2007 1.8 - Spongy brakes 20 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've tested an emergency stop and it seems to be okay. Brake fluid level is where it should be. I'll be bringing the car back to be checked out next week but I wonder if this is a characteristic of the Avensis. For such a big and almost new car I would expect excellent braking power.
  • Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 01 1.6 Squeaking sound from front brake 10 May 2008 (Forum)
Just got the car back from service & MOT. The mechanic suspect it might have something to do with brake disc being distorted perhaps? He hasn't fixed it as he couldn't work out why after checked and polished brake pad etc.. What else? It passed MOT as it worked perfectly then! The mechanic works from his back garden workshop, but has been really good all along.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2002 2.0TDCi 130 Estate Rear Disc Brake Banjo Size 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I rang Goodridge to check on the fitment and they say i have the right one. I haven't really bought the hoses to improve brake effectiveness as the brakes are spot on but i'm planning on renewing the brake lines and thought that i'd do the hoses at the same time. Does anyone know the (thread size and pitch)for the banjo bolts that i need off hand.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - (98-04) Cracking appearing on Front Brake Pads 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Just had a service on my car. The dealer has advised that the Front Brake Pads have become cracked, the discs are showing a blue streak and should be replaced. The pads and discs where previously installed by Ford and i have done 5000 miles on them. Ford have advised that this could be down to overheating, they also blamed alloys for allowing water to get onto the brakes causing the pads to cool down quicker and forcing the pads to become brittle.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Leaking brake servo hose 1.4 petrol 25 Nov 2007 (Forum)
First can this section be replaced on its own or does the complete hose connection from the inlet manifold to the brake servo need to be completely replaced. Second leaving aside the issue of safety which I fully appreciate would a slight vacuum leak make the engine run rich. Before anyone replies I fully appreciate brake safety issues.
  • Audi - A4 New Disc/Calliper/Pads now noisy. 10 Oct 2007 (Forum)
We have an Audi A4 which had new calliper discs and pads fitted in April 07. Since then, we've done 1500 miles, which should be plenty to bed in the new brakes. However they still make a squeaking/whining noise and the brake warning light comes on intermittently. We've taken it back to the place it was serviced at twice now, and they've sprayed the brakes with silicon, and say they can't find any other problems.
  • Ford Focus collapsed brake pads 3 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Just had a scary experience in my 2002 Focus TDDI. I came up at lowish speed to a T junction and pressing the brake pedal only resulted in a crunch, and lots of grinding noises. Limped the car home, stripped the brakes down to find one pad on one side had completely lost its friction material! Now, I regularly service (over-service generally!)
  • Mondeo Servicing and brakes 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
air filter? im not to sure these days. Then I asked them to quote me to change my front and rear brake pads, £167.36. I thought that was bit steep? Used to have my clios brakes done £35 for front and £40 rear at kwik-fit or £22 in total if I did them myself. I know at Ford all the parts will top notch own brand but do you think thats a bit steep?
  • Peugeot 205 Gentry - Rear Drums 20 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I recently upgraded my discs and pads from standard to EBC Turbo Groove discs and Greenstuff pads. The change has gone well and as the brakes are bedding in, the braking is improving - with little or no brake dust. Thanks to those who contributed! Now, I am looking to tackle the rear brakes, which are drums/shoes set up. I have never owned a car with drums/shoes on the rear so this is a novelty for me!
  • Renault Clio Bloss of brake servo 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, but would like some assitance with a problem I have with my Renault Clio 1994 RL diesel 1.9. I have no servo assisted braking which makes braking very heavy indeed at low speed. However, when I was on the motorway yesterday at high speed the brakes were very sharp so the power assistance seemed to be working ok. I've checked back through the cars history and found a couple of receipts that show that it has had this problem previously.
  • Mini Brakes bleeding procedure 20 May 2001 (Forum)
I own a 1989 F reg Mini mayfair with servo assisted brakes, i just wondered what the procedure is for bleeding the brakes, the front are disc and the rear are drums. Is my car on a split system and if so which will it be, diagonal or front and rear. Also, just how do i go about bleeding them, please tell, i am new to all this and although the old haynes manula is helpful it doesnt tell me everything i need to know.
  • Ceed ED - Brake pads jammed 30 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Will this potentially cause the friction material to detach from the metal backing, compromising the brake pads?
  • 2009 renault twingo 1.2 dynamique - problem with front brakes 1 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Big trouble with car, bought it a few months ago,had to fit new struts and springs ,then onto front brakes, binding bad on front left,so decided to fit new calipers and discs, and pads on both sides, but now brakes are binding badly,it is vented discs on it,but for some strange reason, cant fit the long pins which calipers slide on,can only fit short ones, and every body says short ones are for solid discs, help driving me nuts, even fitted new caliper carriers but still the same.
  • Ford Fiesta - Brake pedal feel changed 28 Jul 2021 (Forum)
The brakes work brilliantly and stop me really quickly but I feel I need too press the pedal a bit further than when I first put the pads in. Cheers for any help
  • Ford fiesta mk6 zetec s 1.6 petrol - One side brake hotter than other side 20 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Hello, I have noticed recently that the passenger side front brakes are getting around 6-7 degrees hotter than the drivers side front. I took the brakes on that side apart and checked the caliper and it goes in and out easily no problem. I regreesed the slider pins and made sure the ears on the pads could slide easily aswell but this has made no difference.
  • Daihatsu Skywing - Assymetric flow in the braking system 23 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Using a syringe to flush and bleed the rear brakes, it'll suck OK but it blows very slowly, Stripped and cleaned both wheel cylinders. They weren't bad, and it didn't make much difference. Connecting syringe directly to the brake pipe going forward gives fast bi-directional flow, so its apparently a property of the rear.
  • Honda Jazz - Rattling noise from rear tyre when brake 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Today when I drive my car for the 1st time after my vacation, there is a weird rattling noise from the rear tyre side when I brake the car. The noise is more obvious when I drive the car down the hill. What problem could it be? Why there is a rattling noise? Could it be a parking brake problem? Please advise. Thank you.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus - Rhythmic noise when braking / coming 13 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Not long after driving away we have noticed a rhythmic noise coming from the rear in the last few seconds before the car comes to a stop, the rhythm slowing down as the car does. It doesn't sound like the brake pads although, naturally,  the brakes are being applied at this point. Any ideas what it might be? The car is going back to the garage today and I don't want to be fobbed off as I have just bought the car from them and want the issue resolved.
  • Dazzling Brake Lights 23 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I suppose the real answer would be for an EU directive to fit a timed module to new cars so that when it is stationary, and the brake lights applied for , say, more than 10 seconds, a light of equal intensity would illuminate on the instrument binnacle, either that or  the airbag should go off.
