  • Most dangerous driving experience 28 May 2004 (Forum)
Had the most dangerous driving experience of my life this morning. I was on my way to work, in lane 3 of the M60, when I rubbed my eyes, as they were itching. 20 minutes earlier I had been preparing this evenings meal, a dish involving soy sauce, rice vinegar, spring onions and red and green chillies.
  • Supercar Days 19 Sep 2003 (Forum)
After the '50 things to do before you die' program on BBC the other night, it got me thinking. I realised i have to drive a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. Well its my b'day in October and would like to do the above at a Supercar day. GF will pay for it but not sure which to do. Did a track day at thruxton a few years ago and the Ferrari 355 drive was booked - i was absolutely gutted.

Please help me; are Ford ripping me off? Can I get belts that drive everything else and do not need to go around the compressor or am I going to have to pay out £700?
  • why did you choose your car ? 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It's very clear to me that many people are extremely attached to their cars and I just wondered what made BackRoomers choose their cars. What car do you drive and what made you choose it ? Was it just looks (are you sure ??) or was it something more important like, fuel economy, size, practicality, cost, performance, driving pleasure ? Come on - what car do you drive and why did you buy it ?

  • Commercial Insurance - puzzle? 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Anybody can form a company, so a group of people could form a company (Uninsurable Drivers Ltd !) and then drive their company vehicles.
  • Cruise control and the right foot. 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
What is the best position for your right foot when driving the car on the cruise control? I ask because today while driving on the motorway in the BMW 320 on the cruise, I was sat with my right foot flat on the floor. Suddenly, someone pulled into my lane without looking.
  • Motoring in UK 17 Apr 2002 (Forum)
After returning from 2 weeks in switzerland and France it is cetainly disappointing to be driving back in UK. It seems after you have brought diesel for 45p a lt, driven on open, uncongested well laid roads and not been caught by video cameras and CCTV for speeding when in fact you were not, that driving in Britain is a tedious and joyless experience.
  • Dealer History 2 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I intend to do the intermediate services myself after the cambelt change and dealer service at the 27K interval I drive about 40k a year so it will still receive good attention really. I just wondered if anybody has any thoughts on this procedure, I intend to drive it for at least another 2 years when it will have the best part of 150K on the clock so resale with dealer history may not be that relevant.
  • ANY - Light wars 9 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Are some people so bad at driving that they cannot see clearly without full beam? Some of those lights were really really bad.
  • Insuring a driver from and back to airport 14 Jun 2024 (Forum)
A neighbour sometimes drives our car back from Heathrow and disconnects the battery, then a few weeks later reconnects it to drive back to the longstay pick-up area.   Any thoughts on insurance, as the fee for just a couple of hours comprehensive cover on two different days has risen hugely.

  • Kia Picanto - A bit of a tight situation 23 Mar 2023 (Forum)
A news story just came my way that I thought migth both anger, amuse and puzzle at the same time (here it is in non-paywalled version on the Beeb): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-65013277 A literal 'hold my beer' (the yoof driving it was arrested for drink driving).  Apparently it is quite wedged in there.  I wonder if letting down the tyres will help free it up enough for it to be *somehow* craned out?
  • Completely new driver, need buying advice 2 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Hello,  I'm new to driving and need to buy a very affordable first car, but I don't know quite where to start. What is the minimum I should be spending for a run-around like a Polo or Golf? I see a lot of decent looking ones on ebay for £1,750-2,500 that I wouldn't mind driving.

  • Ford Focus 1.6 auto 2003. - New Tyres. 7 Jan 2021 (Forum)
My car had an M.O.T yesterday and there is an advisory for 2 rear tyres. I usually drive about 3000 miles per annum, 2500 last year and no motorway driving. Is there a specific type of tyre I should get fitted? I have always gone for mid priced tyres but just wondered if I should take more care in my choice.
