  • Audi A4 B6 - Stuttering engine then stall - 2004 1.9 TDI 23 Apr 2019 (Forum)
This happened 3 more times on way home but did make it back. No codes have come up at this point. I have been advised to replace diesel fuel filter as first port of call but I'm worried I'm just going to be throwing money at it. Does anyone have any idea of the likely reasons behind this happening? I'm a novice mechanic i.e. brake pad and filter changes etc, I just hope someone has had the same symptoms and has been able to fix.
  • Citroen C4 Picasso 2013+ - Citroen C4 Picasso 2013+ pros and cons 1 May 2015 (Forum)
I was able to add Citroen backup to the level of the Hyundai 5-year deal. The main pros of the car are its stylish looks (it turns heads), and fuel economy of which I am pleased. The 1.6 diesel engine should be reliable as it is used in so many other makes of cars.   A 60mpg ave is based on a 64 mile daily run of 16 miles in London and 8 miles country roads against the rush hour, with 40 motorway miles, not in boy-racer style.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2002 1.4TDCI ? injectors or pump 26 May 2012 (Forum)
can the siemens system be tested) to be told all four injectors needed replacing. When I got it back the last time it could only just do 30mph with foot flat to floor on accelarator and it kept stalling never done that before. We have been told lots of waffle over the last few months. It has supposed to have had the exhaust cut in half to test the pressure, ecu checked and fuel pump flow. Two of the injectors have been taken out again and the spray was ok.Someone told us the injectors need coding on the siemens and one guy said not.Totally confused don't know where to go now.We have got to pick it up tomorrow after it's latest 6wk stint at the garage still unroadworthy.Mechanic now thinks could be injector pump but needs taking off and testing.Might still not be that. Please can somebody help.
  • Alternatives to a Fiesta Econetic TDCi DPF ? 20 May 2010 (Forum)
I guess I'd keep it for quite a while even though residuals might be strong. I must admit that if I amandon the sub 110 CO2 limits then the argument for a diesel might not be so strong as we won't be doing mega mileages. 12k a year would be around the mark I guess. My worry is hearing of small petrol engines which are supposed to do 50 mpg around town but which are returning 35, making fuel 50% more expensive.
  • Citroen Xsara - 1998 XSARA Hatch - Door Locks do not open with key 1 May 2010 (Forum)
there is no motor noise, so it is not mechanical, it is electrical 3. The door key works on the fuel cap, and the ignition, so i am assuming it is the right one for the doors, but they might have been replaced. 4.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.9 Car stopped just after i filled up 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
well let me explain from the start, i went to the shell garage on tuesday 11.08.09 like i do every 3-4 days and filled my car up to the brim with diesel. i started my car and only after 1.8 miles i was pulling up to a set of lights when it felt like i stalled it so i turned the key and the car was trying to start but wouldnt (if you know what i mean) the engine was turning over but not starting.
  • My new Ford Focus CC3 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The car drives much like an ordinary Focus - very well - although some uneven road surfaces provoke what I'm fairly sure is mild scuttle shake, but since my scuttle has never previously been shaken, I can't be certain. Brakes are an improvement on my old Focus, and the two-litre diesel is quieter and has more go than the 1.8 I had in the last car. The extra weight of the roof makes the car feel better balanced and even with that weight it's doing 40mpg. Not bad with zilch miles on the clock - it should use a bit less fuel as the engine wears in.
  • Peugeot Expert Tepee (2007 - ) - 2001 2.0hdi - running problem 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Took it back to the garage and they said it was coming up with low fuel pressure. Cleared the light and on i went the light went on and off for the last week until one day i was out and the van was running all over the shop so limped upto the garage and they said try a new filter and this should sort it.
  • Skoda Roomster (2006 - ) - Any advice? 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
We've just had a look at a Roomster and she's impressed - lots of space for all the stuff she carts around from time to time. Automatic in Roomsters means a 1.6 16V 105bhp Tiptronic . Fuel economy isn't really an issue as she does about 7,000 miles a year. We've booked the test drive for next week in a 1.6 Fabia auto - mechanically similar, they haven't an automatic Roomster for us to drive.

Courtesy of ***** ******* Volkswagen Technical Support Specialist Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Detailed below is important information outlining the function and features of the Diesel Particulate filter which all members of your team need to be aware of. Diesel particulate filters are becoming more commonplace on diesel engines, particularly sizes 2.0L upwards.
  • Jaguar x type 2.0 ltr D. - Engine cuts out when driving / turning right 16 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I appoligies for the long story but hope all the details will help to resolve the problem. I have a Jaguar 2.0 ltr diesel, 06 with 93k 0n the clock. I purchased the car at the end of  july this year. The car was driving fine mostly local journeys. Then i was driving the dorset at the end of August for our holiday.
  • Qashqai - The first 2000 miles 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The glass roof was a bit of a worry as we use a bike rack but I found a clamp on backpack style one to fit. Fuel consumption is only OK at 38mpg but apparently these are not famous for being frugal. So far so good.
  • All the car you need? 7 Feb 2022 (Forum)
It came about during the usual spat involving a fellow driver talking about buying a daft twin turbo diesel BMW 335d for £5000. An all too frequent convo involving someone on an ordinary wage with little spare money thinking that buying a highly complex prestige turbocharged car would be an astute move and me arguing that it would not.
  • Volkswagen Golf - Help a young female buy a Golf please! 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
What I'd ideally like to do is walk in knowing the exact model which is right for me, so as not to get sucked in. What I'm looking for is: Around 2-3 years old Any sized engine up to 2.0 Diesel 5 doors Manual Good fuel economy Low/no road tax - I am aware that some models after '09 fall into this bracket I do around 20,000 miles a year which is quite high, so I'm looking for something quite economical.
  • Van owners: LPG is dying, let's talk biomethane! 24 Mar 2024 (Forum)
I'm interested because I have a petrol Nissan Elgrand people carrier and want to live in it, criss-cross Europe in it, be kind to the climate and not spend too much on fuel. LPG sales at filling stations are so tiny that filling station owners are removing LPG pumps to make space for EV chargers. And LPG prices have gone up a great deal. So if you have a petrol or diesel engine, LPG conversion is not nearly as attractive as it used to be.
  • Personal buying habits 22 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Since 1990 there has been a series of 205s, some 306s and finally a 207; some petrol and some diesel. A Dturbo failed with a snapped clutch cable, and again when the float in the fuel tank stuck, making SWMBO think she was getting amazing economy. The aged Garros 205 failed once, I believe because the cambelt had jumped a tooth, luckily without any engine damage.
  • A cheap to run luxury(ish) car? Tough one... 25 May 2023 (Forum)
I'm very grateful to one of the site contributers at Ask John for suggesting my brother goes for a VW Golf mk 7 to replace his beloved Lexus CT200h Advance (2014 plate).  While he's loving the tech spec of the Golf and is warming to the fuel efficiency despite the cost of diesel, he's balking at the cockpit design.  To explain the following, he is neurodivergent (think Forest Gump but not as severe) and, whilst an excellent driver, he can be a stickler for things that someone us may not find important.
  • 2005 VW Transporter. Maybe changing it? 26 Jan 2018 (Forum)
As a vehicle it is ok, but, our business needs are changing as we are running stationary hives and it is also big, heavy and not great on fuel. If we do need to go on the motorway it gets really noisy and is a bit slow....... Also the diesel side of things worry me as it is currently doing lots of stop start and short trips and this is only going to get worse in the coming years as even the longest trip will probably be half an hour each way.
  • Toyota Prius - Used car advice 22 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I am drawn to toyotas because of their reputation for longevity and reliability. I also want good fuel economy. I will be driving a 100 mile round trip commute 3 times a week on mostly motorways and A roads but with some inevitable London congestion. Other times I'll be doing a mixture of city driving as well as some longer motorway journeys around the country.
  • Mazda 3 / Skoda Octavia / new Suzuki Vitara - New car - hatchback/new family 28 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The last 3 still in the game are the following:   Mazda 3 sedan 2.0 petrol, 120HP: +: killer looks, japanese made (my old one has 205000 km without a fault), big boot -: not a lot of space on the back seat (wonder if I could fit a 0 group baby seat there, as it takes a lot of space), trunk opening as bad as on my current Mazda   Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI, 105 HP: +: a lot of space on back seats, trunk opening can swallow an Airbus inside, excellent fuel consumption -: average/pensioner look, high price here in Croatia (22500€, whereas Mazda comes to 19500 in the similar spec level)   New Suzuki Vitara, 1.6 VVT petrol, 120 HP: +: cool crossover looks, nicely equipped for the price, gives same amount of space in back seats as Mazda, 375L trunk seems as it could just fit both stroller parts, has cam chain -: fit and finish (the door just doesn't want to clap when you gently try to close, completely unimpressed by that), price for diesel version goes sky high (21500€, unacceptable for a smaller car with this fit and finish), 1,6 petrol says 5,3L/100km (53 mpg), tests give 7,5L/100km (37 mpg)   Further to consumption, Mazda has 5,1L/100km (55 mpg) on highway test at 100km/h, and 7,0 (40) at 130 km/h, which is, for a 2.0 petrol, excellent.
