Rover 220 running on idle 1 May 2005 (Forum)
Some days it runs as smooth as a baby bum constantly at 1000 rpm then some other days like today it ticks over like its running on 3 cylinders at around 500 rpm down to 0 rpm it goes up and down like a yo yo and then stalls. I need some clues to where to start looking i checked all ht leads they are all fine. The thing that confuses me is when i put my foot on the gas it runs perfect its only on tick over. Any ideas and sugestions??? Thanks wayne -
98 Ford Fiesta MK4 1.3 Encore 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
At the moment I have two mains problems with it. 1)The engine dies at full revs when driving and I have to lift off slightly to get power back. Does anyone know what this is - a fuel problem or HT lead? 2) It needs a new clutch. I have got the new plates for it but have realised that this is beyond my capability! How much will I be looking at roughly to have this job done at a local garage ? There are only 2 garages near me and both have quoted £100 + vat which seems mightily excessive to me just for labour. -
Computer related questions. Volume 40 28 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Having just glanced in the box, I find it has just 128mb/266mhz memory and that might also be shared with the graphics! There is no AGP slot, just a green one with a half card leading to video out. Before I touch it, I'm planning to get at least an additional 256mb memory, then look for nasties - he has a broadband connection and his son appears to have removed the Zone Alarm I put on it months ago. -

MGF : spark plugs ? 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
So I am unsure even which side of the engine they are. Can't find a coil/distrubutor so can not trace the plug leads either. Reluctant to rely on the main agent and pay loads of money and not even be sure the plugs will be replaced. So over to you clever chaps please. -
VW TDi fuel pump bolts 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Volkswagen said a defect during the manufacturing process of a bolt on the cover of the fuel pump could, ?in isolated cases,? lead to the bolt breaking ? possibly resulting in a leakage of diesel fuel. K2 -
Blackpool illuminations. 19 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It felt very surreal and expensive with virtually everything lit up from the air vent thumbwheels to the steering wheel controls. Even controllable ambient lighting for the cabin no less! What a sheltered life i lead! What's your views on dashboard lighting? I personally love it nice and bright and everything lit up. Never use the rheostat. The more back lighting used the more expensive the car feels? Love the blue VW uses but can't help feeling disapointed at Ford with the Mondeo and Galaxy with the dim analogue clock which is virtually unreadable at night. -
Poor starting - Mondeo 1.8 lx 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
On cranking there is a loud clicking noise which seems to come from glovebox area when sitting in the car. Eventually car starts and then runs well. Serviced only recently and new plugs/leads. Weird thing however is that as car is trying to start the the windscreen wipers move across the screen (even though not turned on) and the central locking seems to be activating. I've been out tonight and the lights are dimming on cranking the engine, but would a failing battery account for the wipers and central locking activating on their own?? -
mondeo holding back 9 Oct 2004 (Forum)
What is happening is that when driving along and only touching the throttle it feels like it is holding back then when I start to give it more throttle it almost starts to miss fire then all of a sudden it will clear it self and go, I have changed the plugs and leads but has done nothing I was told it could be the air flow meter but I tried that and still the same, I also tried injector cleaner as I thought it might help but it didnt although it has never got any worse I really need it sorted out as it just is not a smooth drive so any help would be great. -
Talking up a fuel Crisis? 4 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It's generally belived that last time we had a fuel crisis the cause was panic buying rather than the blockading of refineries. So I was wondering, could all this talk actually cause fuel supply problems by leading people to think that a crisis exists even without any form of industrial action or supply problems? (and yes I recognise the irony of starting a thread to talk about the problems caused by people talking too much about fuel!) -

Hi, My Omega 2.0 has had over the last 6 months overheating problems leading to new head gasket, radiator, water pump, thermostat x2, electric fan switch, hose split x 2. I have since taken it to a different garage that was recommended to be told the temp prob is normal!! -
fiesta 1.1 starting and running problems 29 May 2004 (Forum)
With careful balancing of the accelerator (and a few stalls later) it can be pursuaded to keep going, and once it gets warm it stops stalling. I've tried new HT leads and sparks. I think it might be the temperature sensors, if I check their resistance with a multimeter what should they read? Someone suggested cleaning the breathing tubes, how would I do that? Thanks everyone for your continuing help! -
A3 Quattro recall (new shape) 15 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I saw the original one "29-9-2003: On 21,694 cars shatter cracks may occur on vacuum pipe to brake servo, leading to loss of servo assistance to brakes." But as my car is 04 I'm assuming this was done. The new recall states "On A3 Quattro models, in rare cases there is a possibility that the left rear brake pipe may become damaged. -
Battery changing advice that works 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Many moons ago, my father taught me that when removing or refitting a car battery, always disconnect the positive lead second, and reconnect it first. The reason? If, whilst swinging the spanner round to do/undo terminal posts you touch the bodywork or engine, no short circuit will be completed. Think about it, and he's right. -
Omega V6 thermostat : Where is it ? 17 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It is not obvious to me exactly where the thermostat is !!. both of the main connections to the rad lead to some very inhospitable places on the engine so much so that I cannot get to or see anything which resembles a thermostat housing. Does anyone know where I can find this thing and also advise me if I should even attempt this. -
Mystery Motorway Exit... 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know where the mysterious 'Works Exit' junction lead to that's situated between J14 & J13 east bound on the M4? I've heard that it's some sort of secret nuclear bunker or even a missile storage site. The fact that the sign is permanent - and not a temporary flimsy ? -
golf gti miss fire 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1990 golf gti 8v (167k on the clock) with an intermitant miss fire. it happens at random RPMs (even at tickover) and at various trottle positions and it seems to miss a beat. this can happen as a single or sometimes as a group seperated by a second or so. When it misses the rev counter doesn't twitch I have replaced the following plugs leads dizzy cap + rotor arm fuel filter stp injector cleaner The rest of the time it runs great, it revs smoothly and quickly, pulls well but this is baffling me. i have only had the car 3 weeks (didn't show up on the test drive) and it is begining to bug me. -
oily wet spark plug? - Mondeo 10 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Just taken no.1 plug out my \'94 2l mondeo. last plugs were placed at about 70k, 30 months ago.based on the pictures in the back of my heynes manual i would say the nose of thegsplug is between \'normal\' and overheating. the thread is quite oily and the upper part has quite a bit of crap ringed into the grooves. i am changing the plugs and leads as there is a bit of hesitation when accelerating in 3rd from about 2500 rpm. as this problem was previously cured lasttime by my garage by the prvious plug change i thought i would do the same. should i be alarmed by the plug appearance??? -
