  • Honda Civic diesel hatchback (2004) - Steering kick-back 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I did have a problem with the steering a few months ago, when the EPS warning light came on, and the steering became extremely heavy. A faulty battery was diagnosed, and I thought replacing the battery would solve all steering problems, but it didn't. The garage has not been able to find anything wrong, and has just given an MOT pass to the car.
  • Mazda 2 - Mazda 2 problem starting from cold 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest what the problem could be?  I'm worried that the problem will reoccur this Winter (its been serviced and the battery is fine) and as I know nothing about cars I don't know what to ask the garage to do. Thanks
  • Chrysler Voyager - Dashboard lights not working 25 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Car needs a new steering rack, plus tax & MOT, so decided to have it off the road Nov & Dec. Battery went dead, so charged it up, and an alarm (not the normal one) kept going off, so had to disconnect battery. Connected it back up to try & sort it, and it hasn't gone off since, but none of the dash lights, speedo, odometer etc are not working.
  • peugeot 306 meridian 1.4 petrol - peugeot 306 problem 21 Mar 2011 (Forum)
As he was taking a look he noticed a wire running fom one of the fuses in the fuse box next to the battery to a square black connector at the top of the fuse box and said that shouldnt be there like its bypassing something. Also if this helps the car has had a light driver side bang just damaging the wing, light and bumper.

  • 2002 Toyota Rav4 diesel - Multiple dashboard warning lights on at once 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Today after a short 1.5 hr stop I started the car to find 3 dash warning lights lit up (where before there were none (and never have been)):- the battery discharge light, the low oil level light and the fuel filter light. I limped home (3 miles in dark - all seemed fine) and consulted the handbook which says:- battery discharge (??) check oil level and add oil purge fuel filter (instructions in there how to do) Query:- I find it strange that all 3 lit up at same time?
  • HJ's Nissan Leaf "how far can you go" review. 17 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Top Gear's similar “how far can we go on a gallon of fuel” test enraged me - the "Pious" set off with fully-charged batteries + a gallon of fuel - that test was simply unfair, the energy in the "Piouses" batteries didn't come from nowhere - it cost fuel to put it there! Rant over - I'll go for a lie down now...
  • Fiat Spyder 2L - Starting after 12 months non use 4 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Easy start allows it to fire  up (probably on the ether) and then will sputter on 1/2 cylinders when cranking, but not run.  The battery is remarkably lively for a 4year old battery that has been abused.  I have suggested putting new petrol in but is there a way of bleeding the old petrol from the pump and  fuel lines?  My next move is to check whether there is a reasonable spark, but yesterday tools were negligible and poor lighting in the the subterranean garage.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 Car didn't start - causes? 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What could have caused this? I am worried inc ase it happens again. It has been very wet here so could it just be the battery terminals which got damp?
  • New Chinese electric car 400km range 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The Tesla electric sports car does almost as much, but has little room for anything else in the car but the battery. The E6 is roomy with space for five passengers and a good-sized boot. The battery tucks under the back seat. It needs 7-8 hours with a domestic plug to charge the car but BYD - it stands for Build Your Dreams - says a specially developed fast charging point with a lead the diameter of a fire hose will fill up the car in just one hour.
  • Nissan Micra (1983 - 1992) - 90 988 starting problems 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have replaced distributor cap, rotor arm, and leads which have made it sound a little less "rough" when it does start, but doesn't actually help with the problem. Yesterday I charged the battery fully (as I thought that I had been trying to start it so much I don't want to completely deaden the battery) and this mornign it did try to start. I am sort of guessing that I have got some leaky wiring somewhere maybe?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Problems 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.0 door mirror glass loose & indicator trouble 1 Feb 2009 (Forum)
When indicating left the flasher goes at double speed (this is usual as a warning that something is wrong isn't it?). I did a forum search and someone mentioned dodgy relays, or that disconnecting the battery for ten minutes can sometimes fix the problem. I have tried the battery disconnection but it had no effect. Any ideas?
  • Ford Cougar (1998 - 2000) - 99 2.5 v6 intermittent low rev engine hesistation 29 Jul 2008 (Forum)
When i changed the spark plugs about a month ago i noticed that 1 cylinder was fitted with a short reach spark plug. This aroused my suspicion. However the car was running perfectly so i didnt worry about it.In the past sometimes when starting the engine the rev counter and speedo needles would osciliate together and the locking mechanism could be heard clickingin the doors. On several occasions the time clock had to be reset indicating the battery was loosing charge.Anyway one morning the battery packed in so replaced it.The rev counter and speedo have behaved since changing the battery. The problem now is a hesistation or misfire at engine speeds between 1200rpm to 2300rpm.I am debating whether to refit a new short reach plug to the one cylinder or to change the H.T leads.Part of me thinks the problem could be related to the faulty battery.Any ideas???
  • DIY-Proof Cars 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've just given up trying to change the oil on my Fiat Multiwagon, having discovered that my new Halfords wrench for removing the drain plug wont't fit (this has nine heads and 'fits most cars'). I've also found that it is impossible to replace any of the front bulbs myself, as the battery blocks access on one side, and the washer fluid bottle on the other, and have been unable to help with jump starting a neighbour's car due to my battery being boxed in by a cover attached by star screws, which I couldn't remove without the appropriate tool.
  • Is it worth buying?? 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The dealer delivered the car to his house and it has been sitting there ever since. Obviously I could not get it going as the battery was dead, however the interior is not too bad considering. Exterior is really covered in moss etc but appears to just need a good clean. I reckon I'm going to need new tyres, belts, suspension bushes, oil, filter, plugs, battery brakes, gearbox oil, maybe a new cat and whatever else!!!
  • Renault Espace 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
A few weeks ago the car suffered a massive electrical failure which has been traced to an alternator over charge of the battery. Most lights that were on at the time blew plus a few fuses. The fuses, battery and alternator have been changed, but the car now will not run. The engine turns over, fires and runs for about 3-5 secs then cuts out.
  • Citroen Xsara Starting problems 31 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Managed to get going by giving it some throttle and reving it. Went in for sercice. Asked to check Battery and Alternator and told all OK. Fine since but has been parked up all week with the cold weather and same thing happened today. It did start after 20 goes! I was wondering if the battery is weak under cold weather and once it gets going it quickly charges, or could it be cold start mechinism.
  • Ford Focus Idle Problem?? 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I would appreciate any help, as i feel the dealer is guessing? Will it help by disconnecting the battery to make the ECU re learn its sensors? If so, what do i need to do to put the ECU in \'learn\' mode? How long does the battery need disconnecting? How should i drive it afterwards? Thanks for the anticipated help.
