Having problems bringing a Rover 218 (M reg) radio back to life after the battery was disconnected. Have tried following guidelines in the rover handbook, which suggested a "C" should be displayed but it was totally blank. Have also tried leaving it on for long journeys - any ideas?

  • Mazda CX-5 SportNav (petrol) - 14 reg. Report 7 Feb 2025 (Forum)
New stabiliser bar mounting needed. On New Year's Day 2025, after the car had stood unused for a few days, I got the "Battery management system" warning and replaced the battery, which was the original and had given 10½ years' service. A few weeks after, more knocking from the suspension and had a track-rod end replaced.
  • Ford Kuga Phev - Ford Kuga 22 plate Recall 31 May 2024 (Forum)
After quite a long saga and over a year since the original Recall notice was issued for my Ford Kuga 22 plate PHEV, the dealership took the car in last week to have the fire safety recall work completed in the form of a software update and also replaced the faulty 12 volt battery with a new AGM battery. My trouble is I have nothing from either the Dealership or from Ford to say the work has been completed and the Recall no longer applies to my car. I have been email ping ponging between the Dealership and Ford but so far they have not provided any official written confirmation that the Recall is now complete.
  • MG sets benchmark on affordable family EV (again) 29 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Now they are bringing us the MG4, slightly smaller, more distinctive in appearance, and crucially, even cheaper. Prices start just under £26k for the smaller battery model (around £2k cheaper than the MG5) with a WLTP range of 218 miles. An extra £2.5k gets you the bigger battery with a 281 mile range and still comes out nearly £800 less than the cheapest Corsa-e!.
  • Components ICE verses Electric 12 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Radiator//hoses/water pump/car heater/auxiliary drive belts  Drive shafts Alternator/Air filter/oil filter/coil packs/spark plugs/all sensors that monitor the engine/battery/Throttle body Exhaust system/catalytic converter/cat sensors Engine/gearbox/clutch and or auto gearbox/engine/gearbox mounts These all add up to a tidy cash sum. What replaces them on your EV Well a battery pack and electric motor/drive shafts/component electrical connections.
  • Efficiency of Electric Cars 14 Oct 2020 (Forum)
He commented on a measurement I am unused to - Efficiency.   In an electric car measure by Range in miles (WLTP) divided by battery rated capacity in KWH.. For the XC40 that is 260miles divided by 78KWH 3 or 3.33 or 75KWH if you  talk usable capacity = 3.46 That is "poor " apparently.
  • Peugeot 308 - Gearbox issue 10 Oct 2020 (Forum)
The repairman also suspected that the problem would be because of one of the linkages. We disassembled the tray below the engine compartment, battery, battery tray and some other hoses in the engine bay. We realized that the linkages were in place and they are just fine. The repairman couldn't find any problem there and he decided that the problem is probably somewhere in the gearbox.

  • VW Golf Mk 5 (2004) petrol - Intermittently fails to start 28 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I initially though immobiliser but that light comes on briefly and then goes out as it should. It has a new battery with plenty of charge. This is the second time this has happened - both times the car had been left for the day and failed on returning to it. The first time my son ran the battery completely flat cranking it over and next morning it started fine with a jump start.
  • Peugeot 307 - Peugeot 307 won't start 10 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Hi all, my car headlights like to switch themselves on and think they must've been on after last used and the battery drained over the weekend. The battery was taken off, charged and put back on (not by me) but I don't think the safe procedure I've read about was followed due to not knowing about it. So now it won't start (previously sounded like it would but then just turned over) and the STOP and engine management lights have come on.
  • VW Polo 1.9 TDI Sport 2003 - Engine randomly cutting out + alarm going off 9 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I restarted, and it cut again. This happened a few more times, then it wouldn't start at all - as if the battery was completely flat. Then 30 minutes later it came back to life and started, but then kept cutting out.  The AA diagnosed it as a knackered battery and we changed this, and afterwards it seemed to work fine, however the problem has now recurred and additionally the alarm started randomly going off too.
  • Ford Grand Tourneo Connect - Bonnet lock handle 8 Sep 2014 (Forum)
A fellow camper on this site flattened the battery on his new Tourneo by running his fridge overnight on 12V. He opened the driver's door with the key and the rear hatch, however the passenger door and the sliding doors remained electronically locked.
  • mazda rx8 2006 - ignition/immobiliser staring issue 10 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The other locks still worked on the remote oh and the coolant level light was on but that was the expansion tank sensor issue which was fixed some time ago. The battery was also replaced a few months prior to this problem.
  • Vauxhall Astra Sxi - Vauxhall Astra 6 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi All I have a 51 plate Astra 1.8 16v Sxi  The car was parked on my drive approx October 2012 due to ill heath, I attempted to start the car Friday night but the battery was completely flat.   I replaced the battery (Saturday) and the car started first turn of the key ( WOW I Thought ) After the first initial start the engine would only occasionally rev / respond to the accelerator and the idle was very lumpy it sounded like it may have only been running on two cylinders shortly after the engine stalled Upon restart the engine revved almost into the red but then died back to a very lumpy idle and again only occasionally responding to the accelerator Noting the fuel was quite low and thinking the petrol may have gone off over the winter months I added approx. two gallons of fuel which has made no difference at all Hoping the head gasket hasn’t gone or something more severe due to the bitter winter months Anyone help
  • Ford Fiesta - Immobiliser 19 May 2013 (Forum)
Initially I disconnected the live terminal and left it off for twenty minutes .i then restarted the car but it ran for ten minutes before stalling again ,the lock and temperature display were the same . Because disconnecting the battery had some effect ,I disconnected the live battery terminal again and left it off for an hour . That did the trick ,the car now starts and drives fine .I guess the time delay allows the ecu to reset ?
