  • Winners and Losers - Crash protection 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Interestingly he drives a Saab saloon but years ago many of his colleagues drove Lada Riva , again rear wheel drive cars which have the longitudal strength needed to to align the gearbox with the rear axle. He remembers vividly a MB slicing through a peugeot 405 with the worst outcome for all except the MB occupants.
  • Dashcam footage of dangerous driving. 18 Nov 2018 (Forum)
There have been plenty of times since i got the dashcam i have wondered about this, as i see plenty of horrendous driving!

  • Pools of water in the road 27 Feb 2018 (Forum)
When passing that way it is common to see people waiting at the crossing and there is a risk of driving a wall of water over them. One summer day I was driving through a village and I saw a group of pre-teen girls waiting on the pavement beside a pool in the road and gesticulating to me to drive through the pool thus splashing them.
  • Ford Ka+ - Minor accident advice - hit bus but didn't realise 26 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I was stupidly trying to squeeze past a bus today and accidentally bumped it, nothing major, knocked my mirror a little but I thought that was it. Parked up, sorted it out, bus started to drive off but ambulance came up and so he had to park up again, just in front of me. I stayed put and bus began to drive off when ambulance went past so I'm not sure if he noticed I'd knocked my car on him.

  • VAG 1.2 TSI engine - am I asking for trouble? 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The other option is a 1.4 petrol Hyundai i30, but this is much less powerful and I don’t think will be as good a drive. Price is on it’s side though, and I do have back to back test drives planned for the weekend. I would appreciate thoughts on the 1.2 TSI as a long term ownership proposition….
  • 2006 Ford Focus II Ghia 1.6 Ti-VCT 115PS - Starter Motor Occasionally Not Engaging 15 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Coincident with the onset of colder damper weather the starter motor of my Ford Focus occassionally does not engage with the ring gear on the flywheel to turn the engine.  The motor turns ok but the drive gear just rattles against the side of the ring gear.  It always works ok at the 2nd or 3rd attempt.  I think it just needs a bit of lubrication on the starter motor drive shaft so that the drive gear can slide easily to engage in the flywheel ring gear.
  • Approved Used Cars 20 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Hi,  I've seen an approved used car for sale on the mazda official website, which exactly fits the spec I am looking for.  Unfortunately it is 4 hours drive away. I've previously only ever bought cars from independent traders, and in those circumstances I've obviously always ensured that I can drive and closely inspect the car prior to making a decision on purchasing.
  • 3 Simple Driving Safety Tips 29 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It is human nature to believe that they know what they are doing, particularly when they are drinking. 3. A simple rule to keep in mind for driving safely is common civility. If one allows others to go ahead, one can save various probable troubles on the road from happening.
  • Ford Mondeo - Ford Mondeo mk3 - rattle 17 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hi, question for you here - OK so just last week, whilst driving around a corner the engine temporally stalled for a split second, this was complemented with a screech from the drivers side of the engine, upon driving home there was a slight chaffing sound, i traced this to the idler pulley (packing in) and replaced myself.
  • Driving Test No Show - By the DSA 18 Apr 2012 (Forum)
After a double driving lesson my daughter turned up at the test centre this morning for her appointment to find the place closed. Eventually staff turned up but they had no knowledge of the appointment and apparently the tester would not have been able to do the appointed route anyway (not sure about the last bit but was something like that) Daughter was given a complaint number to ring and sent on her way.
  • Speed Awareness Course tips 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
It doesn’t matter where you are: if you can’t see a speed limit sign at any point, drive at 30mph until you see one. It’s safer.” “You should never stop looking for pedestrians. I even look under trucks and buses!” “If you’ve got to drive somewhere you’ve never driven before, try to go at least once before you really need to go – just so you’re not lost or rushing when you get there.
  • h reg 1.3 escort - young driver insurance 17 Dec 2011 (Forum)
just been reading an article about engenie young drivers insurance very interesting including the part about fitting a device to monitor there driving to gain discounts on there insurance ,so i thought its worth a look and lets get a quote for my son.I couldnt believe the figures they came back with for a 17 yr old just passed there test with a 1.3 escort h reg as the vehicle £4682.00 and after they monitor the driving for 12 months it would be £4220.So i decided to go to compare the market for a quote and the cost was £2457.00,the ad for engenie was supposed to encourage young drivers to drive sensibly and gain good discounts it seems to me they are just trying to jump on the bandwagon of clobbering young drivers and grab a share of the market rather than help overcome an ever increasing problem.
  • Vauxhall Omega - Vauxhall Omega 2.2 CD Auto Gearbox Problem 3 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Very occasionally, I will lose drive altogether for a few seconds as if I'd pressed an imaginary clutch pedal. I have heard that this is not an unknown problem on larger engined Vauxhall automatics. Obviously the momentary loss of drive is the most worrying problem.
  • Selling an Untaxed/Un-MOT'd Car 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Some clarification much appreciated, The other half is selling her old motor, a tatty 206 that's been off road and out of use for about the past 6 months or so. Having been parked up it is of course on SORN and has no current MOT. It's now sat on the drive, awaiting somebody to hand over a couple of hundred beans and find a use for it. Obviously we'll advertise it as not legally roadworthy, but I'm curious as to our legal position if a buyer should decide to drive it away anyway.
  • Advice needed - small car needed for city driving 21 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Would anyone be able to help me out and recommend some motors? I have a max £2k budget (credit card only sadly, so would have to be trade) and will be driving in the city every day, with a 4 hour motorway trip once a month. I don't have a large family (2 peeps + 1 small dog) so don't necessarily need a big car or a big engine. Would love to get something reliable so I don't fear the dashboard light of death each time I get in (it'd be a first!)
  • '52 Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 Estate - Noise - Tyres ? Something Else ? 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Car is fiited with new-looking tyres branded "Sunny". So is it cheap tyres or something more sinister ? I'm off driving in Europe very soon, so need a bit of confidence in what I'm driving. If it's the tyres I can live with it and replace them at some stage. Cheers
