  • Passat 2.0 Tdi '07 - two down, three to go....of what? 23 Mar 2010 (Forum)
the future Mrs L spends a lot of time on the road...100k miles up next week on her '07 2.0 tdi. twice recently the car has lost all power, the first time in lane 3 of the M6 when 'making progess' but she managed to get onto the hard shoulder ok. the second time, a few weeks later, whilst joining the M62. after being both trailered & towed back to the main dealership, they confirmed it was the same fault and they told her that the other 3 could go at any time. SwMbo is no good with things mechanical, although she loves her electronic handbrake, and cannot remember what they told her the problem was. any ideas please before i ring them myself and find out?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 almost stalls when idle,foot on clutch = ok 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It overheated whilst i was parked up (engine still running) sitting outside a shop after a 50mile motorway drive and then a short drive from motorway to the shop. We got the car towed home after it began to stall, i turned off the engine after noticing steam coming from under the bonnet. I then drove it the 2.5 miles to the garage refilling the water once on the way. Any ideas why it might be almost stalling since this all happened?
  • Peugeot 4007 (2007 - ) - 08 2.2 Slipping Clutch 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I can't see how I should be liable for all costs for a car that was new March 08, has never been loaded towed a caravan etc. Anybody have similar issues with this or the 407 2.2HDi, which I think uses the same clutch?
  • Check your passports before heading for France 23 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If he manages to sort out his problem he will then drive straight to Plymouth where my sister in law and the kids are in their caravan which has been parked on a site there since yesterday. Yesterday, they drove from Cheshire with the van in tow to catch a ferry to France last night for their holiday. They were turned back at the port. Neither adult had noticed that the kid's passports have expired. The only passport office with an available appointment was Durham and then only for tomorrow AM.
  • Ridiculous news items 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
But we are then told that this diesel estate car costs half what a large, heavy, thirsty 4x4 does per mile, while not mentioning that it is completely unable to tow the same weight, go offroad, or do anything much that would make the comparison more relevant. WHY?? in other shock news, the Mazda MX5 has less carrying capacity than an 80,000 tonne cargo ship, but is considerably easier to park on your drive.
  • Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 1998 1.9td Broken Tensioner (Won't start) 6 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I stopped immediately and barely managed to get the engine to fire up though it was quite noisy!! I got it towed to a garage who have ahad a look and think that as the ignition will not even turn the engine over that the engine is damadged! This can happen by parts of the tensioner belt flying off underneath the cam belt and throwing the timing out.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 - Head Gasket Problem 20 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I immediately stopped the car but it was too late. After filling water in the radiator it didnt start and the sound of the car changed. Got it towed to this garage and he says it will take around 4 to 5 days. Is that true? BTW My car is a 1999 Model. It will be great if someone can help me out here. Cheers.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 2.0 Car wont start 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The next morning however, after starting the car fine and driving for a mile the engine cut-out. I had it towed to a garage where the mechanic said that my sump was cracked and that the Peugeot 306 was designed to force the engine to cut out if oil loss occured so as to avoid further damage. The mechanic replaced the sump; and here it gets interesting.
  • Car seized despite having insurance - help ? 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
The police followed him to his house but he was unable to find the insurance certificate immediately, and police towed his car away. He found and presented the insurance paperwork that evening at the local station only 4 hours later. Turns out his insurance company's details are not displayed on the Police National Computer, He had his car returned, however it cost him £140.
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2001 1.5dci - ABS light intermittantly on and off. 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Went to a festival a few weekends ago. Parking a nightmare and due to the lake of mud in car park, had to be towed out of field by a tractor. Resultant mud in the wheel arch, suspention mounts and brakes was severe. All has been cleaned now but the ABS warning light has been going on and off intermittently. I can feel a slight decrease in feeling from the brakes but overall efficiency seems fine.
  • Passat 99 TDI - flood water damage 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All My Passat (PD) TDI ended up being covered by a wave from a rather inconsiderate 4x4 owner, the engine promptly stopped working and I ended up being towed to a garage yesterday. Kindly garage owner informed me that the engine was hydraulically locked and potentially an expensive job to put right for which I can claim on my insurance. Imagine my shock when I was called this morning to say that the car started and has been run for a short distance.
  • Tax Disc Dilema 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Couple of weeks ago I received my VEL renewal for 30th April. £195.00 for my anti social, gas guzzling , caravan towing 4X4. Filed it on the side on the "to do" file - not yet urgent, and forgot about it. Today I went to do a bit of shopping and as I returned to the vehicle i glanced at my VEL. The expiry date was 31st March.
  • Volvo V70 CEM drowned in rain ! 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
He switched the wipers off then on again and the engine stopped and wouldn't restart. He had to be towed in to the dealers. They diagnosed a problem with the CEM which had been flooded and wrecked. This seems remarkable, but even worse they told him there were no spares in the UK. He had the impression that a number of V70s had suffered the same fate and all spare CEMs had been used.

  • fabia engine warning - oil overfill 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I rang the AA and asked them and they sent a van, his computer wouldn't talk to it for whatever reason but he said it was overfilled with oil and so didn't want me to drive it, but didn't know if this was the problem. I got a tow back which is a another story. I have booked it in to the garage, no space till next week. My fear is that they have screwed the catalytic converter but would like to know if the warning light could mean this or what else it could mean.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi engine failure 21 May 2006 (Forum)
Computer data lost and computer reset (ECU). After the guarantee period 10 times unexpectedly in garage and towed away 3 times. Replaced clutch (60.000 miles), injectors (3 times, always on cylinder 3), diesel inlet filter, reprogrammed ECU. Last week engine broke (80.000 miles). Piston of cylinder 3 has smashed the internals of the engine completely.

  • immobiliser is too effective! 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
They came, said it was an immobiliser issue since the red security light kept flashing, even after unlocking the car. The bloke said it would have to be towed back to Lexus on Monday morning. Eventually, someone told me to try disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting, and turning the key to ignition position and leaving it there for at least 6 minutes.
  • VW On Call......SIGH....... 12 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Operator said he will give her a ring back in 2 minutes so he could confirm we had cover, which he did, he then said they had had problems with people re-newing for two years, the computer did`nt register this renewel he said. So now the tow truck was on its way to my wife by herself in a layby in the middle of no-where, said it would be within the hour, TWO hours later the van turned up and dealt with the problem. Seems all is not well at Volkswagen from sales, after sales to recovery.
  • Some advice please 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
On Monday my mother was using the Proton, and whist driving it, the car cut out on her (The same fault or similar problem as the pug's 207s) the total loss of engine power - so no brakes, etc... RAC has said that the car is now unfit and unsafe to drive, so it has been towed to another Proton Dealer in Notts this time to find the fault. HQ has been informed and trying to locate the fault. Now since this has happened, could we request another that the car is replaced with another one with the same spec and mileage?
