• Alfa Romeo (2004) 156 1.9 diesel. - Diesel engine (Alfa Romeo 1.9) in 'limp mode' 8 Jun 2014 (Forum)
  Car running perfectly, parked up at shop, on return engine started but refused to run above 1250 revs. It staggered back to the house emitting some smoke.  Message on screen "go to dealer" but that's not easy when there's not a (reliable/competent) one within a reasonable distance.

  Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the cure. Another problem is If it is the clutch plates, I presume this would not be covered under the 3 year warranty and will be costly. If anyone has succesfully got the repair done under warranty, can you tell me which VW dealer repaired  the car, the golf was bought from new and has done @ 26k and driven only by myself.

  Car purchased 31st May 2012.  I've done 4872 miles to date. The Service Indicator tells me (as expected) that the first service will be end of May 2014. However, it is now showing an Oil Change due at the end of May this year.

  Yet another member of the EPS Club ! Recently bought a 2nd hand FSI S 1.6 (Jun 06) with 9,000 on the clock (an ex-mobility car) from a local (reputable) dealer in East Sussex. One month into use and apparently not covered by the dealer's 6 month's warranty, the EPS light goes on. Local VW main dealer in Tunbridge Wells (Motorline) most helpful and sympathetic but advise that major costs would be involved to replace the offending unit.

  My car insurer requires proof of all convictions, etc. over the last five years to renew my cover. I have only ever committed one offence, this being an SP50 on a motorway in early December 2006., with the SP50 therefore expiring in January 2010.
• Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI 08 model - smoke from behind the engine 25 Oct 2012 (Forum)
  I have got a slight smoke problem coming from behind the engine and is getting into the car.  Have checked the exhaust system and all is ok.   Smoke appears to be coming up from the rear of the rocker cover by the air filter. I think that the smoke is oil related (rather than diesel  / exhaust).

  But although there were loads of insects around, including dragonflies practically the size of hang gliders, they didn't end up all over the car. Answer, anyone?

  On autotrader there are about 7 times as many Passats for sale in this price range as A6s. Before anyone suggests a petrol car, I do cover around 20,000 miles a year, so I'm happy to view the ££ save each year would be my nest egg incase anything diesel related goes wrong. And I do need an estate. I'm looking for suggestions of other estates I should perhaps consider, preferably from people who have actual experience of the vehicles.

  I HAVE A 56 RAV4 DIESEL MANUAL THAT HAS COVERED 43,000MILES - I HAVE NOTICED PARTICULARLY FIRST THING IN THE MORNING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM CHANGING GEAR -  IF IT IS VERY COLD THE GEAR LEVER IS VERY STIFF UNTIL THE CAR IS MOVING & THE OIL WARMS UP - WHEN YOU CHANGE GEAR PARTICULARLY WHEN CHANGING FROM 1st TO 2nd GEAR IT SOMETIMES GRAUNCHES - THE MAIN DEALER WHO SUPPLIED IT IN NOVEMBER IS TAKING IT IN OVERNIGHT NEXT WEEK BUT I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT HE WILL 'FIND' ANYTHING - HE ALSO SAYS THEY CHANGED FROM FULLY SYNTHETIC SHELL GEAR OIL TO A NON SYNTHETIC ONE TOYOTA RECOMEND AS SHELL SYNTHETIC WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS!

  (N Reg, 8 Valve) The car starts with no problems but after 10-15 mins when it is warmed up, the ignition just cuts off. Preliminary tests done show that there were no signals going to the fuel injector and to the HT transformer.

  hi, i have a 1998 mondeo diesel, it has been very reliable and has covered 126000 miles. recently it has developed a loud knocking/clattering noise from the engine when starting from cold . when i press the accelerator there is no response for about a second and then the engine will run as normal. when coming off the revs and when it settles into tickover the knocking will come back, but as the engine warms up the noise will gradually quieten down and disappear. the car will then run fine throughout the day, and when left for a few hours will continue to start and run fine with no problems. the knocking only happens when left for several hours, or overnight.

  The HT lead to the front passenger side spark plug on my 2.5 v6 is breaking down and I want to replace. Although I have done other work on the car including replacing the spark plugs and cam cover gaskets I have no experience of DIS ignition systems. So bear with my simple question. Does the old HT lead pull off the dis unit and is the new lead a push fit and just pushed on similarily to the lead being pushed on to the spark plug .

  hello there, i am new to this forum and i have a problem, my companyy car is up for renewal and i like the 320i touring but i am concerned on what rough range i will recieve out of a tank? I cover the whole of the uk with my job and 70% i am on the motorway. Work will pay me 16p per mile for petrol.

  Before anyone suggests that I just avoid those areas covered by this my wife is disabled so we will need to go into the centre of the towns and cities as using public transport is not an option. And we thought our lot was bad when it came to emmissions!

  Happy days ;-) I used nothing else for years and then moved on to Duckhams 15w40 for later cars. I wonder why the brand name seems to have more or less faded away?

  Also it says that another cause of the bad smell is if the engine has mechanical problems - what do they mean by this and how can I find out ? The engine has covered about 78 000 miles and is a 1999 model
• Audi A3 + S3 (2001 - 2003) - 03 1.8T EPC warning light after jump start 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
  It had a fault with the factory-sit radio which was draining the battery so I had that fixed under extended warranty but 2 weeks later the battery went flat so i had the AA jump start it and now the radio is completely dead (sure that'll be covered under parts guarantee) but the EPC warning light has come on and stayed on. The rest of the car seems fine, no loss of power etc. Would the radio fault cause the EPC warning light? Best regards, Gordon

  Breakerless ignition - I still don't really see where the spark comes from! Is there an electronic box somewhere that could be getting damp? Under the cracked plastic cover over the wiper motor? Should I risk cracking it up more to investigate? Can anyone help?

  Is anybody are of a common issue with the front suspension of the Focus? A friend of mine who has a different make of car has replaced the suspension drop links to resolve a similar issue. Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.
