Hyundai i20 - Hole in seat - Watkins247

Bought new from main dealer at end of October, noticed small hole in back of drivers seat.Told they would sort it under warranty, now getting the run around, alsorts of excuses, twisted seat frame, cover made in China seat in India or vice versa.Been told to just put some super glue on it to stop it getting worse.Just want to get it sorted out properly.

Always had MG/Rover before problems always sorted quickly, and kept informed.

Would never buy Hyundai again, customer service seems to be non existant.

Any suggestions how to get this matter resolved. What options do I have, wish I had rejected the car when I first saw it and not trusted the dealer to get it sorted.

Thank you

You will not buy again because of a small hole in the seat? buy some fabric glue from ebay(£0.99) and stick a small patch over it. Is it worth your while getting angry and wasting your time?

I miss the days where people use to be more resourceful and moan less.

I would not buy again because of poor customer service,if they can't put simple things right hate to think what would happen with something more serious.I suppose being without a car for a few weeks would be OK with you also.Had it been a used car I agree I would have patched it, but you buy new to avoid imperfections.

I disagree people complain and moan far less now than they use too thats why standards are falling as a lot of people are willing to accept faulty goods and poor service.

Hi Watkins.

I agree that the seat cover on a new car should most certainly not have a hole in it, however small.

If it were me I would e-mail the manufacturer, copying the dealer, stating that the dealer has already said it would be fixed but that they are now renaging on their promise.

I would not let the experience put you off buying another Hyundai as £ for £ they (+ Kia) are the best cars on the market.

Can I also guess that your problems with MG / Rover were likely to have been of a more severe nature?

Good luck

worth mentioning this over at http://www.hyundai-forums.com there do seem to be lots of problems with seat fabric on i20's, fraying, pulling apart etc. although they do seem to be fixing them if mentioned before the 1st service they dont seem to be doing much after that. get some pictures dont with a good digital camera and email them to hyundai. good luck.

Only major problem I have had with MG was the fuel pump problem with my ZT,sorted with in 24 hours and actually a BMW part. Other issue on purchase needed full 4 wheel alignment pulling slightly to left, door gaps very slightly out,and one of the speakers crackling. Also had MG badges replaced due to imperfections.

The ZR which I exchanged for the Hyundai, battery failed after 3 months, rear wing not quite fitting right, noisey passenger door lock, and gear knob kept coming off replaced twice.

No problem took more than a couple of days from reporting to being fixed.

Yes, ModelT, oh how we yearn for the good old days when people bought a brand new car, found a hole in the seat and got out a tube of glue and fixed a patch on it and never thought of mentioning it to the dealer.......... NOT!

You've not bought a new Hyundai lately have you? Or any new car lately? Are you telling me if you found a hole in the seat of YOUR new car, you'd glue a patch over it?

As it happens I HAVE bought a couple of new cars from Hyundai. Their Customer Service helpline service is NOT one of the most helpful organizations in the world and I speak from experience (and I am being polite here).

I see some tripe served up here in the way of advice and information and (in my opinion) your advice is a classic example.

It must just be your dealer, can I ask have you tried another one nearby ?

The reason I say this as when I had to use our local dealer for my wife's Hyundai the Lincoln dealer wasn't very good, never phoned back and we had to chase everything.

So we moved and used the Worksop branch, far better had light switch replaced and a set of delaminated alloys. There servicing was also cheaper and Lincoln wouldn't price match.

Phone around it can make a difference, they might be the same make but the people at some dealerships are more customer focused.

If you buy a car with a fault it should be sorted, if the dealer agrees and then changes his mind I think that would tell me that dealer does not deserve any more of my money in his tills. Take it elsewhere, all makes have good and bad, you have found a bad one.

With regards to glueing it I agree it should be on the list of rediculous suggestions, why should the OP bodge a repair on a new car, clearly some people post on here just to see how others react, and I have reacted.

As other people have said, try another Hyundai dealer. Don't be fobbed off and agree to wait til the first service is due. If the seat cover is damaged, no matter how seriously, the warranty should cover the replacement.

You really only have one Hyundai dealer near you? The majority of Hyundai dealers are very good, seems you picked a bad one. Why didn't you go to another dealer?

4 months of that wait is your fault in my opinion.
