  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Secondhand: age v mileage 31 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Low mileage older car v higher mileage newer car? I'm after a secondhand mondeo for £3-£5000 I require an automatic and the choice isn't anywhere near as wide as for a manual where I live. I'm thinking of driving out to see a 2.0 lx on "56 plate" (which I was told is 2006/7) it has done 52.000 I am assured that it is in very good condition but isn't that mileage a bit high for the age?
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 01 1.9 Replaced serp belt. Now slipping. 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)

I have the modle with automatic adjuster and power steering with no air con. I got the belt fitted fine. checked it all over turned the engine over but hand to make sure the belt was ok and it was. Went to start the van and the belt started to slide off and then it stopped so now the belt is half on half off.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 99 1.3 'Click' and nothing else!! 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The lights on the dash came on as usual and the sterio works but no life in the engine. It is the automatic 1.3 gx (K11) so as far as i am aware i cannot 'bump' start it. Anyone out there got any ideas? I have looked around and have come up with the idea that the starter motor may be 'locked' but am hoping this is not the case as i have had no problems at all starting her before this morning and would not have thought it would just 'lock' up like that.
  • Rover 45 (1999 - 2005) - 00 1.8 Never starts first time/stalls on Drive 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have a year 2000 Rover 45 Automatic which I bought 18 months ago. It?s suffered from the same fault since I bought it: it rarely starts first time, needing between 2 and 10 attempts to turn the engine over before it will start. Then, once the engine is running, it stalls as soon as I put the car into Drive.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 - Central locking problem 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Yet another problem (sigh)W Reg ford Focus when i press the button on the key fob to lock the doors you here the locking sound followed by the opening sound, for some reason the car wont lock when i press the key fob (it did last week when i bought the car) it just automatically repoens itself, it does exactly the same when i use the key in the drivers door, the only way i can lock the door is by using the passenger side lock, i guess this does not immobalise the car ,i have just bought a new battery for the Key fob but this has made no difference, can anyone please help me (again)?
  • Nissan Micra (1983 - 1992) - 1988 1.0 Seized brakes - Tricks to get car moving 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My brakes are seized (1988 Nissan Micra 1.0 Automatic) Car has been sitting off road for nearly 5 months, regularly used before then. Engine is not a runner as I'm changing headgasket & haven't finished. I need to move the car in next few days. I've released the handbrake, car is on a very slight gradient, tried to move it, push it, bump it, but it's not budging !!!!
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 02 2.0 rain sensor wiper judder 16 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I have a rain sensor on my 306 estate which varies the speed of wipe with the severity of the rainfall. There is a specific switch position to operate the wipers in automatic mode. The problem is that when the wipers go to the park position they judder over the final 30degrees or so of the sweep - most annoying! This only happens when in auto mode, NOT when you switch off the wipers from any other mode(ie not from fast, normal or wipe once).
  • Please help me finding a banger 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am looking for an automatic banger for my wife who is still learning to drive. It won't go more than 5 miles from our house [her office is 4 miles from home]. As long as it is legally drivable [ie has MOT] any car will do.
  • Toyota - Liteace 94 2.0 not changing gears 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
    Now we have it home the engine runs ok but no transmision. Has it got a safe mode on it, because its an automatic and is stuck in third gear when we put it in drive. We have spent a small fortune and are at our wits end and still no go. Thankyou to anyone that can help us get mobile once more. {Post slightly reformatted, following SL's comment below}
  • Audi A3 Sportback (2004 - ) - 2007 1.6 Restless ride 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
My 6 months old Audi A3 1.6 special edition automatic has what I can only describe as a restless ride, which is very tiring. To date the car has covered less than 2k miles because it is uncomfortable to use. The car I test drove at a local dealer had a firm but steady ride and, I have owned 3 VW's before this so I am used to a firmer ride quality.
  • Automotive OCDs 11 May 2008 (Forum)
I always try to park with the front wheels in the straight ahead position unless on a steep hill when I will point them to the kerb. ( Looks tidier ) Always turn the radio off prior to turning the engine off even though it would go off automatically ( just in case ) Always turn wipers off prior to turning engine off as I can't bear untidily parked wipers Always give a door handle a tug even after remote locking ( just to be sure ) and many more.................... ;-)

  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 01 2.0 auto 24k - Change the spark plugs ? 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
World's most infantile question coming up: I now have a Honda Accord 2.0 automatic, which is 7 years old, has 24k on the clock, and has been serviced once in its lifetime. It was used primarily for short journeys and I did an oil and fluids change the moment I got it. However, the fuel economy is absolutely appalling (even for an auto), with it struggling to get 28mpg on A-roads.
  • Mitsubishi - perforation 25 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My regular car is a 2001 Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin - the baby Shogun, which works very well in London, being short , high , tough and automatic . there has been a rust blister developing for some time on the door , tight on where the window frame starts , it is about 50 mm diameter and growing . My question is : the car had a 6 year anti perforation warantee .
  • British cards in French petrol pumps 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I also found when heading back from the UK a couple of months ago that the Esso station just outside the ferry port in Cherbourg also takes UK cards in the automatic pumps. Hope this helps when planning next year's hols...
  • Pressure washer -what to look for when buying one 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Now i have a new car it will be nice to wash it now and then. Due to a stuck on aerial on the roof automatic car washes are out where they use roller brushes. Could use a hand wash places. I can't stand for long sponging the car myself. My eldest is 12 so she can't reach the high area. Toying with the idea of buying a pressure washer to wash the car with.
  • Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - clutch cable adjustment 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I changed the clutch cable on my Golf Mk2 a few months back and thought that would do the job, but I am finding that the clutch is automatically adjusting itself - only it is not meant to as it's supposed to be a manual adjustment. It is adjusted by turning a nut along a bolt to tighten or slacken the cable, but the nut seems to be making its own way along the bolt over a period of weeks (more like the bolt pulling itself back and the nut winding down along the bolt).
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - AWD -Chance to buy a neighbour's car 28 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Neighbour is buying a new Mazda CX7 and has for sale his 4 yr old Mazda 6 Sport4 - AWD 2.3 automatic estate car with 20K mls. They are almost as rare as hen's teeth - does any BR have one / had experience of in the past. If you have the TS2 model this must be similar apart from the 4WD - what are your experiences.
  • audi a4 tdi oil mist showing. 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Taken cover off and it appears to come from the fuel intake manifold (high level), what I assume is the automatic choke. Black object with linkage arm adjusting butterfly.). I removed the large diameter intake, just behind butterfly (crosses over top of engine coming from some sort of cooling/heating radiator) removing half circular spring clip first, fine oil is present inside tube.
  • Aircon efficiency over time 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a MK V Golf with 'climatic' semi-automatic Aircon and at this time of the year, often become paranoid as to whether it is working at its most efficient. I have read that one can expect the system to lose gas at up to at least 10% per annum which means that after 2.5 years use, mine could be down by at least 25%?
