  I have a noise from well worn rear tyres on a 1996 BMW tds which is similar to wheel bearing wow. My garage says is not bearing noise. but out of true (oval) tyres It is not apparent until 40mph and does not increase in volume at higher speeds.They agree that the car is not as smooth as your normal BMW but that I must live with it until new tyres are needed or change to normal rims and tyres.

  But beware, the dash display lies, it indicates 4 mpg more than the truth. 46 mpg is way better than I expected, only 2 mpg short of the BMW diesel which in truth was not as quick. Factor in the cost of petrol being 4p a litre less and the difference is approx. 0.5 mpg short of the BMW diesel. So in summary very happy.

Very quickly noticed a weird Snare drum noise when engine is cold.. Originally bmw thought it was the fan belt replaced it, then tensioners, replaced them, then finally they figured out it was the cam belt..

  Was about to order an Audi Q5, but they were such a bunch of buffooons that I didn't and I've ordered a 5 Series Touring instead, the list of faux pas comitted by the idiots at xxxx, could fill an entire gigabyte of data that we don't need to put on Honest John's lovely website. I had a bad experience of BMW when a 100K miles 3 series coupe on our fleet, shat its timing chain onto the floor 100 miles after a service. I was quite prepared to bar BMW form any future business. Audi has not covered itself in glory either, we had 2 A4 cars completely immobilised by shearing of the oil pump drive, one decorated the floor in the middle of a roadworks on the M 25.

  My new parked car (BMW) that I have had since May 2020 was hit by a scaffold truck last Monday resulting in a damaged wing mirror (broken glass and cracked housing).  Using the anonymous note left on my windscreen with the number plate, CCTV footage from my house camera showing the truck going past my house and whilst not seeing but hearing the sound of impact and the power of social media, I was able to find the culprit at the weekend.

  However would find them a ittle dull externally and not as exciting to drive at the lower end (which is my price range)   So basically-I am keen to buy the BMW from a reputable online source but need someone knowledgeable to advise whether this would be an unwise decision in terms of costs. If so, I will go for something else! Any other thoughts appreciated too.

  Hi, I bought a BMW 3 coupé (2007) from the Cargiant about six months ago. The sales guy persuaded me vigorously by showing a leaflet saying things such as, this a very transparent high quality warranty governed by the Cargiant safeguarding and it is only administered by the AA.

  The downside is that the MPG is not great on the Volvo - maybe 40MPG which compared to the 51 I can get from the BMW. Anyway, my wife is changing jobs so we will lose the BMW. We will probably buy something small for her, most likely a mini as that is what she has always wanted, but the question is what to do about the Volvo.

  And I see the turbo is mentioned in the car by car breakdown on here. Mine was first registered in June 03. HJ's comments imply that BMW acknowledged there is a turbo problem, how can I find out if that was the case and whether that has any bearing on how much I end up paying for this repair? Thanks for any insight. Please bear in mind my continued lack of mechanical knowledge in case your reply gets technical!
