BMW 3-Series E30 (1983 - 1991) - Pierburg Carburettor for 318 M10 21 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I'm having trouble a getting my BMW 318 M10 to idle properly. When it's warm the engine hunts, like it cannot find its medium. I have recently had the motor overhauled and the mechanic who took it apart did not take note of where the vacuum pipes went thus I'm unable to drive the car until I can resolve this problem as too little REVS causes the car to cut out when approaching traffic lights, etc. -
BMW - My car was wrote off, I think it's still in use ? 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My BMW 318ci was 'wrote off' back in March 2009 after a small bump on the motorway. It had been snowing, and the car spun round slowly, bumping into the central reservation, then spinning again onto the hard shoulder. -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Child Safety/NCAP tests 6 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have been reading up on the NCAP tests for various cars that I have been thinking of buying (including the BMW 3 series and the Ford Mondeo). Both of these score well for child safety (39 - 4 stars) BMW - http://www.euroncap.com/tests/bmw_3_series_2005/225.aspx Mondeo - http://www.euroncap.com/tests/ford_mondeo_2007/299.aspx However, most NCAP descriptions give details of what exactly happened to the child dummies, for example with the BMW it says that "Both were well protected throughout." -
BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - 05 2.9 VERY confused about 1 Series tyre pressures 2 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I would be really grateful for some advice regarding tyre pressures for my BMW 130i M Sport (5 door). I recently had new tyres fitted and the new configuration is as follows: Front Goodyear 205/45 R 18 86 W Rear Goodyear 225/40 R 18 88 Y In order to check the tyre pressures I looked at the small plaque on the driver? -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 325i v 330d 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Would a car like the 325i need revving to get decent performance (not like a type r surely? I always hear how good the bmw 6 cylinder engines are, esp the petrols. And does a 325i have a turbo? AFAIK its a NA engine, so how does it compare to a turbo charged engine with the same power? -
BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 05 2.0 (e90) Oil service and sump nut location 8 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I've been looking at servicing my (E90) BMW , I've done various cars in the past but the BM has a slightly different set up as most of you will know! I've looked underneath the car and found a "trapdoor" which appears to house the oil sump, mine is black with a 17mm black bolt but this points straight down, unlike other cars I've had it would mean you can't use a regular ring spanner to undo the nut, can someone let me know if this is actually the oil sump nut before I undo it?! -

BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - estate engine sizes? 17 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Looking at various used car sites the vast majority of 3 series estates are 320d. The car in question is a 2005 model with 100k miles - full BMWSH. Question - did BMW make the 3 series estate in anything other than the 320d version? I am guess yes - it would seem odd not to offer a range of engine options. Price wise I don' know yet know how much he wants but I get the feeling it will be less than the dealer is offering him (we get on well and he is not short of cash so wouldn't be looking for top dollar). -
Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - 07 1.5 Oil spec. 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The under bonnet sticker says use Shell Helix, but the Shell site gives four different types "specially formulated to meet the needs of BMW/Vauxhall/VW/ etc." Why are all these produced? What would be the effect of using, say, a BMW spec in a VW? Shell Ultra Products Available in the United Kingdom : Shell Helix Ultra VX 5W-30: * Specifically formulated to meet the needs of most VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT engines * New low SAPs technology for usage with diesel particulate filters * Developed for Long Life service Shell Helix Ultra AP 5W-30: * Specifically formulated to meet BMW specifications * New low SAPs technology for usage with diesel particulate filters * Developed for Long Life service Shell Helix Ultra AG 5W-30: * Specifically formulated for Vauxhall/Opel * Long Life oil for extended drain intervals * One oil for both petrol and diesel engines Shell Helix Ultra AX 5W-30: * Specifically formulated to meet Mercedes Benz specifications -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - Autobox experience and reliability 21 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I am currently trying to find a good manual example of the BMW E39 and struggling! Most manual cars seem to be the 520 and ideally for my price range of £3-4k I would prefer a 528 or at least a 523 SE. I am looking for cars built post September 98 when the Nikasil issue was resolved and sadly most of the facelifted cars, i.e. 525s and 530s are out of my price range. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - V5 - it's with the DVLA. Should I part with cash? 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hi, a wee bit of advice required. I've agreed the purchase of a BMW 530d touring 2002 a couple of weeks ago. The reason I couldn't take the car away at the time was it was on a private plate and the owner had not completed the transfer. We struck a deal and as the paperwork was still at the DVLA (V5 along with existing tax disc), they said they would deliver the car once Swansea sent the documents back. -
Which Estate? 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
This is probably the biggest deciding factor for me as I hate losing 000's on cars!! My shortlist so far: 1. BMW 318 Touring - My BMW has been extremely reliable and reasonably cheap to run. 2. Audo A4 Avant - Recommended by a friend. 3. Ford Mondeo - Recommended by a work colleague - I had a Ford Sierra once which was a pile of rubbish, so I would need some convincing on this one! -
1996 BMW E36 Heater fault 21 May 2005 (Forum)
Hoping someone can help me here! I'm now driving a 1996 BMW 316i fitted with manual A/C that my family have owned from new. We've never had any noticeable heating problems with the car or any bother with the cooling system. However, the heater seems to have stopped blowing warm air, at best I'm able to get some lukewarm ait through if I turn the temperature dials (it has two) to maximum. -

Hi all, Thanks for everyones previous assistance on this site, I always review articles here hoping not to have to write my own again - but here i am :( I am having starting troubles with my BMW 316, 1996. I just had the starter and the battery and the alternator checked (I had a dodgy connection between battery and ignition unit causing everything having to be checked over!). But I now have starting trouble again. -
