have you tried phoning the DVLA? - They do take phone calls; I've done it before when a previous V5 went 'missing' - the seller 'forgot' to send it in.

it seems the other party are being difficult. it may not be their fault but you shouldnt have to suffer.
if you feel annoyed then get your deposit back and walk away.
|
|
You did (or have seen) an hpi (or equivalent) check though didn't you? If not, perhaps irrespective of DVLA delays, isn't that a risky proposition in itself?
|
Yes the company that did the inspection did an HPI and it was clear. The vendors are dozy but not offensive. All their stories add up. The car is sound and in good condition. I would be reluctant to walk away at this stage.

Have you tried ringing BMW (either their contact centre or the car's local garage) & checking the service history etc. I did this once for a prospective purchase (didn't buy it in the end) & they were most helpful - details of service history, mileage points & garages used etc.
It might not affect the DVLA issue, but would give you more confidence about the car maybe?
|
Just sit tight - have been in the same position myself and your best to wait or if you want it quickly insure the car with some like Swift Cover for which you can change details online and print a new docs off and they don't charge extra for the pleasure.
|
Just spoke to BMW who confirmed that the car had a full service history to 40K with BMW. This is in line with what the seller says. After that there is a history with an independent which I cannot verify for now but I am confident ties up.

if they did the plate transfer through leeds it normally comes back in a few days with the confirmation slip and a covering letter to allow you to make the new plates up at a number plate maker (ie no log book so you need this slip v948) have they got that then? as it dont come from swansea see but leeds
the log book will indeed come from swansea see but is usually not far behind
you havent phoned swansea see ,why not as said this would be my first call

There's another thread on here about DVLA... they are really efficient these days.
Did a full tour a few years back and impressed. Gave an example of someone going to photo license and losing motor bike entitlement.... in the basement are the microfiche versions of all paper docs. This example therefore sorted earily.
Have done tax disk and replacement licence online/phone. License turned up on a Tuesday after ordering on a Friday afternoon. Boot polish must have been working ;-) *
* They used to use a pot/tub of polish to smooth the photo ID on it's way - otherwise it stuck.

Having bought a car some months ago that involved a plate change, I can confirm the the DVLA are very slow and some say obstructive doing changes. It's almost as if they wanted people not to transfer registration numbers but buy new ones from them!!
If the car is a good deal then wait. Not going to make much difference to your life is it?
