  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - BMW write-off help! 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
He paid £10k for the car approx 2 years ago and is going to be really out of pocket if he takes this offer. He has visited a BMW main dealer who advised that to buy a similar car would cost him approx £7,200. Has anyone else been in a similar situation where an accident was clearly not their fault but they have been left out of pocket?
  • Another 'help me choose' thread 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Should I save the £8k, or splash it on the BMW, given I might not be buying again for a decade?  Given you sometimes don't get beyond the first dealer when buying a car from a list of potentials, should I start at the BMW palace or the Skoda shed?
  • BMW 5 Series - Ideas for a older larger higher mileage car? 27 Dec 2023 (Forum)
My budget is probably 7k at a stretch (due to having to buy 2 cars in one month), and I was thinking of an older higher mileage large vehicle (providing the essentials like timing chain were replaced etc). I'd be unlikely to put more than 6k a year on it I reckon. I was looking at 5 series BMWs, but would be keen to hear if this is a good idea, or what alternatives I might consider. Many thanks!
  • BMW 325i N53 Engine - Misfire 22 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Hi, We have an ongoing issue with a customers car. 2010 BMW 325i N53 Engine. Not N52 as listed. The car has had a misfire issue for a while. It happens mainly in the first few miles from cold but has a slight hesitation at times. 29CF - misfire cylinder 3 has been the ongoing fault code.

  • BMW 530D SE TOURING or AUDI A6 Avant 3.0 Quatro - The agony of choice 21 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I was all set on a Skoda Octavia 12 months old - BUT.... people have intervened and are demanding that I get a 'Gentlemens carraige" as I apparently deserve it. My dilemma is, I have identified  and driven a BMW 530D SE Touring which is great. Extras include Pro Sat nav, Sports gearbox and steering wheel, Head up display, Rear camera, Comfort seats etc on a 2010 60 plate 47,000 miles. My one reservation was the 19" alloys as I have damage to my spine.
  • BMW 3 Series Coupe - Lease/Company Car - 3 year lease too long? 17 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Having had lease cars through my company for years I had always been very pleased, including in recent years a Seat Leon (2006) and Audi A3 (2008). I then moved away from hatchbacks to a BMW 320d coupe. It was a fantastic car for the first two years, but by this point my firm had moved to three year contracts, and in the last year it felt like everything went wrong with it. It was in the garage every few weeks, although not at a cost to me it was incredibly frustrating never to have 'your' car.
  • BMW 5 Series E39 - insurance write off 17 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I recently have had an accident in my 2001 BMW 5 Series.  Car has shattered headlamp, bonnet slighly bent and scuffed/scratched, wing slightly bent and scuffed/scratched and scuffed bumper.  Car is only worth around £1,250 as a trade in on Parkers and I think it will probably be written off..
  • BMW M3 - Purchasing a car that is been sold on foreclosure 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I am being offered a Mid 1980's BMW M3 by a Garage which is owed several thousand for works carried out by the orginal owner who is now deceased several months - he passed away while the car was still in the garage undergoing work. The vehicle (one of several) was left to the daughter of the deceased man.
  • BMW 5 Series E60 - Mis-sold a car 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I bought a second hand BMW 5 series from an authorised dealer last year (07 plate). At the time the salesman infromed me the car came with run flat tyres and as there was no spare wheel or inflation device provided I assumed this to be correct.
  • BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - Dilema 28 Feb 2009 (Forum)
So, my other two thoughts are: VW Golf 2.0 GT TDI 140 Sport. Only a 10k service interval but will do over 50mpg. Naturally greater outlay than a Leon. or BMW 320d M Sport Long service intervals, will do nearly 60mpg, expensive outlay for a personal car and if you want a used one then they nearly all have 40-50k on them. or, any other suggestions welcome.
  • Used Merc, Jag or BMW for £25k? 10 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I quite fancy a Jag XJ but fuel economy seems poor. I might even step up to a Merc S class, for the luxury! I've never quite gone for the new shape BMW 5, a Range Rover is likely to be out of reach and too expensive to run. I may even end up with another E class of a similar age to the one I currently run. (and if I had no kids I would buy a 911!).
  • Recommended Transmission Fluid Supplier 1 Mar 2006 (Forum)
His MTL-P GL-4 fully-synth manual fluid is good for most Japanese manual transmissions and also meets the BMW MTF-LT (lifetime) fluid spec at a much lower cost than BMW charge. A good alternative to Castrol SMX-S too. 'AutoGlide' is a synthetic ATF for manual transmission (e.g. most MB's and some BMW's).
  • 2003, BMW 320D - Smoke! 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
This lasted for perhaps 3 miles or so, then it disappeared. Oil levels are fine. Have never owned a BMW diesel before - it seemed to pull when in all gears, and consumption (at least according to the OBC) seemed to 50+ for a 60 mile motorway journey. My only point of reference is a Merc C220CDI ? it felt as if the 320D is both faster, and definitely far more economical.
  • Advice wanted on buying BMW 325 Diesel 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi I thinking of buying a BMW 325 diesel and was looking for some pointers on what to look out for. I like the look of the model a few generations ago, say J to R reg, and my budget is more intune with these. I think it is the E36.
  • Bullet proof glass popular for new M5. 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just heard that 40 out of the 500 or so new BMW M5's coming into the UK have been ordered with the £1135 bullet proof glass option. A few things occur to me: 1)The option sounds reasonably cheap. 2)As the rest of the car presumably is not bullet proof, isn't this a bit of a waste of time. 3) The option is not listed under the "Safety and Security", or for that matter any section on the BMW website (as far as I can see) so how is it marketed. 4) Doesn't this say a lot for BMW's target market. 5) To complete their options list, as opposed to having a winter pack or comfort pack what about: i) The DD pack, safe in boot for your stash, bullet proof and darkened glass, lowered with a bass rumble to the outside world at all times. ii) The "pushy exec pack".
  • BMW 5 series 1990 E34 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
These seem nice enough (for the age - 1990, 125K miles). My only concern is the cost of parts. I realise that if I was crazy and took it to a BMW garage it would cost an arm and a leg, and that it is likely to cost more than a ford fiesta to run. However does anybody know how much more these cars cost to run, in terms of deposable parts? I imagine body panels will cost a lot, but with cars of this age, whether the part costs £400 or £1000 doesn't really matter, I am not going to buy it either way.
