I'm the owner of Mazda 6 diesel SPM CD 120TE, 89kW, 10 years old, 170k km. Last week yellow check engine light started to blink for few seconds and the engine behaved strange i.e. I couldn't accelerate the car for these few seconds. -
Used Estate Recommendation 1 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Requirements below: - Budget 15-20k - Family car as we have 2 children - Petrol as mainly driving short journeys - Prefer automatic - Preferably less than 4 years old and under 40k miles Having done a bit of research, I narrowed it down to either a Škoda Octavia Estate, Škoda Superb Estate or Mazda 6 Estate. Currently got my eye on something like these: https://www.cinch.co.uk/used-cars/make/model/details/8f6f1aba-317b-446c-b399-252b1762e8e3? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406261128806 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202405209887351 Should I be avoiding any engines in particular? -
Diesel Auto Mid 2010s 26 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Initially looked at 2015 Mondeo but Powershift problems same with all cars using DSG autobox, then came across 2015 Mazda 6, auto box seems fine but 2.2 skyactiv engine has been awfully reviewed. BMW 320d.....not sure, seems timing chain issues and expensive to maintain. Anyone got any experience of 320d auto? Toyota or Honda might be the way to go but they seem to hold their value, therefore a bit out of my budget, all a bit of a minefield!! -
Which Automatic gearbox is the most reliable? 12 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I have been looking at the following cars. Ford fiesta, Focus, C Max or B Max, Honda Jazz, Nissan Note, Mazda 3, VW Polo or Golf, Hyundai i30 or Volvo V40. Can anyone shed any light on which of these might have a reliable automatic gearbox. I will go for a car with full service history and has been well looked after. -
Any - Mpv - any with T/C auto? 17 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Now only working locally . Regarding MPVs I can only find vx zafira tourer 1.4T. The other option is mazda 5 and Honda frv which both are too old and rare. Is there any other MPVs I missed? Majority I see are with DSG or powershift. Thanks in advance. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-01-2018 Part 1 30 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Obviously diesel may fall into the sump whether or not the engine is turned on, but bear in mind that a diesel stops because fuel stops being injected, so turning it off during a cycle will be trivial in comparison. My Mazda 6 oil level rises irrespective of driving style, and DPF regeneration varies between160-230 km seemingly irrespective of driving style, so it is crazy to drive another 15km every time it wants to regenerate. -
Fords and Toyotas - which type of automatic? 20 Jul 2017 (Forum)
SLO will know this I'm sure, but all views welcome! From what I know, Volvos, BMWs, Mercedes, Mazdas, JLRs, Kias, Hyundais and most other big cars have TQ autos, and newer Hondas have CVT. Only the biggest Audis have CVT, otherwise it's DSG throughout the VW Group. Fords and Toyotas seem to vary - so which have TQ autos and which have Powershift and MMI respectively? -
Mitsubishi Mirage 2014 - Are they really as bad as the reviews make out 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The downsides are that it drives terrible and is noisy (engine and road noise). I did pass one in today and can say it looks better than the pictures suggest. A hind of Mazda 2 look about it. So what do owners think ? -
Jaguar XF - an indicated 34mpg from a 3L petrol.... 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
This compares with 32mpg earlier in the week on a trip from a return trip to Lancs - > Cambridge. The Mazda 6 2L petrol I owned previously would only do about 38mpg on a run. I shall update the 'real-life' mpg. Who says big petrol engines are expensive to run (if you ignore the £465/yr road tax...) ? -
Which 7 Seater? 31 Jul 2013 (Forum)
If I'm talked out of the Renault then I'll be looking at the Ford Galaxy/S-Max/Grand C-Max or the Mazda Takara which seem to be the only alternatives in my price range Budget is about £8000 but I could stretch to £10000 if necessary -
Ford Fiesta - small, underpowered car revelation! 3 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Now I just need to find a way to talk my wife into driving the main family wagon so I can get a 1.4 one of these, or a Mazda 2! -
Buying advice - small family car, around 6k 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I'm looking to replace an aging Fiat Punto as my wife is pregnant, expecting our first child in July. I have had my eye on a Mazda 3 1.6 diesel as they seem to get good reviews and offer good MPG. I was also looking at a 2005 VW passat 1.9 TDI but I have heard that these have had reliabilty issues. My budget is 6k and I'm basically looking for something that will offer good mpg and is cheap to run, also safe and spacious. -
Mazda5 or Ford S-Max 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Hi All Our family is expanding and we are looking for a larger car. I've always had a penchant for Japanese cars, especially Mazda and am considering the 5. I also like the look of the S-Max. We don't need 7 seats on a day to day basis, but the extra space would be very useful on the reasonably frequent trips with extended family and friends. -

Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6 W201 (1986 - 1993) - Something for a trip around Europe? 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Can't be anything too ridiculous as I'm twenty-one and I don't like paying insurance companies too much money. Budget not more than about £2,000 as I want to keep the Mazda! Any thoughts? Many thanks, Will -
£60 & 3 points would have been cheaper! 6 Nov 2008 (Forum)
BBC Reports A man has admitted perverting the course of justice by taking photographs of his registration number on another car to attempt to escape a road fine. Richard Scott Kirton, 26, of Braunton, Devon, jumped a red light in his red Mazda MX-3 in September 2007. He claimed a cloned vehicle with his registration had committed the offence and submitted the pictures as evidence. After pleading guilty, he was given an eight-month suspended sentence and told to pay £1,100 in fines and costs. -

Speed limits for light commercials. 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I've just read HJ's road test of the Mazda pick up, something he mentioned about speed limits has confused me slightly. Can anyone confirm what i believe please. HJ mentions that a 2WD commercial pick up would be limited to 50mph on UK A roads, yes i'd agree with that. -
Citroen C5 II (2008 - ) - HJ's Road Test 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
We are facing ever increasing road congestion throughout the world, so it must be more important to improve urban consumption by way of reduced weight and increased efficiency, rather than a massage the figures for dubious extra urban figures which are impossible to achieve. Mazda are obviously the leaders in this idealist concept and I hope they do really well. It's a shame that Citroen have produced a car that is heavier that the Rover SD1 3500 V8.
