Main dealer import nightmare 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The reply I received went along the lines of: " Sorry sir...we've checked our system and I'm afraid that your car appears to be an import (which wasn't known by us when we sold you the car). The original owner who part exchanged the car with us signed a declaration stating that the car wasn't an import but we have since found out from the original main dealer (DEALER 'B') who supplied the car that it was an import.....so you do not have the balance of the 3yr warranty" I've complained to the General Manager at the dealership who has agreed to honour the remainder of my warranty but I am now stuck with an imported car when I was told at the time that it was a UK car. -

Are used imports safe? 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Ok, so my hubby has now set his sights on a Nissan Terano 93 2.7L TDcI - it looks incredible and we've checked the "Whats good/Whats bad" etc. The only thing is, its from a company that imports international vehicles - this one comes from Japan. Should we be aware of anything regarding this? Its an "N" Reg - does this mean its actually older that this but has been in the country since "N", or do they backdate number plates? -
Imports at auction 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My local auction had a sale of Japanese imports the other day, 4x4s, people carriers, sports etc. Some of these had SVA certificates, others did not, all had no MOT and were straight off the ship, unregistered in the UK and sold as seen. They were all going for low prices- has anyone on here bought a car in this way? -
Honda Prelude Import 10 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I have just acquired a 1993 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Automatic which is a japanese import on L reg. The speedometer is marked up to 180 kmh max which works out as 111mph. I understand japanese cars (and motorbikes?) are restricted to this top speed. Is there a way of derestricting the Prelude? -

K-Series anti-freeze 10 Sep 2004 (Forum)
In view of the recent discussions on the importance of a good cooling system to protect the head gasket on the K-series, is the choice of AF important? I tend to use Halfords AF (which has the relevant BS number) on my cars. -

The renewal policy is also a good bit more expensive than in previous years. Does anyone know of any other insurers I can try who will insure grey imports possibly on an agreed value basis. Thx ! -
"import" car. 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Now, the car has 1 previous owner (I would be the third) it all looks excellent until I ring bmw, who say the car is an import. I investigate further and it turns out a dealer in Germany had sold the car to a UK induvidual based in scotland, this car then found its way to a private dealer in scotland and the car was sold to an induvidual in London. -
Golf 1.6se 10 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've got the above (March 2002), an import to UK spec with 6000 miles on the clock in metallic paint. Any ideas on what I could sell it for and should I focus on the private buyer? I'm not too sure on what I should ask for it as it's an import. -

Will the Italian MOT be OK for when I get it off the ferry? Can I get it insured when it's registered in Italy on the promise I'll register it as imported when I get to the UK? Thanks in advance. -
Volkswagen Passat - Import to UK - Xenon Headlights requirements 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Hi all, I am importing my 2007 VW Passat 3.2L 4M into the UK. I currently have Xenon Headlights, does anyone know if there is a requirement to adjust the beam on those headlights so they are UK compliant. Because the car is less than 10 years old, putting light deflectors is not sufficient for DVLA. -
Grey Import Goodyear Tyres 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I bought two goodyear f1 tryes yesterday from a well known supplier, i however became a bit suspicious when i noticed they were made in thailand, as i remember there being issues in the past with grey imports from thailand, i contacted goodyears technical dept in birmingham who confirmed F1 tyres manufactured in thailand should not be used in the uk due to the compound being unsuitable for uk conditions, and that the only F1 tyres that should be on the market here are tyres manufactured in germany, i have contacted the supplier and hopefully the issue will be resolved, be warned Slight tweak to subject header -
First MoT 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
When he enquired of the DVLA when the first MoT was due he got the answer of '3rd birthday of UK registration'. Is this correct? Is it because it was viewed as a 'new' car when imported into the UK, despite the 3 month delay? Logic says it should be the date of of first use that counts, or what is to stop you doing a world tour before returning to the UK with a personal import? -
Subaru Impreza Import remapping 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine has bought himself a 96 Import impreza STI. These in japan, run on RON 100 unleaded fuel, the nearest we have is RON 97 unleaded. He has been advised against octane boosters as these in time will damage the cat and don't really do alot. -
Imports 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Whoops! I made a mistake in my query about imports in my message dated 2nd April. I quoted Onesearch when I should have said that I had received a quote from a firm called www.oneswoop.com Their spec is exactly the same as a car purchased in this country and I would save obout £2,360.
