Beware of servicing and parts costs

Bought the car pre-registered from main dealer with 20 miles on clock.
It has been very reliable, comfortable and economical over mixed driving First two services carried out by main dealer at almost £400 a time! Since the warranty is 3 years on all but engine and transmission I decided to get the first MOT done early to see if any problems showed up. Good job I did - advisory on one rear shock absorber. I then had an "independent" carry out the 3 year service, to save money and the inconvenience of a 25 mile journey to dealer. He confirmed leaking shock absorber and noticed the other side rear was starting to leak. Back to main dealer and Subaru agreed to replace only one which was done.I asked what the price would have been - £575 plus labour. I was always taught you replaced suspension components in pairs and surely they should not start leaking at 20,000 miles. - non of it off road. I now face the prospect of having to pay for the other replacement in the near future. Yes I may have got a goodwill offer if I'd continued having the services carried out at main dealers but may not.
A great car but make sure you need it's qualities because you may pay dear for them.
