Very solid all-rounder and worthy of consideration! Just a few gripes though...

I have owed my X1 for 5 months and covered 5.5k Miles/9k KM in Ireland where I live.

Overall I’m very happy with the car and give it a 4 out of 5. Some of my favourite things are that it looks great, it’s very well proportioned, it’s small and agile yet spacious and roomy inside and works well as a family car for weekend and short breaks with our two young kids. It drives and handles very well with the xDrive system, has a great driving position and excellent seats (I’ve had serious back problems including surgery and these sport seats are amazing). It’s well equipped, standard things like Sat Nav, electric tailgate and push button start are great. There are some thoughtful touches like interior and exterior lighting, hill start assistance with a clever braking system and a reassuring collision warning/braking system. The solid roof rails have come in handy, I am using a roof box and 2x bike carriers on our holidays this week. It’s also reasonably good value, you get a lot for your money and it’s not much more expensive than equivalent non-premium makes/models if you get a nearly new one as I did.

I do have some gripes however. I had hoped for better fuel consumption having done my research. I’m getting an average of about 6.5l/100 KM or 43MPG with mixed driving, it can be much worse on short city type drives and in cold weather. A full tank gets me 690-750KM to the warning light coming on, a refill is around 45 litres. ECO-Pro mode doesn’t get anywhere near the suggested consumption gains and is almost pointless. Road noise on the 18in factory fit Bridgestone tyres is significant. They are also wearing quickly, the front tyres are nearly fully worn after 19k KM (12k Miles), I’m disappointed with this. The iDrive infotainment system is solid overall, however streaming from spotify is fidgety, you need to connect via USB and mess around with a ConnectedDrive app. It’s annoying that entry level cars have Apple Car Play and this doesn’t.

So in summary I would recommend this car and am enjoying owning it so far, though I don’t know if it’ll be a long term partnership and I do find myself continuing to ‘window shop’.
