BMW 3 Series Coupe (2006 - 2012)
330d Sport Plus Auto 2dr
Brilliant all rounder
I owned this car for a full 2 years and regretted selling it ever since. The car was brilliant to drive, quite economical, achieving 35mpg around town and 42mpg on the motorway, and it was a real looker! With my private plate on, it was hard for people to believe it was a 2011 model. It was thrilling to drive in all weather, had a lot of fun in the snow (surprisingly only getting stuck once) and was a treat on the country roads. The 6-cylinder engine was really smooth and the car never let me down in the 2 years I owned it, doing around 20,000 miles per year.
The back 2 seats were comfortable for most people that sat in them and I never had issues with the boot space. With the back seats folded down, I could fit 2 large suitcases and 2 small ones, perfect for me and missus when going on holidays. I moved on to an RS3 after this car (which was a monster of a car) but I still missed my brilliant 3 series which really showed even a diesel can be fun to drive as long as it’s a BMW!
Downsides: if you want to look after your car properly, by using genuine parts then it can get expensive. Each run-flat tyre cost £200, and when I got pads and discs done all round, they were £800 in total - using genuine parts and labour rates of a BMW specialist. I have owned many cars since as I get bored easily, but my best car has to be the BMW 330D coupe. In the sport plus trim line it looked absolutely beautiful.
