Shortlist for 2015 European Car of the Year Announced

The shortlist for the 2015 European Car of the Year (COTY) has been published. The seven contenders are:

Citroen C4 Cactus

Ford Mondeo

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Nissan Qashqai

Renault Twingo

Volkswagen Passat

These were whittled down from:

BMW 2-Series Active Tourer

BMW 2 Series Coupe

BMW i8

BMW X4

Citroen C1/Peugeot 108/Toyota Aygo (assessed as same car)

Citroen C4 Cactus

FIAT 500X

Ford EcoSport

Ford Mondeo

Hyundai i20

Infiniti Q50

Jeep Renegade

KIA Soul

Lexus NX

Lexus RC

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe

Nissan Pulsar

Nissan Qashqai

Nissan X-Trail

Porsche Macan

Renault Twingo

Skoda Fabia

Smart ForFour

Smart ForTwo

Subaru WRX STI

Members of the COTY jury are sponsored by publishers and gain exlusive first drives of the cars. Each country's jury self-selects incoming members. The age limit for COTY jury members is 65 and they must be engaged in motoring journalism. The excellent Matt Prior of Autocar is the latest UK jury member.

The World Car of the Year is voted by a different jury.
