Has anyone had any experience of fuel catalysts such as the "Broquet" or magnetic devices like "Gainex"? The websites for these products are very convincing but are they any good? Read more
I've just realised, due to social commitments, weather and the hours of darkness it's been well over a month since I last took the bike out.
I'm away for Xmas so it will have been left a total of two months in the freezing garage without use.
Is it worth taking the battery out and popping in on my *8amp* charger for a while?
I'd like to take it out for a 2-3 hour blast but there simply won't be a chance. Read more
Why don't you just disconnect the battery, let it stand and give it a gentle charge just before you want to use it again? Okay so it may not be the ideal solution but I doubt that two months is going to wreck it beyond use.
I've been meaning to upgrade the headlight bulbs on my Xantia for sometime now and after reading a few reviews and threads on this site, went and bought a pair of Philips Vision Plus (H1) for £19.95 from "powerbulbs.com"......... I'll cut to the chase -
Should I upgrade the Main beam or dipped beam bulbs? Which would be the most effective ?
I've only bought one pair of bulbs and don't want to spend another 20 quid. My initial thoughts are that the main beams would be the most effective.

I really cant see what all the fuss is about ie. fitting brighter bulbs. Some types of brighter bulbs do seem to cause dazzle to other motorists and possibly encourage people to drive faster which can be highly dangerous on country roads. If you keep your headlight lenses clean and your prescription glasses (if worn) up to date, I cant see what the problem is. Although I do accept that the lights on certain vehicles seem to be very dim. They look like parafin lamps! Are these night vision glasses any good?

Hi,
Just a quick question:
Has anyone got any tips etc for how long/what to do while bedding in the Ibiza Cupra (new). Mine's arriving soon and I just want to know how long I have to wait til it loosens up... :-) Read more
Check out the RPM section on www.richardsons-group.com if you want uprate your SEAT......
Why since the police reconise that taigating is a bigger threat to safety by far than speed on its own, can't a system be devised that would simply read speed, distance between vehicles, and "snap" the tailgater?
I know I could not get caught - I don't do it. Obviously the space around you, ahead, at the side and importantly at the rear is your safe zone. Read more
In Germany they already have 'tailgater traps' on some autobahns. You can see them by the two solid lines placed across the outside lane at approximately 5m apart, usually just under a bridge. Exactly how they work, I don't know - is anyone else in the forum familiar with these devices?
My bother in law is seriously thinking about buying a ten year old Dodge Day van imported from the states. It has 5.7litre engine, electric bed etc - but are they a good long term buy?
They will use it to drive around London and for holidays with their two kids. I have warned them about the fuel consumption - I reckon 18mpg at very best. They have been told that parts are very cheap and it is almost rust free - anything else they should be wary of or check?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I think they are paying around £3,800 - they are satisfied that the present mechanic owner has looked after it and they are thinking of converting to gas......
many thanks Read more

It *is* Christmas. Almost...
I walked into a local supermarket (Edeka) and saw a Punto taking pride of place .0% finance 6 speed box, clima, electric everything.for 5000ukp or lease for 100ukp a month including tax insurance and all servicing.Rover 75 under 10000ukp and fully loaded mondeo estates for 11900ukp.They have removed Daewoos because they cannot find anywhere to get them serviced or repaired Read more
I do hope that the playing field allows for specialist dealers to continue, and that the public is prepared to pay a wee bit more to get the service. I have spent many years in sales up till 1994, and think the customers got a good deal. We at least had a fair bit of product knowledge of our own cars, and good and bad points of competitors too. If you ask the technical spec of white goods or electricals, (TV, Stereo etc), the sales people do not have a clue.!
Experts would be comfortable to buy purely on price from anywhere, so a car could be bought by them in a vending machine.
Now there's a thought.........could make a mint......tap in credit card details, press B9 and bingo..

Mike
A statement in the German press this weekend says that it looks like Daewoo is a dead duck in the European market and will not import anymore.I would think their value is about nil now. Read more
Time to buy then.
engine starts ok ,runs then for no apparent reason cuts out,-will start again straight away, does this without warning quite often when slowing at road juntions.most things have been checked with no sucess ,any help ? Read more
we had the same problem with the citroen BX, but it disappeared when we got a new ignition coil fitted (i bet the problem will come back, now that i have mentioned it)
Having read the two selby rail crash threads I was suprised at the number of people defending this mans actions, with such remarks as "We have all done it" and "He was unlucky, in the wrong place at the wrong time" etc. I would like to make the following points:
1) Only an idiot would stay up all night on the internet then set off on a long journey the next day without any sleep. A lot of people who posted said they often went long periods without sleep because of having to work long hours, but Mr Hart was not working, he was talking to some woman he had not even met before!
2) Despite the other contributing circumstances such as the inadequate length of crash barrier the bottom line is if he had got some sleep the night before ten people would still be alive today.
3) Even with all the evidence leading to one conclusion he continued to protest his innocence rather than face up to what he had done, something the judge may well take into account when considering his sentence.
I have no sympathy for this man, and I think he should be given a sentence to deter anyone else taking the same risk he did in future. Three years in my opinion would be a fair ammount (don't forget he would be out on probation after 18 months). Read more
Flat view, me too.
As discussed before the only way to get things posted in their proper place in the tree is to start the post from threaded view and click reply to this message unless you are already at the particular message. Posting from any other angle just dumps it at the bottom, therefore I believe you get quite a few posts in the wrong place anyway. Therefore flat view is the only way to see the chronological order.
This reminds me of the devices that claim to treat the incoming water supply to your house by magnetising the limescale molecules (or something like that). These things are shown in the adverts with a coil of wire wrapped around the pipe, connected to a 'black box'. Do these 'Broquet' or 'Gainex' devices look anything like this?
I think that for these things to work, you have to have faith. You have to really *believe*!
