  • Do all cars drive the same these days?? 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
In my opinion, all of these have been dreadful to drive compared to the cars I used to drive in the 90's, and maybe even the 80's. Can anyone recommend a medium size car that has a supple suspension and a civilised, smooth drive? Preferably not French, and pref not a Ford or Vauxhall and 3k - 4k to spend.

  • Peugeot 206 - 1.4 petrol 2001 - MOT emissions fail 14 Jan 2017 (Forum)
My 2001 206 1.4 (petrol) 73K miles has just failed MOT quite overwhelmingly on emissions: Fast idle test: CO: 7.21 (max 0.3), HC 213 (Max 200), Lambda 0.82 (0.970 - 1.030) 2nd Fast idle test: CO: 7.88, HC: 318, Lambda 0.79 Natural Idle test: CO: 7.7 Mechanic thought it would probably be the Cat (which he tells me isn't original) or one of the sensors.
  • £4.5k, which family car to keep long term? 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I have a max budget of £4,500 to spend on a used family car, with a mind to keep it long term. In an ideal world, I would really like a nice Mondeo/Insignia for comfort, space any toys. Trouble is, I only average 10-12k max mileage, mostly local driving, 18 mile round trips.
  • Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi 5 door - Long high speed cruises, comfort and not too wide 5 May 2015 (Forum)
We have a 2007 Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi hatchback, and cover about 15,000 miles a year, but half of that is done in 13 hour high cruise speed motorway blasts to and from the south of France on autoroutes - 750 miles a day on 10 days each year. We need to replace it with a comfortable car with reasonable carrying volume and max width of 2000mm to go into a narrow village street. Automatic, cruise and speed control essential, and diesel preferred as it's much cheaper in France and likely to remain so. Prefer used car, max 2 years old and budget up to £20k.

  • Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 02 1.9DCi Smoking HELP!!!! 7 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hello My car is a 52 reg Renault Scenic 1.9 dci, 112k and does not have a turbo. I was driving yesterday and suddenly when diesel engine revved up to it max, I took me foot of the accelerator and still the engine revved, to turned the ignition off, but still the engine revved. I had to stall it to stop the engine. I towed the car home and topped up the oil and water, I started the car OK, but there is a continuous stream of white smoke, again the engine revved to its max.
