  • Report: Peking to Paris, day 23 19 Jun 2013 (News)
On the second test, a rally-cross circuit of dusty dirt, he performed better, beaten only by the Porsche of Peter Lovett, who set a best time of 4:36, two seconds clear of the Leyland, with the Killingsworths in their Holden third, and the newly-refreshed Porsche 356 of car 49 going really well to post fourth-best time, sharing 4:54 with the Lancia, and the Finn’s in the Volvo two seconds down on 4:56. Mike Reeves in the Ford V8 was best performing Vintageant, beating the red Chevy of Phil Garratt by seven seconds. These two test sessions proved to be terrific fun, and highly enjoyable all round. It was good to see the little Renault 4 giving it a determined thrashing, after all the car has gone through in driving days and nights from Mongolia to catch up.

  • New Aston Martin Book 7 Aug 2009 (News)
That this most British of marques thrives today is not only down to the quality and image of its cars but also the characters that have influenced its fortunes - David Brown, Victor Gauntlett, Walter Hayes, Henry Ford, Ulrich Bez - and the many other designers, engineers and craftspeople who have, over the years, inhabited the fabric of this unique company. The story of Aston Martin (and its sister company, Lagonda) is as much about personalities, politics and economics as it is about the cars themselves.

  • Look Forward to a £350 Winter Breakdown 11 Nov 2003 (News)
To protect against a donation to the local garage during the festivities, Warranty Direct is offering 3 months cover for the price of 2 on warranties taken out between now and the end of the year. For example, a 1999 Ford Focus 1.8-litre with 52,000 on the clock would cost just £37.50 for three months cover during the three hardest months of the year: December, January and February. A 1.2-litre Vauxhall Corsa with 40,000 miles would cost just £31.64 Besides covering all the conventional parts and labour costs, policyholders also benefit from 24-hour Freephone helpline, at home and roadside assistance, replacement car hire and overnight accommodation.
  • High Milers Still Auction Bargains 12 Jan 2001 (News)
When you consider that most of these cars will have done their mileage at 80mph on the motorway and hardly had time to get cold, these high mileage engines could well be in better condition than a 20,000 miler in a six year old that spent most of its life doing short runs from cold. Exceptions, as on Wednesday, were Audis, VWs and Ford Focuses, all of which are continue to attract high bids. A 111,000 mile 96P Audi A4 TDI 90 sold for £6,050, an 18,000 mile 99V Golf Mk IV Gti 1.8T sold for £12,450, a 94,000 mile 97P Golf Mk III 2.0 Gti sold for £5,025 and top bid for a 77,000 mile 97P Audi A3 1.6SE was £6,950.
  • Used Pick-Up Buying Guide: Nissan Navara 2005-2016 16 Jun 2025 (News)
.  With good road manners to back its clear good looks, useful carrying and towing capacity, the Navara was a big success for Nissan, its wide remit of appealing to business as well as retail customers seeing it offered with a wide range of trims.   Initially offered in S, SE and Outlaw trims, Nissan would change the offering to include its Visia, Tekna and Acenta trims from 2010 as well as offering Platinum and Sport X into the model mix, too. None are lacking in kit, the entry models obvious from their relative lack of exterior chrome and details like roofbars.

  • Aston Martin DBR1 to go under the hammer at Monterey auction 12 Jul 2017 (News)
The win at Nürburgring also played a major role in securing Aston Martin the 1959 World Sportscar Championship victory—the first time a British manufacturer had done so. Nürburgring would mark DBR1/1’s final appearance as a Works entrant, but it would return under privateer Essex Racing Stable in both 1961 and 1962. The Aston was then sold to the Honourable John Dawnay, future Viscount Downe and Aston Martin Owner’s Club president, under whose ownership it saw considerable historic racing success in the early 1980s, piloted by veteran Mike Salmon.
  • A Grand Monday: Alfa Romeo 916 Spider 26 Dec 2016 (News)
Black leather, a good spec and Alfa's gutsy 2.0-litre Twin Spark engine add further appeal - the Twin Spark is actually the better option in the Spider, as the V6's extra weight adds to the body flex inherent of cars without a roof. If we were buying a GTV, we'd go V6 all the way, but in one of these, not so. The MoT history is interesting.
  • Skoda Fabia vRS (2003-2007) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The 131PS is certainly enough but what makes the Fabia vRS such a good car is the sheer torque – 310Nm to be exact and famously more than a Porsche Boxster S of the time. The fact it was fitted with a six-speed gearbox as standard was unusual at the time, and means you rarely have to work the engine hard, instead you can leave it in gear and let the grunt propel you along.
  • Five Grand Friday: Audi A4 Cabriolet 14 Aug 2015 (News)
For £5k you're getting a lot of convertible for your money, especially when you consider that the A4 Cabriolet would have cost at least £25,000 when new. That was for a base model and this S line example has the full black nappa heated leather sports seats along with a Bose sound system. As you can see, it looks well cared for with no wear on the driver's seat or side bolster. The back seats look like they've never been sat in.
  • £2.9m for Ex-Works Racing Aston 29 Jun 2015 (News)
Also in the sale, a 1984 Porsche 911 3.2-litre Carrera Coupé, belonging to former Top Gear presenter James May, sold for £51,750, and ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 S sold for £20,700, whilst his striking 1971 Citroën Maserati SM sold for almost double estimate at £61,980.
  • Jaguar XK120 restoration project to go under the hammer 4 Jun 2015 (News)
The mileage of 51,900 is thought to be correct, and the car underwent light restoration in the 1990s. (Estimate: £8,750-£10,250). Other Jaguar entries include a 1990 XJR-S. This genuine JaguarSport car is believed to be one of only 80 still recorded in the UK and carries an estimate of £4750-£5750. Another rarity is the 1987 Daimler Double Six Series 3.
  • Royal Maserati returns home before auction 5 Mar 2015 (News)
It was then registered to Princess Aly Khan at 76 Eaton Square, London, where it now met with Maserati’s new flagship, luxury four door saloon, the Quattroporte S. The car will go under the hammer at Coys Spring Classics auction at the Royal Horticultural Society in London and is estimated at £38,000-£42,000. Chris Routledge, managing partner of Coys, said, ‘This car is one of only eight right hand drive examples produced, with just 28,300 miles and two owners from new.’ The Quattroporte remained in the Princess’ ownership for a further 25 years, during which time the she re-married to the 2nd Viscount Camrose, the former chairman of the Daily Telegraph, and was latterly known as Lady Camrose.
