  • any - Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Engine reliability 13 Jul 2022 (Forum)
However given that a lot of manufacturers have now shifted to GDI technology for their petrol engines (BMW, VW Group, Ford, Mazda, Hyundai / Kia, etc.), what do backroomers think about this? Would you be comfortable buying a car with a GDI engine, or would you stay clear of them?
  • Car which ia small and powerful for around £5000 16 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Somewhat reliable would be a bonus Prefer an Auto as the gear shifts are faster but fine with a manual Short list so far -Mazda 3 MPS -Seat Leon FR-but apparently the DSG tends to go "limp" sometimes for a second while starting off. -Seat Leon Cupra-but available only as a manual Any thoughts on this and other suggestions do add.
  • Choose an Ex Fleet Car Before it Comes Off the Fleet 28 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I am looking for a particular car, and have been for the past week or so. I am looking for a fairly common car, mazda 6. Plenty of choice on eBay, auto trader amongst others, but mainly the same cars at the same prices. I was hoping this site would be different, but I could only find the same cars and no cheaper.
  • Nice coupe around £6k 13 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Looking for a low mileage ( sub 50000 miles  ) coupe for my wife ideally under £6k We like the look of these cars :- ( on autotrader ) Toyota MR2 1.8 VVT-i 2006 £5500 Mazda MX-5 2.0 160 BHP 2008 £5500 Mercedes-Benz 1.6 CLC 160 BLUEEFFICIENCY £6400 Honda Cr-Z 1.5 IMA Hybrid Sport £ 5250 due to our age etc we dont have to worry too much about tax and mpg BUT we are worried about the maintenance on these cars over the 3 years we may have them...
  • Er..hoping for advice. - Used 7 Seater for £8k-£9k (with usable 3rd row?) 10 Apr 2017 (Forum)
My optimistic wishlist includes an occasional-use 3rd row which can fit rapidly growing teenagers over the next few years (only 12 now but growth becoming measured in MPH). Anyone have any opinions? Looking at Galaxy, S-Max, Grand Scenic, 5008, Verso, Mazda 5 and, well, anything really. Final desire is not *too* old, 2011+ if possible but that might be too much to ask :) Thanks,
  • US consumer reports - Best and worse cars in USA 8 Oct 2016 (Forum)
My son has bought me a copy of the US version of the Which magazine. Needless to say the recommended models are mainly Japanese, Honda Toyota Mazda and Subaru. German cars feature too in particular Audi and to a lesser extent BMW but very few Mercedes make the grade. No mention of French cars as they are not imported as possibly they won't stand up to the lemon laws, and one Italian small car the Fiat 500 which is considered to have poor reliability.
  • Odd happenings on Autotrader... 9 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Yesterday, I noticed that a second ad had suddenly appeared for a dealer 40 miles away with no apparent connection to the first (apart from both having a "used approved" Mazda affiliation) at the same price. Today, the original ad has been changed so it is no longer apparent who the first dealer is - in fact it suggests that it was at a Subaru centre - with no mention of the dealer's name any more.
  • Toyota Avensis 2006 - I hardly know anything about cars 13 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Does the Toyota Avensis 2006 Diesel have a DPF? The reason why I ask is because a few weeks back I bought a Mazda 6 Diesel and the dpf light flashed constantly and then the power died down and couldn't even drive it up a hill properly. Anyway i didn't want a repeat of that again, but am being told that the Toyota Avensis 2006 is a great car.
  • Any - Who's had their DPF removed? 25 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Have you encountered any problems (ecu not reprogrammed correctly etc..?) I'm giving serious consideration to buying an 06-07 plate mazda 6 2.0D and having the DPF removed as from my research this is the main problem area with this car/engine. I am aware of possible MOT complications in the future and after talking to a few places they tell me I can fit the 'original' pipe (containing DPF) before the MOT then remove is straight after without much difficulty.
  • Estate, 4x4, - Cars for tall women 10 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I'd forgotten how difficult finding a car is.  I don't fit in C3 picasso's, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi sport models.  The new Mazda 4x4 type is great, with the seat right back, but too pricey.  I'm looking to spend 8-10K max.
  • best 2008/2009 diesel without major dpf problems 30 May 2012 (Forum)
hi, i'm looking to buy a diesel around 2008 & 2009 but the more i look the more problems i seem to find, was originally looking at a mazda 6 2.0d sport but have read too many dpf issues, then looked at the vw passat r-line 2.0d but this also has a dpf, does anyone know if this engine is any good, i've read bad things about vag 2.0 diesels.
  • Any - MPG with your diesel - motorway driving 26 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Just weighing up the pro's and cons of petrol vs diesel Based on travelling 100k over the next 4 years in a new shape mazda 6 (2.2d vs 2.0 petrol) petrol @ 38mpg and diesel @ 50mpg = £3185 saving over the 100k (petrol and diesel at current prices) If this is the case i'm wondering why people are still going with diesel considering the potential problems.
  • Mileage and the subsequent panicking 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
How far can you get AFTER your fuel light comes on or your needle is at zero? This'll be akin to a straw poll of various marques.  My Mazda's fuel gauge is terrible and I am too afraid of breaking down on my commute to let it drop below 1/6th of a tank.  I nearly had a seizure on the M6 when I saw the petrol light.  Never again!
  • Manufacturers without a record of problems 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Car makers singled out to avoid include Mercedes (because of the current injector issues), Vauxhall, Renault and Mazda diesels. What cars are the polar opposite of these? In other words, which cars would Backroomers buy in the reasonable expectation that they would last a good few years and not cost a great deal to keep on the road?

  • Selling a Ka privately - thoughts 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
We've just replaced my gf's Ka with a new Mazda 2. So, we need to sell the Ka privately. It's in good nick, on a 53 plate and 57k miles, gf owned it from new and it has a full service history. We're going to have it serviced as it's due, and considering having it valeted.
  • Impreza Estate or Focus? 9 Aug 2009 (Forum)
My Mazda 323 seems to be rotting away at ever-increasing speed. I have about £9k to spend and am thinking of an Impreza 2.0R estate. I like the Subaru 'engineering' ethos, the non-mainstream image, the 4x4 handling and I think the 2.0R has enough performance for me.
  • Audi - 3.2FSI vs 3.0TDI 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I'm interested mostly in Auto transmission which in case of A4 it will be tiptronic. I tried 2.0TDI with Multitronic (CVT) but found it a bit dull compared to my Mazda 3 Sport (2.0 petrol manual). 3.0TDI is too much but 3.2FSI is much cheaper (used cars).
