I'm looking for a car to suit country roads (rural south devon) that occasionally flood. I do a fair bit of motorway driving too, and need the capacity to transport 3 passengers (all over 6ft), a golden retriever and luggage. There are a lot of cars I simply cannot drive due to the lack of allowance for long legs. Not very safe if you've got knees lodged round the steering wheel. I'd forgotten how difficult finding a car is. I don't fit in C3 picasso's, Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi sport models. The new Mazda 4x4 type is great, with the seat right back, but too pricey. I'm looking to spend 8-10K max.

Assume 4x4 is a want rather than a need?

Have you tried the current model Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner (same vehicle, different badges)?

Would certainly fit your passengers and dog. Whether it fits you depends on how you're proportioned and an only be established by trying one.

The money you want to spend would get you into nearly new territory.

Thanks for the suggestion, will check it out. 4x4 thinking was more based on the fact we live in an area of small country lanes that do flood and get icy in the winter, plus quite a few instances of nearly getting stuck in the mud when getting out of the way to let oncoming traffic pass. Having said that, we've managed so far in a C3.

Add the Skoda Yeti to your list. Look at one with height-adjustable front seats and I would think the lowest setting would be fine for six-footers of either sex..

Sounds like my kind of woman.

second the berlingo multispace/partner tepee suggestion.

Also worth checking out the Fiat Doblo which is gnerally cheaper to buy than the Berlingo/Partners and has a even larger boot.
