Sailing Dingies 18 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The weather was too beautiful, apple blossom everywhere; quite delightful. Red light ahead, so I start to pull up behind the car in front; suddenly realise that it is towing a sailing dingy with mast horizontal and pointing my way. There was a rag tied to the tip, and it was heading for ME. Those brakes were good, provided you put sufficient boot behind them, and I did. -
AX Throttle Fault 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Anyone got any ideas where to start with this one? A friend has an AX 1.0 'K' plate. It broke down and had to be towed-the fault is this (this info is second hand from the AA man to her to me so apologies for the vagueness). The car will idle but apparently when the throttle is pressed the engine won't run properly, it chugs and misfires making it undriveable. -
gift horse or money pit? 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The constant red oil warning light didnt put me off as i thought it was a result of my kerb side mechanics absent mindedness, and it was no more than the sender wire having been knocked off, after checking the dip stick, and finding the level correct, i continued driving until the van ground to a halt, a short tow back to the garage, and removal of the oil filter indicated that the oil pump wasnt working. one new oil pump and £250 further down the road and still no oil pumping. can anyone help!!!!! -
Galant engine failure 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Hello all, A guy at work has a 98 Mitsubishi Galant 2000 auto estate with 40000 miles, at the weekend the oil light on the dash came on, he stopped, checked oil level and after finding levels correct got the car towed to the main dealer for investigation. The car has always been serviced by the main dealer, last service was 4000 miles ago. The dealers workshop staff basically told him he needed a new engine as the oil pump has failed and wrecked the engine. -
meter maids... 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I wonder why they bother just slapping a ticket on - it seems matey doesn't give a monkeys... Surely in a case like this the solution is to tow the vehicle away (as I wrote, was parked on a ped. crossing) and only release it when the fines were paid... or is that just too logical? -
Sierra auto box leak 13 May 2001 (Forum)
Last week almost two years on at 89000 miles, after a 120 mile trip the front seal blew again. I have not removed the box yet so internal damage is as yet unknown. The car has never towed in its life. How can this happen!!! An experts opinion would be appreciated. Pete. -
Reconditioned turbo keeps whistling - is this normal? 7 Sep 2017 (Ask HJ)

Lexus RX 450h - Lexus Dealership 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I was realistic in my opinion in not expecting the full amount back on the Lexus, I had after all driven some 3000 miles in it, but would have expected a much more of a better deal than I got. A tow bar had also been fitted to the car, for me to tow our caravan, and borrow a small trailer from time to time to carry work rubbish away, if required. They said probably quite rightly, about selling privately, but time was not on my side. -
Should I idle my Octavia TDI before switching off to allow the turbo to cool? 5 Jan 2013 (Ask HJ)

Car blew up & and was stolen the same day I bought 13 Jul 2024 (Forum)
My wife called the police to send out highway patrol as I was in a very dangerous spot. I have an invoice from the tow truck and so on and so on. But I don't have a physical car to reject or have fixed. Thanks in advance -
Sort of. Or suggestions... - Kei Trucks 15 Mar 2024 (Forum)
We have a small trailer tent (Dandy Dart, about 350kg) that we use during the summer, so anything would have to be able to tow that. Our current second car (Renault Twingo) can't tow. I have always fancied a kei truck, since I drove a Bedford Rascal back in the day (the day being about 1997-98 in this case). It occurred to me that, with a dropside, I could potentially take the trailer tent off the full chassis (it needs new suspension) and just put it on the load bed of such a truck when required (fixed in place somehow and held in the air whilst putting it on somehow...) -

Random choice ? - Replacement (proper) 4*4 1 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Reasonable carrying capacity. Boder collie in the boot, shooting kit regularly, etc. Towing capacity. Usually only a small trailer, but occasionally a full-size Ifor Wms double axle trailer, with a decent amount of load (so about 1.5 tonnes total towing capacity) Manual gearbox. It's mainly her car, and she hates automatics with a passion. -
