7 seater advice please 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Is there some reason why they're such a poor seller? Alternatively, if I were to tighten my budget and go for an old Merc or Volvo seven-seater, which would be the one to go for? thanks, Henry B (new to this forum) -
Insurance renewal 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Mmmm (I'm also considering (as I always am) changing the car it's now 3 yrs old - and there's nowt wrong wi'it but I just get the urge. I think I've narrowed it to 1 yera old Leon Cupra or Volvo s60 2.0SE - a curios pair but both a bit different and with 180bhp) -
Posh Estates 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The Saab 9-5 is very appealing but the fact that it is a Vectra underneath puts me off.Should I give them all amiss and become a Volvo V70 driver. Any thoughts on where I should put my money greatly appreciated. I get a mileage allowance which discourages a Diesel with 10p mile. For petrol engines of under 2 litres I get 13p and over 2 litres 15p so just over 2 litres is the favourite. -
Mercedes V Class MPV - alternatives? 8 Jun 2003 (Forum)
However it doesn't seem very reliable and appears to be a van with windows. My only other thought at the moment is the new Volvo SUV which I test drove last week - very nice but not very cheap and not quite as much room as the Merc bus. Any ideas? -
A real specialist ! 1 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The garage concerned has an advert in our local rag boldy boasting: "Ultimate Sales & Service" Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Fiat, Alfa Romeo Citroen & Volvo... SPECIALISTS. It's nice to know her car's being dealt with by people who specialise in so few marques and hence really know the vehicles inside out. I'd hate to think how she'd have fared if she had taken the car to a mere 'generalist'! -
Brand Loyalty 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The actual score of the 25 cars we have owned is: Mini 2 Triumph 1 Fiat 4 Vauxhall 8 Audi 2 BMW 1 Subaru 1 Citroen 1 Volvo 2 Renault 2 Peugeot 1 So all you profilers out there, what does that say about me? -
Cambelt quality 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have done a little work on this, and come up with the following: Belt-breaker engines have 19 tooth crank sprockets (Ford CVH, Volvo B20 etc). The ?old? rectangular tooth profile is worse than the newer semicircle design. (but you have to fit the type for which the engine was designed). The best engines have 21 or 22 tooth sprockets with a 1? -
Vovo D5 oil pressure 22 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My V70 D5 (diesel) Volvo has recently developed a problem. When starting from cold in the mornings the computer displays a brief message "No oil pressure stop engine" this dissapears after about a second. I have taken it to the dealer and they changed the oil pressure sensor. -
Driving old clunkers. Why not? 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Purring along the Chester High Road at 70 mph on the Wirral last night in my 10 year old Volvo 740 SE, I wondered how a newer, more modern car would feel. How could it be better? Bob Harris on the radio, memories of grilled mushrooms with Brie and bacon as a starter, rib-eye steak, perfectly cooked by the chef at the Clegg Arms, friendly, attractive waitresses, good company, fine wine (for the others, not me, I drank a jug of water). -
Cheap Runaround for Sister 13 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Question is what would be a suitable replacement capable of occasional motorway journeys, Very cheap to run and insure and which will not attract the attention of light fingered scum ? I am thinking along the lines of: Volvo 340, VW polo saloon, Ford escort diesel. or even a Van. Cheers Dave -
Grrrrr 19 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I have learned from these columns that the term 'doom blue' has a mystic, almost preternatural connotation with the destiny of the car painted in it, and, presumably by association, that of the driver/owner. (I can never embrace the UK term "keeper": sounds like someone who works at the zoo). This Volvo was what I imagine doom blue to be, undoubtedly the reason, and I know you posters out there will now shout "I told you so!". When I lived in the Gulf, all my accountancy team used to drive Volvos. -

I need help choosing my next car... 6 Jul 2021 (Forum)
My basic requirements are: 4-wheel drive Automatic Sunroof Cruise control Lots of toys - I am a gadget fiend £500 per month Max, with £10,000 down upfront (if PCP) Must be comfortable Must be able to accommodate somebody my size I'm 6’ 4” When I go into a car selection wizard on eg Carwow I end up with about 400 different choices which doesn't help! The closest I've got to actually making it selection was the Volvo XC60 inscription pro, but I'm struggling to find the car for my budget. I have test driven BMWs Audis Volvo Mazda Ford so far – all good cars, but didn’t get on with the Ford/Mazda because of my height. -
List prices 19 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I’d still rather buy used and fund it via a low rate bank loan which is probably where I’ll go with this, better still I might talk her into the last of the previous shape with are a good bit cheaper. A Volvo XC60 it will almost certainly be however. Moral of the story seems to be, ignore list prices, they’re figures plucked from the sky. -

Low Tax band 31 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Unfortunately, due to high emissions ratings, I feel forced to sell my lovely and very reliable 2005 Volvo V70 D5 as I am unprepared to pay approx €1000 on import tax, and a further €1000 on road tax, not to mention VRT test fees. :( Consequently, as a charity worker in a very expensive city, I am now on the hunt and engaging in detailed research on how I can make a good value purchase on a cost-effective to run "family car" (estate or MPV/SUV) with no greater than "Band C". -

French reputation for rust .... no more 12 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The two things that stand out from the journey were the wonderfully comfortable and relatively quiet motorway ride (light years ahead of Dad's then new, admittedly only four on the floor, Volvo 244DL), and the appalling body corrosion (whereas family Volvos, kept for ten years and more, have had zilch corrosion). The driver's door actually already had a fist sized rust hole in the outer panel, and the tailgate lip was already a nice furry finish! -

Leapmotor - part venture with Stellantis, and sold from their sites. Geely are already familiar as parent company of Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, etc, but they’re also bringing the Geely name in its own right to get UK. Have I missed anyone?
