  • Changing a Focus headlamp bulb... 10 Jul 2007 (Forum)
We've talked about this before, but I thought it might be useful to relate how I had recently seen it performed without removing any bits other than the back cover for the headlamp unit! I changed the dip-bulb myself previously ..... but only after loosening the battery and with a great deal of cursing and misery. I took the car to my local dealer. I explained the problem to the chap on service reception and asked if I'd get on better if I removed the battery completely.
  • Winter storage of my convertible - Advice please! 30 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The paint on the whole car is going to be getting some very special polishing from a Porsche trained paint guy very soon too. Do I store it with the roof up or down, windows open or closed and do I used a cotton car cover or a breathable outdoor car cover additionally?
  • Jaguar XF - Fuel consumption 24 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Current trip reading is 42mpg & actual is 38mpg, this is measured on a brim to brim fill & divide gallons by miles driven, miles covered was 477 & 12.5gallons (=38mpg) to bring the tank to the brim. The car has so far been driven with restraint, to see how it slurps (or not) the fuel. Has any one else used this measurement as opposed to looking at the cars computer & taking the reading as being true?

The advice is to open the windows and door of your car giving time for the build up to dissipate before you enter the car. And turn on the AC acouple of minutes after getting in.

  • Vauxhall Commitment?? 19 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking at getting a Vauxhall Astra or similar sized car soon and wonder if anyone can help. Until last year we always bought Corsa's and if they broke down or if they were off the road for more than 24 hours we got a hire car free of charge. I believe it was called Vauxhall Commitment and was brought in by Vauxhall from 2000 and included a 3 year warranty and Breakdown cover.
  • Hand car washes 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I've used one in Ashton before in my old Tipo that I wasn't too bothered about, and the results seemed OK, but I've read a few things about other car washes that makes me slightly reluctant to trust the Yaris to one. This one uses some pretty big pressure washers to cover the car in some 'snowfoam' which is then rubbed over with a cloth and blasted off with another washer.
  • Scratched MGF paintwork. 8 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Catherine has a year old MGF Steptronic in Tahiti (dark) Blue. It is a well loved second car and when not in it's garage has covered only 3500 careful miles in west Scotland. Nearly every panel has fine, visible scratches in the laquer layer yet the car is rarely left unattended in a car park and is not subject to unusual attacks by road grit and scratchy hedges.
  • Car parks too small for modern cars 5 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Obviously there would still be some "small car only" spaces. but in most cases, a row of ten spots could be repainted to create nine larger spots - how hard is that? And yes, it would reduce income somewhat (many are rarely, if ever full), but a small increase in rates could cover that It is surprising to me that large supermarket carparks don't already offer a section for larger vehicles.
  • LandRover Freelander 2 - Land Rover ongoing costs 10 May 2015 (Forum)
I queried the warranty and was told all this work was wear and tear so no cover. After complaining finally got 10% off but really not happy given how long I know my brakes etc lasted when driving the model before so must have been very worn when they did the approved car check.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 2.0 Doubts about the service 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
This might give the impression of a car covered in grime with number plates obliterated. It's not. I've driven it all week when others were having days off work due to the bad weather and even managed to get to the garage for the service - when others didn't -in the snow and slush so to see a comment like that makes me wonder what they expected to be presented with.

  • Toyota rav4 - I'm not sure if a garage has created me 28 May 2021 (Forum)
spent £3750 on a car 6000 miles down the road and 10months my mot BILL is due AND £1300 the garage said to PASS CAR ,i looked back at the mot history and was suspect to see that mot have had advisories on every year and never been attended to or fixed to my knowledge  yet the mot that come with the car had a pass with no advisories and my new mot came  with the past history of all the years  advisories  £1300 bill all in one bundle ,all the MOT are done by the same MOT inspection garage who has covered its history who is situated next door (and why they didn't pick up at least one of advisories over the last 10 years when they did the MOT  the previous advisories had been corrected as not showing on the mot I thought, is this a honest garage
  • Ford Mondeo 2006 - Rear Tailight Housing/Leak 23 May 2021 (Forum)
I'm not keen on replacing the whole rear quarter panel of the car and it doesn't look like I can pull the bodywork back out, other than using some sort of tape to cover the gap is there anything else I can use to seal it and stop water getting in without it looking terrible?
  • Ford Focus C-max 1.6LX - Exhaust Heat Shield 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Just had one of our cars into local garage for welding to exhaust brackets, when picking car up the mechanic uttered those immortal words "I removed your heat shield it's not needed". I've come across this before and know there have been discussions about it eg: "if not needed why fit in first place" etc.
  • Lost control on roundabout 31 May 2015 (Forum)
Driving to work this morning, going round a roundabout, perhaps 30 mph, turned left to exit and completely lost control of the car which did a 360 degree spin, coming to a halt on the grass verge. Quite how I did not hit another vehicle or a lamppost I do not know. Anyway, the car is fine, albeit covered in grass clippings. I rang the local police, and they will check the road surface for oil etc.
  • KTM - Insurance Claim 22 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I asked what the claim was as i had no recollection of a motor claim, and was told it was " a trampoline hit a neighbors car" this was correct, as a storm had blown the trampoline onto a neighbors car and damaged it. The claim was settled by our house insurance, as our car insurance wouldn't cover. So when the question was asked, if i had and claims, accidents or losses or damages in the last 3 years, i took this as referring to Motor claims, not household claims....as the question never asked to disclose household claims...any help would be appreciated.
