2001 Mondeo 115 Tddi turbo surge 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
On odd occasions during acceleration the turbo becomes what might be described as 'lumpy'. It feels like the effect of a 'kick-down' on an automatic and the engine gives out a throaty noise, it will then clear itself to give a smooth acceleration and then go through the same motions again until changing up a gear. This doesn't happen if the acceleration is gentle, only when on a loaded hill climb or high acceleration during overtaking etc. -
Optimate Battery charger 8 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have been given a Optimate Battery charger to charge the battery on my CBR1000F. It has additional features to diagnose plate sulphation and automatically semi discharge/ recharge to keep the battery at 100% capacity if it is kept connected to the charger. At present the battery is out and connected to the charger which is outputing 14 Volts (about the same as the alternator). -
Focus electric windows 28 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Having read that Focus locks can be re-programmed (to automatically lock at 5 mph) I got to wondering what else can be re-programmed. For example, is it possible to re-programme the electric windows such that the front passenger window can be operated when the ignition is switched off? -
SORN and Road Tax Refund 26 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Because there's still several months road tax left, I've used the special SORN form from the Post Office instead of the annual tax renewal form. There is minimal guidance supplied with this form, so ... Will the DVLA automatically refund the outstanding road tax? Or do I have to take the tax disc to the local Post Office for a refund? Or should I have included the tax disc with the SORN form (too late now)? I am assuming the car can't be both taxed and SORNed simultaneously. -
Starting cycle. 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have a majesty 125cc scooter (automatic trans). The problem I have is that it will start first time every time. However, if I switch the scooter engine off, and then switch it back on in less than 15 minutes, it can take two attempts to restart. -
Looking for a Mercedes A-Class 4 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, my gran is considering buying a new or nearly new Mercedes A-Class automatic. I know that I sell cars, but to be honest, the firm I work for doesn't really have anything suitable, so I'm looking around to try and find one in a Merc main dealer. Has anyone got any advice about where the best source of an A140, or possibly an A160 might be? -
Small reliable auto? 30 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Sorry for starting off another "which car should I buy for £x" thread. My son will shortly be looking for a smallish car but must be an automatic as he has been used to driving one after spending a few years in Japan. The car he was driving was a 600cc auto with air con which had to have the air con switched off before it could tackle even the slightest gradient!. -
VW Passat 1.9 TD 10 Jun 2003 (Forum)
hi to everyone, Have just recently purchased (tues just gone) a VW Passat 1.9 TD S TDI 115 bhp Automatic Tiptronic (W reg) can anyone shed some light on these cars as to its good or bad points that I should be on the lookout for.... You maybe aware from one of my previous posts that we had a Omega 2.5 TD auto and a petrol laguna auto, but the Missus just could not get on with the omega, so we sold both cars, as I wanted an Auto/Diesel and my wish has come true. -
Carlton and ECU problem! 6 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I own a good automatic '90 Vauxhall Carton 2ltr with genuine 48k on the clock. Thought ECU was faulty but jumping diagnostic output plug reveals a stream of code 12s - code for ECU initialisation (with engine running) and code 12s plus 31s with engine off (31 = no crank rpm!) -
Driving School Recommendations 29 Nov 2001 (Forum)
My insurers are more than a little reluctant to let me stick L-plates on the Z28 for a few weeks and we're having trouble finding a driving school that has automatics. Thanks, Kevin... -
Small MPV 7 Mar 2001 (Forum)
The Scenic I have read is not that reliable, but the interior looks much better than the Tino, plus they do automatics on more of the engine range. I would love some feedback from users and maybe I should look at others. Thanks Rob D -
Comparison information required. - 4x4, AWD, AllGrip, AllRoad, what's the difference? 12 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I recall that four wheel drive can be described as 'part-time' or 'full time'. Then there's manually and automatically lockable centre differentials, and somewhere I'll bet there will be lockable axle differentials as well. Must not forget the Torque Biasing differentials, as well as the old clutch style Limited Slip. -
Toyota Auris - hybrid or diesel & what MPG to expect 30 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Hi All, I've posted this question on another forum but it's gone way off topic and I still haven't had an answer, so am hoping someone on here can help. I currently drive an 2009 Auris T3 1.4 diesel automatic and am looking to replace it with another newer and more economical car (budget about £8000 - has to be an automatic) I currently get an average MPG in the high 50s (based on miles and how much I fill up, plus the onboard computer generally agrees), so I'd like to better that if I could, but reading some "real life" MPGs on newer cars is putting me off. -
Lexus CT 200h - Hybrid Unwanted Acceleration 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi John In September I purchased on a PCP through the Lexus Finance Group a 12 month old CT200h car. The driving experience was very different however I required an automatic car that had a good mpg so a hybrid with many extras appeared to be a good solution. I felt that the compromise for its lack of speed was the price I paid for a robust car to tackle the many miles of motorway driving that I endure. -
Choosing an automatic - the good & the bad ? 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I currently run a Focus 2, tdci which apart from a flat spot that was never fixed & poor brakes is largely ok. However for the next car I really fancy... -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8i Mk1 Central locking problems 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi folks - I've got a central locking issue with my Mk1 (1999) 1.8i Focus Zetec - here are the symptoms : Remote locking/deadlocking - locks all doors except driver's door, then all automatically unlock immediately. Remote unlocking (all doors locked) - unlocks all doors except driver's door. Manual locking and unlocking (driver's side) - locks and unlocks all doors as normal. Manual deadlocking (driver's side) locks all doors, however driver's door can be opened from inside and unlocks all others (this shouldn't be possible) Manual locking (passenger side) - locks all doors except driver's door, then all automatically unlock immediately. -
4WD vs Traction Control/Quality Tyres 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Basically I am after a reliable hatchback or estate which is occupant safe, economical and comfortable to drive. Ideally automatic but not necessarily. Budget up to say £12000 or so. New/2nd hand fine. Fiesta/Polo too small. I do not drive fast or aggressively, but most of my driving (15000miles / year) is on B roads and country roads. -
Mondeo auto starting problems 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The car is a 1997 Mondeo 2.0 GLX 16v automatic estate. It won?t start intermittently. Usually you can hear the starter motor solenoid click, but the starter motor doesn?t turn. The lights don?t dim, suggesting the starter motor?s contacts aren? -
Kia Picanto - Kia Picanto 2017 (Mk2) SE Auto - Creep very slow 3 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I have recently purchased a 2017 Kia Picanto (mark 2) automatic. I find that when I try to move off in Drive the creep speed is extremely low if its there at all. I have to use the accelerator to move off. I briefly queried this with my local Kia dealer when the car was in to have a door seal fixed and they said it was a 'safety feature' for this model and year of car. -
To Be Decided - Which Estate Car 10 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I am looking to change my car but cant decide what is best to go for. I have about £12500 to spend. Would like an automatic. I need a good sized boot space, low lip if possible but not totally essential need a good 100cm front to back if possible. I will keep this for 3 or 4 years and do 15 to 20K per annum.
