  Holden’s ‘demand’ was for co-investment to help develop the antiquated factory in Elizabeth, South Australia, to bring it up to the standards of a modern car plant. By contrast, it was less than a third of the money that BMW had received from the US government to build a factory in South Carolina, but Australia is a small country trapped in a large land mass, and to its citizens and its media, the concept of global companies using government cash to bring manufacturing to their shores was difficult for them to comprehend.  Here in the UK, without such co-investment, we wouldn’t have Nissan or Toyota making cars.

  Next up were the 150 pedal and drivable toy cars spanning virtually the whole history of the motoring age which ranged in price from just £55 for a modern plastic BMW Z4 Roadster to £9,020 for a highly detailed miniature vintage Blower Bentley on a metal chassis and complete with electric motor. Three other vintage Bentleys made around £2,650 apiece, while a miniature AC Cobra made £5,610, an electric 1950s-style Ferrari Barchetta made £5,720 and a pair of pre-war-style Austin Twin Cam single seaters by Pathfinder raised some £3,330 apiece.

  Desperate times call for desperate measures, and in 2000, there was no company quite as anxious to ensure its survival as MG Rover. After the Phoenix Consortium famously bought the company from BMW for a princely £10, Longbridge had an uphill struggle on its hands for survival. It was one that, ultimately, was never going to be – but if proof were needed that MG Rover’s engineers and designers gave it their best shot, the MG Z-Cars are it.

  German TUV testing from 80kmh to 0kmh showed an average 1.5 metre shorter stopping distance compared to the average of the competitors. DRY BRAKING Next, dry braking performance. The tyres were 225/45 R17s on BMW 320ds. Stopping from 80kmh to 10kmh I managed 23.9 metres on the competitor tyres and 22.5 metres on the Michelin Primacy 3s. The group results were 23.8 metres on the competitor and 22.5 metres on Michelin Primacy 3s.

  The thrilling St Mary’s Trophy for 1960s saloon cars saw Richard Shaw anchor a brilliant overall win with track victory in Sunday’s second installment of this two-part race in the 1965 BMW 1800 TiSA.  Tom Kristensen and Kenny Brack took an emphatic win in the rain in the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Celebration race for GT cars aboard Daniela Ellerbrock’s Shelby Daytona Cobra.

  'Four Nations' in Saturday's Futurecar Challenge 5 Nov 2010 (News)
    Five of the vehicles are part of The Technology Strategy Board's UK-wide ultra low carbon vehicle demonstrator programme, where over 340 vehicles will be trailed and provide data for future vehicle innovation. The cars are Ecotricity's Nemesis, Mercedez  Benz's Smart E, Mitsubishi's i-Miev, BMW's Mini E and two the Liberty E-Range Range Rovers, the world's first pure electric 4x4 vehicle.   Iain Gray Chief Executive of the Technology Strategy Board, who is taking part in the rally said:  "It's great to get the opportunity to take part in the rally and travel to London in a Liberty E- Range Rover.

  The field is combined with a saloon car invitation race which has Ian Crisp from Devizes in his BMW E36. The day's action starts at 08.40 am with qualifying, racing getting under way from 12.30 pm.
