  • M3 Road Improvements 26 May 2016 (Forum)
Driving along this stretch many times over many years I'm always puzzled at why so many mnay drivers are overtaking me at around 60MPH. Do they know something I dont? Are the average speed cameras working? Surely so many drivers cannot be unaware or the speed controls? I don't get it.
  • I am Guilty - Forgotten MOT 10 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Promptly booked an MOT online locally for today. Passed. But what about all those so called ANPR cameras there are. To date no notifications so hopefully all will be well. Have told him to put it on his calendar for end dec 2016 so that it is done on time. I am guilty by association as I normally deal with his ved and insurance.
  • Any - John O'Groats - Land's End: average journey speeds 23 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I was reading this story (from Superbike magazine, 1984) about a rapid journey from John O'Groats to Land's End - 884 miles in 11 hours 14 minutes on a Kawa GPz750 turbo, at a point-to-point average of nearly 79mph:  http://www.tubbylardo.co.uk/2011%282a%29.html I don't think that would be possible these days, given traffic volumes, speed cameras etc:  in fact, averaging even 60mph point to point usually involves cruising above the legal limit most of the time. Do Back Roomers believe that average journey times have increased, and average speeds dropped, over the past couple of decades?
  • Fiesta Ghia 1.6 Auto (2008) - Slots on the dash 6 Jul 2011 (Forum)
However, I am rather at a loss as to what the four slots on the dash are for just above the CD player. They look like SIM card slots (for a phone) or a camera memory card. The are four slots in total.....I didn't venture to put in a sim card as there are no eject buttons to retrieve such. Perha[s someone may be kind enough to explain what these slots are for and how they work?
  • Speeding 18 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hello, Just a quick note to see what people think my likely punishment will be. First offence, clean licence held for 10+ years.. I was caught by police car camera, average speed through a 40mph zone was clocked at 68mph... its too fast I know, one off mistake trying to get home after a long day. Its a really straight bit of road with a few houses set back.. anyway that doesnt matter, broken the law so have to face it.
  • renaut clio - Red Traffic lights 22 Sep 2010 (Forum)
This is a regular journey and I was not concentrating properly this time, preoccupied with other matter and worries. What is the worst that could happen and can I be sure that any cameras did pick me up? No excuses it was my fault and I wish I had been more vigilent. I consider myself a safe driver and have never had any sort of ticket or fine in over 15 years am I heading for a first?
  • NIP received - correct address but wrong name. 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Afternoon all, The other day we received what I imagine was an NIP. It was in a white envelope with "Camera Enforcement, Liverpool" as the return address on the back and had "If this is addressed to a company, then this should be directed to the company secretary" printed above the name and address. Talking of which, the address on the NIP was correct (ie, ours), but the name was one that I didn't recognise and SWMBO tells me that nobody of that name has ever lived here, certainly not in the past twelve years anyway.
  • 'Who's Watching You' Monday 9pm BBC2 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Previewed on BBC 6pm news yesterday: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/whos_watching_you/8064333.stm The existing cameras which use ANPR to log/store journeys will soon all be linked to a central computer. Information Commissioner says "We are not actively monitoring that area. You're right to ask the question. No one's checking it at the moment".
  • Driver awareness course - Hampshire 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have been driving for 25 years and was doing 36mph in a 30mph limit. Nevermind that I'm constantly checking my speedo, and look out for speed cameras on a daily basis. London (and Hampshire) are full of them. Could anyone who has attended one of these courses, please let me know what 'fun' I'm in for during the 3 hour session?! Also, I asked Hampshire to let me attend a course in London, but they said that wasn't possible.
  • Past glories - searching for old links 9 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Some time ago (over a year I think) someone posted a fabulous link to an old film of Saab 9000's 'dancing' for want of a better description on a runway with musical accompaniment. There was also a link for a tunnel in Russia where a camera had filmed the slippery conditions (and ensuing mayhem) that also was worth watching. Looking at the (very funny) link with the Volkswagen ad with the swear word listed earlier in this forum that brought a big grin to my face I remembered these two past glories.
  • More motorway nonsense 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Driving back from Stansted to Cheshire Sunday night at 11pm: M6 Spaghetti Junction: 40mph average speed camera. No-one working on it, A38 (M) road into central B'ham. Why should I keep to 40mph if they can't keep their end of the deal? As my friend said, if they're going to shut a section of a motorway that's that busy and that important, they should be working 24/7 on it.
  • Should he be banned? 12 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Is doing 20mph (in a 40mph zone) and he takes both hands off the wheel, leans towards the windscreen and gives the van 2 "V" signs. Of course this is captured on camera, is handed over to police and they prosecute him for dangerous driving as had both hands off the wheel. Is banned for a year, fined £90 and ordered to resit his test. Now my gut feeling is that the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
  • effective traffic calming ? 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
We have been told by the council that we can have £5000 for traffic calming measures in the first instance, but I dont think that will do much more than signs and lines on the road. Anyone care to tell what would cause them to slow down ? Other than policemen with cameras ? (we dont have scameras round here) thanks Mark
  • car park incident 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Though there was no sign of damage to either car, I gave the shop employee my details. I returned shortly afterwards with a camera to record the fact there was no visible damage. The same shop employee came out and before i could explain what I was doing, told me it was against the law to take pictures without the landowners consent, and that he was 'excluding' me from his car park Was he right ?
  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 78 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
(is it called an IPAQ, or is that name specific to Hewlett Packard ?) Rather than buying a separate sat-nav and speed camera locator, I want them all housed in the one package, but these are secondary functions that I'll be using it for. Ideally, I want it to have bluetooth, WIFI, etc. I gather Hewlett Packard are the bees knees when it comes to IPAQ's.
  • How long does it take to build a fence 22 Aug 2005 (Forum)
They've only got a few panels left to put in, but that seems to have been the situation for the last few months. Fortunately there aren't any cameras in the vicinity, otherwise I hate to think how many people would have been prosocuted for speeding whilst there are no workers to protect. Has anyone any idea how much longer are they going to be at it?
  • Best Driveability in Europe? 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Thing is Im not sure which place would qualify as the best with regard to factors like the roads/scenery/less speed cameras(Not that I intend to speed like a lunatic). Which country would you chaps regard as being among the better ones in this regard. The Autobahn would probably be a first choice but I might find myself seriously underpowered in a smallish rental motor!
  • Penalty charge notice 6 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi all My car got a PCN when entering a road with a sign that say's" Pedestrian Zone" with the relevant times except Disabled badge holders, buses and taxis. The notice came in my name but my dad was driving (he's disabled). A camera caught my car. My dad did not get my consent to use the car, he did display the badge when parking in the disabled bay after entering the road. I spoke to the parking people, they said he should have displayed the blue badge on the dash before entering the road.
  • FI question - Ferrari pitstops? 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Strange thing on our local coverage the other day... every time the red cars came in, there was an overhead camera shot showing the mechanics hard at work changing tyres, refuelling etc... However, the CENTRE of the car, where the driver is, seemed to be 'fuzzed out' on the picture... You know the technique - they use it on the news to cover important people's number plates, and criminals' faces.
  • Altered restrictions 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
However, driving down there today I just happened to notice it's been changed to 7am-7pm. I was able to sheepishly pull out of it and as I don't think they use cameras probably got away with it, but are LAs allowed to just change restrictions as and when they see fit and is it down to us to try and pick out these tiny little plates high up on posts while trying to avoid the traffic as well?
