Escort 1994 1.6 16v 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
i have recentley rebuilt my zetec but also with piper cams & flowing and porting and an fse power boost valve i also have had the ecu reflashed to match the mods but its a pain to start, idles irractically, and has a bad misfire after you rev it up misses on way back down to idle speed ive had the timing done abut 3 times its got new plugs gapped at 1mm, new leads, new earths, new mass air meter, new lamda sensor and new engine sensors but it still has the same problem any ideas cos its cost me a small fortune but its currently running at 160 brake with 140 torque so when it runs ok it will be well worth it ps it still does 30 to the gallon -
Renault 1 Andy 0 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Having become a owner 0f a 2002 laguna 1.9dc1 estate three months ago I thought all these stories about faults with Renault were exaggerated .I can confirm they are not ,some faults with the ECU warning lights Renault could not cure. I have owned many cars and you expect some problems but but Renault come top of the league never again will I utter the the name .I have bought a Primera 2004 2.2 sve diesel direct from the lease company and luckily offloaded the Laguna into the trade my contact there says I was lucky it was a diesel because he cannot find dealers who will take petrols at any price. It may have been a bad motor or I was just unlucky but judging by other posts in this forum and others I think not .Renault Laguna R.I.P. -
Tipo fails MoT on emissions 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
It starts and runs fine, except it's doing 25 mpg driven sensibly, on medium runs. Is there something I'm missing here - say ECU failure? Seems unlikely that the timing is/was incorrectly set (by a professional), given that it's otherwise running acceptably. -
Omega Diesel Engine Cutout Problem 9 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone got any ideas or suffered with the problem and had it fixed, I don\'t want to go down the route of replacing all the parts like pump, ecu sensor this and that in the hope it might fix it. Thanks in advance PB -
Advice re V (2000) Punto 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The dealers have quoted me £1,000 MINIMUM labour costs and £300 MINIMUM costs for replacement parts etc to find where the water is getting in (they reckon they have to strip various parts of the engine and body etc) Question is , is it worth paying out for this ? I reckon the car is worth about £2500....and I've already paid for a new ECU and exhaust in the past 6 months or so. Would I be better to just sell the heap of junk for scrap ???! -
Audi A4 TDi starts then stops 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Upon investigating, it appears the transponder reader coil is a weak point on the A4 and possibly other VAG Diesel cars. Reading the fault codes from the immobiliser ECU flagged a "Transponder low output" fault code, kind of confirming the fault. Replaced the ignition barrel, cut to the car using the VIN so no coding etc was required by Audi (I refuse to pay £84+VAT/hr labour rates...) -
Peugeot 306 alarm 19 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Some while ago I have replaced a cooling fan. I have also performed an ECU reset as procedure mentioned by another BR. This was for the stepper motor problem I had before. Somewhile after this my alarm failed to sound when activated. But the indicators flash when the alarm is triggered. -
Saxo surging 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
At random when driving the speed will suddenly decrease by about 15miles an hour then return back to previous speed in a pulsing fashion. I have changed ,plugs, leads, lambda probe, fuelfilter, coil, temp sensor (to ecu), exhaust and cat were change about 2 months ago. I drained out some petrol for a contamination check. All contacts have been cleaned. All pipes checked for leaks. When I took the plugs out they were sooty. -
Rover 214 emissions 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The car has since been to the dealer's, who could find no fault with the diagnostics and tried a new ECU - no change. The (Rover) dealer has now given up saying they cannot fix it! The diagnosis is no-fault-found. The emissions are absolutely constant at 10% - as if they are being (mis)regulated to that level. -
Astra Merit problem 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
So far the car has had all plugs changed, all filters replaced, new distributor, rotor arm ect ect. The final repalcement was the ECU and still the fault is there. Is there anything else that can be checked please, as I am at the end of the road, so to speak? I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars, and its cost me a lot of money up to now. -
Citroen C3 16v HDi, hesitant pick-up 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
(in my experience) Idle RPM seems low, around 500rpm on the clock, might this have something to do with it? Oh, just remembered that idle rpm cannot be set independently, its controlled by the ECU! Any experiences or ideas would be welcome, TVM Alf -
940 B200FT cutting out 17 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The OBD 1 diagnostic unit causes the lambda light to come on and reports fault codes 1-4-4 (fault in or to bosch LH2.4 ecu). He has had a mobile tuning firm out and they suggested replacing the fuel pump relay (a common fault on these cars), this had no effect. He then called the RAC who said they didn't carry the correct software, however the OBD1 system appears to have no port for connection to an external computer, the RAC guy did however suggest that the fault was not related to the ignition amplifier as the fault isn't temperature dependent. -
2003 Peugeot 307 gxl auto h/b petrol - social financial emotional affects of car repairs 19 Feb 2019 (Forum)
The second week I telephoned, mentioned I was concerned about the repair prices. He agreed and went on to say it could be the ECU OR BCM. I did my own research and it appears a corroded ECU on this car is a common fault due to water ingress. After three weeks, today, I telephoned. His brother said he would call back , he didn't Tomorrow I shall go to the garage and ask him just where are we now. -
Ford Escort - 95 1.4i Acapulco - Electrical problem... 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
- car wiring diagram terms don't correlate to normal language terms - e.g. wiring diagram refers to "power hold relay" a.k.a. R2 / Fuel Injection, ECU relay. e.g. Electronic DIS module a.k.a. Ingnition module. - Fuse 13 supplies 12V (pullup power) to ECU, ingnition module, "injector resistor", "Canister purge solanoid", Fuel injectror and speed sensor. -

Vauxhall Corsa D 2007 1.3 CDTi - Engine doesn't pick up and runs rough 3 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Further searches on the interweb on rough running engines seemed to point to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) unit being at fault, this unit measures the air flow into the engine and sends the relevant signal the the engine's Engine Control Unit (ECU). If the sensor in the MAF unit gets dirty its sends the wrong signals to the ECU and the engine doesn't run right, cleaning the sensor might be the cure the problem. Another search on the interweb on how to clean a MAF unit opened up another load of mis-information on what to use but I came across one entry that that stated categorically that you should use nothing else but a special MAF cleaner, anything else could damage it. -
