`Tupped` by French behemoth in city street 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Anyway, my wife returned and off we went, but I would have put a ticket on her car under the wiper if said, Stasi foot patrol had arrived. The other thought was, people are far more important than cars. Regards -
Car scam - no such thing as a bargain 28 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Felt it was important to post the following advice here as it is a scam that we are increasingly seeing and although on the face of it you would say "who would fall for that", naivety and a bargain can blind the astutest of people. -
Mondeo vs Avensis vs. Maxda 6 vs. ? 8 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Try a search for a Mondeo TDCi instead! So opinions on the Avensis and 6 welcome. A company car so CO2 and list price important. Alternative suggestions welcome but do not want it to cost more than the Mondeo if possible and that is taxed at 18% for Benefit in Kind (Euro IV pre 2006). Marques available are: - Chevrolet (right!) -
Speeding stats for my village 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Furthermore, 93% of drivers were exceeding the 30mph limit coming into the village although may not have been caught on a camera. On the road past the primary school which is more important still, westbound 51% were exceeding 36 mph, eastbound 55%. This is past a school from which children have to cross the road from a blind bend, which is fine in the given length of road if the cars do the limit, dangerous if they dont. -
Kiev car life 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
BTW I got my car back from the garage last week after having one side repainted due to vandalism (got compensation paid promptly, too) the cost of the bodywork was $150 - mind you, its a white American convertible of 17 years and only the size of a 3 series BMW so it was a bit of a blow over. I am gathering energy to write about the flourishing Chinese imported car market which has seen some grandly (funnily) named models hit the market if anyone is interested. Spring is definately in the air here and the aged part of the population are wheeling out their Zaparozets from hibernation - think NZU Prinz without the reliability so break downs will shortly abound. -
A screw loose. 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Thinking about this, I also removed the passenger's side panel and again found a very loose bolt of the same size - this was similarly secured. This all worries me somewhat as I wonder just how many more, perhaps important nuts and bolts are loosening themselves and what does this say about VW's quality control and the appalling road surfaces. Someone on that site did suggest that maybe the torque settings for fastening are kept low in order not to strip any plastics into which they are being screwed down, in which case why aren't locking washers being used? -
Government Cancelled Speed Camera Resear 15 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Our confident conclusion is that speed cameras are making road safety much worse and must be scrapped immediately." He went on: "It is astonishing and grossly irresponsible that the DfT has cancelled their important 'side effects' research. I can only imagine that they were scared about the likely results and would rather save face than save lives. "I would love to see a DfT point-by-point response to our new report but of course they cannot properly respond because they have cancelled their research." -
Mini Cooper S Vs Mondeo Ghia X TDCi!!! 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Given the easy life of the car, how could this be? Despite this, she really likes it. Another important point is that she plans to keep it for a good while. I know the Mondeo makes sense, I know it's cheaper and I know it probably gives a better motorway ride but you can tell she wants something fun and I can't really blame her so, like I said, assuming the insurance doesn't become a problem, and the price gets sorted out, in other words, assuming all things are equal, why should she not buy this MIni? -
My new Passat - first impressions 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
All dealings by phone/letter until the day I took delivery. Excellent service and a saving of £2k. UK car, not a dodgy import! And by way of comparison it cost me £200 more than my Audi A4 1.9TDi SE six years ago! I?m obviously tempting fate but so far I?m over the moon with it!! Cheers Pat -
Air con problems...again! Ford Focus 16 Aug 2006 (Forum)
What I mean is, surely something horrendously expensive like an evaporator, condensor or something is leaking and not to put too fine a point on it, my bank balance is in minus figures - much as I love cold air, there's no way I could justify the cost of replacing something expensive when things like tyres are more important. I realise I'm asking for a remote diagnosis which is probably nigh on impossible but is there any chance the loss of gas (I'm assuming it's all gone) is down to a hose or something? Or for it to have gone in such a short time, is something bigger likely? -
big, safe cars that go round corners 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
After most of my driving career spent driving very large, big fat engined, floaty cars with pillow soft rides, the few weeks I had with my 160 quid Primera opened my eyes to cars that with good roadholding abilities, and how that can actually be considered a "safety measure"! Your advice needed please! Important to me: Lots and lots of front legroom with reach/rake wheel, as I have a knee injury and need to keep my leg as straight as possible. Above average safety (with lots of stability control features too) Lots of grunt, particularly lower end Above average roadholding whilst still being a quiet and smooth ride (do many long trips each year) over to Europe Naturally, prefer the highest spec possible. -
New Fiesta 2003 startup failure! 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It may take 2-3 times to retry. After that engine starts slowly. It does not happen all the time. The most important thing is I spoke with the first owner to know why she sold the car only after using 2 months! She said the car does not start at first run after she stops for supermarket. Which also happened to me. -
Executive saloon purchase 13 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I am planning to keep it for 5-6 years. Total cost of ownership is a concern; petrol consumption less important. The following are on my shortlist (all are old shape saloons) BMW 530 petrol BMW 735 Mercedes E320 petrol Jaguar XJ8 Essential: Automatic Petrol Leather CD stack Ideal: Parking sensors Xenon lights Climate control I am planning to buy from The Great Trade Centre, and can just about get any of the above within my £10000-12000 budget. -
R-O-B; some hard figures 8 Nov 2003 (Forum)
For certain parts (e.g. the started motor) there could be a good saving in buying from the US (assuming one doesn\'t get stung for too much import tax). I am now trying to get a list of prices from a German dealer. I know the parts are cheaper over there (I bought a set of Pt. plugs from a Munich dealer for about Euro60) - but I want to see the full picture. -
Ford Euro IV Diesel Info 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
COLOGNE, Germany, October 3, 2003 -- Ford diesel technology is staying ahead of the curve on two important emissions issues in the environmentally sensitive European market. The European exhaust gas emissions standard, known as the Euro Stage IV, will be the strictest in the world when it goes into effect in 2005. -
Yaris D4D vs Golf TDI 130 12 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Yes I know this topic sounds like an unlikely head to head, but I have a decision to make. I own a Golf TDI 130 5 door bought new in January 2002 from Motorhouse 2000, it\'s an EU import. I bought the Golf over the Christmas hols in a hurry after I rejected my new MINI Cooper, following legal advice. But that\'s another story! The early BMW Mini\'s were not good news... To put this into context, I commute 40 miles a day to work and back. -
Golf service 15 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Bearing in mind that I paid about 6k for it (PAS, electric windows + roof) is spending about 1k worth it (I realise that clutch and brakes are quite important!!)and buy something else (fancy either Mazda 323 or Nissan Almera). I had thought today was going to be good until this happened. I then went to the bank where I nearly got clobbered by an exploding man hole cover (missed it by 30 secs!). -
Hyundai i30 GDI Turbo petrol - Petrol particulate filters 25 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I really had to dig deep into the handbook (over 500 pages!) to find the meaning of this and given the importance of the issue I would have expected a more explicit warning at the front. I'm quite sure that many other owners much less informed than me wouldn't know what to do.The dealer never mentioned the implications of driving styles to me. -
New keeper error? 8 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I never received the v5 log book in the post and didn’t think anything of it. I have only now realised the importance of me not having my v5 log book, and ensuring that I am actually the registered keeper of this vehicle. Stupid of me I know but truly I had no idea about this. So I have a couple of questions: - Will the vehicle be taxed in my name? -
Advice on buying PHEV 12 May 2021 (Forum)
I will also do twice a year a long trip to Europe, which will be probably an extra 8k miles. My next car will be a family car, with baby seat, so safety and reliability of the car is an important factor. Are there any car owners of these models on this forum that can tell me a little bit about them? Also what's the mpg consumption once the electric charge is gone? I would like the Volvo because is diesel so I assume the consumption will be better than petrol and is also AWD compared with the other two.
