Citroen Xsara Picasso 2002 - warranty 18 Jun 2010 (Forum)
It is not part of the power steering unit. The power steering unit consists of the pump, reservoir and ECU. The ram is part of the steering rack but has no input into the vehicles steering. It is a safety device to stop kickback during small accidents such as hitting kerbs. This is why it is not listed under the "Steering" section of coverage." -
What car next? 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
It has just this week broken down (again) with no warning and left me stranded on the A14. The fault this time is electrical necessitating a repair to the ECU - earth pin on number one cylinder injector. Much as I love the old barge, I don't have faith that this car won't fail me again. It has a small oil leak coming from somewhere behind the engine block (gear linkage?) -
1.9 TDI 115PS - Ford Galaxy Turbo Problem 20 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Have just had the codes read which give a code of P1557 (turbo pressure control) and P1570 ( engine ECU blocked). I am suspecting the N75 pressure control valve but having taken the the engine cover off this a.m., there is this'unit' bolted in the manifold just prior to where the manifold joins the cylinder head and underneath the front vacuum unit which is part of it, there are signs where oil/oil vapour has been leaking which would explain the smell of burning oil in the cab. -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - Use independents? Yeah, right! 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Went down to the local VAG "specialist" (according to their website) who quoted £60 + VAT just to pull the ABS fault code from the ECU - more than a VW dealer! When I asked if it might just be the switch, I was asked if the coil light came on at the same time. It didn't, so this bloke assures me that it's not the brake switch. -
Ford - How to approach Dealer after repair that wasnt fix 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Evening, My car (2001 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec) has a very annoying problem where it is "stumbling" at idle. I had a local mobile mechanic come and have a look and plug in his computer - but the ECU was registering no codes. He thought it might be the Idle Control Valve so put a new one on and it didn't fix it - so he put the old one back on. So last Monday i took the car to local Ford main dealer. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 95 2.0 GTi electrical fault 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
hi there, i'm new to the site, i have a 1995 mk3 golf gti 2.0 8v engine code agg i recently parked up the car over night and returned the next morning to find it would not start although it was cranking, got plenty fuel getting to engine but found no spark, changed the obvious coil but to no joy so changed crank sensor, dizzy cap and rotor arm, still no joy, all relays are correct and present. after some head scratching and testing i found that the 3 pin connector that goes to the distributor was at fault as all 3 wires had a 12v feed, the brown/blue wire is earthed when ignition is off but becomes 12v when ignition on, this appears to incorrect, i put earth using power probe when cranking and it started, but i'm stumped as to where the feed comes from so i can find the fault, is it an internal fault with engine ecu? only faults present using ethos scanner is throttle position sensor fault, if this if at fault would it cause this short? any help on this matter would be greatley appreciated, if i put a permanent earth to this wire it runs sweet as a nut but i know this isn't correct and has to be rectified, regards jakey -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 Car keeps going into limp mode - causes? 26 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Today it lost power again this time more scary than the other ones. I took it to my mechanic who had it on his expensive ECU tester and found an error code low lambda voltage. He was not sure how this could cause my power loss so he looked deeper into the history and found my engine keeps going into limp mode. EGR valve is apparantly fine or at least no errors codeded there. -

Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 cutting out at junctions etc 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Heard so much about this problem for a long time, read all the forums, nothing definate to fix problem, throttle bodys being replaced putting the fault right and also not putting the fault right. This partiucular clio has had a map sensor, lamda sensor, wiring to ecu repaired, coil pack, brake switch totalling £600. I got it today, and after some time spent on it, i am convinced its the throttle body. the fault is intermittant, can run perfect for a good while the suddenly at the next junction, stalls, light flashes on, revs up nad down. -

Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.9CDTi automatic gearbox - jerky changes. 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
On one occasion I used manual override to change from 6th to 5th and I was left with no drive to the wheels, the engine on maximum revs (it was in cruise control) and doing 70mph in the outside lane. The cas has spent 4 weeks with the Vauxhall dealer in which time it has a new gearbox, a new ECU and then another new gearboxes fitted before the dealer believed that the problem had been fixed. All of this work was done under warranty with guidance from Vauxhall technical support and included about 180 miles of testing. -
Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - '89-'941.6 (c16nz) fuel mixture problem! 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
(the voltage of l-sensor is not varies) I changed the l-sensor. the same problem I changed the "cold"-sensor on the uptake (after the injection gas jet). the same problem I cleaned the injection. The same problem I changed the ecu and i still have the same problem! The motor light is still flashing (like a bad electric contact) what else i must check?? Thank you Hi I guess you're posting from abroad ! Hope you don't mind but I've filed this under the UK nomenclature of Vauxhall's equivalent Cavalier. -
Vauxhall 14XE engine - a lemon? 10 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Very intermittent and occurs under all conditions; high or low engine speed, during warm up and when at normal temp, on long or short runs and low or high ambient temperatures. I've been told that there is an ECU upgrade for this engine; anyone know anything about this? Thanx in advance. -
Peugeot 406 stalling during warmup 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My local garage have cleaned out throttle housing etc, checked for loose or blocked pipes or breathers and added a specialist injector cleaner, but the fault is so temperature dependent that I don?t think any of these are the real cause of the fault. I thought that the ECU is perhaps getting incorrect temperature information from the coolant temperature sensor, but when I trakced it down, there is a nice new shiny sensor already screwed into the housing, so someone has tried to fix this before (yep, we? -
Renault's insane design 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Anyway, the car wouldn't start and after several hours with a 'scope and meter I eventually found a broken wire running from the crank sensor to the ECU. The wires are really thin and the plastic had gone hard and fractured - this on a car only four years old! Anyway I test drove the car and noticed that it was missing slightly and the gearbox was crunching a bit due to 'clutch drag'. -
Focus TDCi injector fault / power loss 29 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The technician said that he has seen a lot of TDCi's with knackered injectors (they seem particularly prone to damage)which feed back data to the ECU, which shuts down the fuel delivery, presumably to prevent further damage. it's not a critical fault, so the glow plug light does not flash. I am told that the best you can expect to pay for an injector is around £300 from an independent, but you still have to get the injector calibration details programmed in by Ford. -
Peugeot non start 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Is it the relay which could be faulty cos of my water antics? or is something more severe like the ECU (have checked it and only a small water mark on it which is dry now, shoke it to check theres no water inside). I've checked the fuel line and there's no fuel being pumped (so its not my hearing thats going) . -
Vectra 2.0 DTI acceleration stutter 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
So far I have found a few links, but they nearly all point to the Air Flow Meter (AFM), I have tried swapping it with a spare, but it didn't make a difference. However when I unplugged the AFM my ECU light came on and I couldn't rev the car over 4000 RPMs. So I'm doubtful that could be the problem. The problem is that when you accelerate between 2500 - 3500 revs the car seems to loose all power for about 1-2 seconds. -
306 XSi Engine behaving oddly... 11 Jan 2003 (Forum)
When it's in this mood and I put it in neutral and take my foot off the throttle normally the engine sinks below idle and dies. Sometimes the ECU revs the car repeatedly and the revs bounce and sometimes it recovers and idles normally. I've just taken it to an independent garage, he cleaned the stepper, changed the fuel filter and refitted the plugs and coil pack. -
Galant UnGalant behaviour 28 May 2002 (Forum)
I haven't the confidence to take a £600 gamble as if that fails apparently the next one is £900 on a new ECU. Has anyone experienced the same fault(s)? Can anyone suggest a cure? Should I keep going until it stops completely making diagnosis easier? Richard
