Peugeot 405 Diesel - Ticking noise 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Haynes doesn't help. The electrics are shot on this car as an "Auto electrician" attacked the car to stop the battery being flattened. I guess this may have been someone at a garage as I bought it with an MoT that it shouldn't really have passed. If your still awake, Thanks for reading. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.1 Standard Clarion CD Player 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, Yesterday I replaced the battery on our Pug. It was the original so no complaints there. As a matter of course i put jump leads from another car onto the leads and replaced the battery without problems. The car has a standard Clarion CD player and I'm unsure if it is a coded system like most in car units. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8T Idle problem 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Some days its absolutely fine but others it often cuts out.Wednesday last week it cut out in traffic and wouldnt restart at all, I tried a few times but it was like I flattened the battery trying (or the immobiliser kicked in or something) I went back 3 hours later and it started 1st time and was idling perfectly. I had the breather pipe replaced (and the battery - my remote locking doesnt work anymore either, cant seem to calibrate it) about 3 months ago. -

Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 Blown fuse affecting ignition light and cl 10 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Is the car safe to drive, subject to lack of rear wipers, clock etc that are apparently controlled by this fuse, or will the car be running off the battery and not charging the battery? -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 99 2.0 How to test cam sensor? 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
hi, i'm getting zero volts readings from my cam sensor with ignition on. i have a brown/green, grey/red and grey/black wire, and a screening shield. ive tested all variations of the wires but im getting no reading. i also put the black multimeter probe on negative battery and tried positive probe on all three wires, expecting that at least one of them would give me 12v, but no go. am i doing something wrong? multimeter is set to one of the V readings which gives me 12v from the battery. -
Peugeot Boxer (2000 - 2007) - 1999 2.5 non starter 5 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Tried restarting and engine turned over fast a couple of times and then nothing at all, completely dead. Towed home, recharged battery, and still no response from starter. Battery is fine, checked main earth cable from gearbox to wing, that's fine too. I have sidelights, but no headlights, radio works fine, etc. My first instinct was the earth cable, a common problem on these vans, but its okay. -
Crackdown on 'souped-up pedicabs' 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Police said about 80% of London's 1,000 pedicabs have been illegally adapted to run partially on car batteries, allowing them to reach speeds of 20mph. End quote. Ok, I can see these things are dangerous, but if they're 'death traps' presumably even the battery-less ones can't be that safe? It wouldn't take much of a downhill slope to allow a reasonably fit pedicab driver to get up to 20mph. -
Jump start packs 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
It turned over twice and then died. My conclusion is that they work well for a year, but probably have cheap batteries inside with a very limited capacity and life. I suppose you get what you pay for. If you want to jump start a car with a portable power source, use a proper battery. -
Renault Megane Coupe + Cabrio (1999 - 2003) - 2002 1.6 none starter 4 Jul 2008 (Forum)
3weeks ago my petrol light was jammed indicating i was low on petrol(i was not)i pulled in to get petrol anyway, then my car seemed to jam and a clicking noize came from underneath the stearing wheel.the car would not even turn over and apart from the clicking sound nothing was happening. i was jumped started and went forn a long drive as the mechanic said it was the battery but this did not work.I had to get a new battery fitted which seemed to solve the problem.. but it has started to do it again after 3weeks. Can anyone suggest what the problem could be? it is a megane coupe sports 2oo2 50 k on the clock. thank you liz -
Audi A3 + S3 (2001 - 2003) - 03 1.8T EPC warning light after jump start 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I have an Audi A3 1.8T 03 which has been largely trouble free. It had a fault with the factory-sit radio which was draining the battery so I had that fixed under extended warranty but 2 weeks later the battery went flat so i had the AA jump start it and now the radio is completely dead (sure that'll be covered under parts guarantee) but the EPC warning light has come on and stayed on. -
Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 1.7td non starter 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
hi,i have recently aquired the cv off a friend.i put jump leads to it with a new battery too, still wont start.so i towed iyt and she fired up and purred like a kitten.shes been stood for a year. the only thing ive noticed now is that i have to put a jump lead to the engine just to get it to slighlty turn over. when i do this she turns as if the battery was dying, just a couple of turns then nothing. i left a small lead attached and it melted it straight away. when i was connecting the earth to the engine i could hear a relay somewhere clicking????? -
Non starting Vauxhall Astra DTI 20 May 2006 (Forum)
Bump started it to get me home (yes I know you're not supposed to with a diesel) on returning home, turned it off and tried to start it again and it did, first time. When I tried again earlier this evening, nothing??? It it just a new battery I need? I am with the RAC but don't want to waste a call out if it's only a battery I need. Thanx guys in advance of replies. Angie. -
M reg Fireblade RRS Won't Start!! 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 1995 (M) Honda fireblade 893cc, it has a manual choke, due to the recent cold weather we have had, i have had no time to ride it! I cane to start it yesterday, (it's had a new battery) and it would just turn over and backfire. The choke is fully out and i have checked the new battery, it is able to start a 2003 blackbird i have, so there are no problems with it. I think that moisture has probably got into the engine. -
Jump start advice 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
This was after waiting 5+ minutes for a charge to get through, revving my Astra, starting hers with my engine running, then mine off, basically doing all I could think of. Anything else to try before I go to buy her a new battery? She´s not an AA/RAC member BTW. Is her battery basically kippered? Her car had been standing for a while and was completely dead to begin with. Not a sausage. So that´s what I suspect. Any ideas gratefully received. -

Peugeot Radio Code 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Since changing the battery on my Peugeot 406, the radio has lost it's code (dispite using a slave battery!) and I cannot find the code anywhere at home. I contacted the supplying dealer who said because the car had not been to them for two years it had "dropped off the system", but the could give me the code for a fee of £25. -
Xantia alarm woes 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've had cause to remove and replace the battery several times this week, airflow are out of stock and I'm taking the battery off to charge it indoors. Each time I reset the alarm it seems to do different things, this time whenever I use the indicator the hazard warning lights come on, both green arrows on the dashboard and all indicators on the outside. -
really weird electrical problem - VWPolo 12 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I took my 96 1.9 diesel polo to a garage the other day due to poor starting. But whilst fixing the problem, they managed to set fire to some of the wiring (the battery had run flat and they were using a mains powered device to turn the engine over). After repairing the alternator, they were unable to work out why the alternator light was still on (the battery is charging fine) and why the rev-counter was reading artificially high (about 3000 rpm) whilst idling. -
Poorly Polo 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
It started again fine and has been fine ever since but, mother hen that I am, I'm a bit worried about him! Could it be that he needs a new battery or was he just cold and sulking at not being used all weekend? And if he needs a new battery is it just a case of buying one from Halfords and popping it in, or is a mechanic's job? Thank you!
