Flat Battery - Help 19 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Gentlemen - your attention please. Clear your minds of Speed Cameras, Limits,VW's and other inconsequental things and address your minds to my problem. I have, which apart from an excellent driving position and ease of entry for an 18 stone, 6ft 2" person with athritic left knee, what must be one of Britains poorest made vehicles - a 1986 Landrover Discovery. -
Cape Town driving- The Sun newspaper 3 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I expect the Germans and French would disagree. quote: ------------ There are also hardly any speed cameras. --------- Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V my comment above about the Black Labels. quote: ---------- In fact, there are probably more cameras on a five-mile stretch of the M25 than in the whole of South Africa. -------------- Ctrl-V quote: --------- And if you do get caught speeding, you simply get a fine instead of points on your licence. --------- Psssst... -
Renault Clio - Car damaged in Lidl 26 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The other driver tried to blame my wife for the accident and he would not give my wife his details. My wife checked with the store for CCTV Footage, But they didn't have cameras in the location of the car park. The guy told my wife that because it happened on private land and the damage isn't to bad, Then it would be better just to forget about it and for my wife to get the repair done out of her own pocket and he would get the repair done on his own car which was a little scuff that would T cut out. -
first impressions of my new Volvo XC60 D4 Auto 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
The DAB radio is excellent and the sterio also works well through bluetooth from my music library on my i phone. Satnav is simple to use and offers traffic reports and speed camera warnings. Cruise control is fine but I am not a fan really. Collision Avoidance works up to 17mph so you don't mow down people in car parks, over that it's up to you! Seats are very comfortable and there is lots of storage. -
Car Hire admin fee for an invalid parking ticket 17 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hello I have received a Parking Fine for a car I was using via Circle Leasing car hire. It's a parking charge notice issued by Parking Eye. (camera operated system at the local hospital). The T & C of the car hire company say they will pass on an admin fee of £30 for any parking fines, including those on private land. The fine is for not paying any parking at a local hospital and driving out the car park without paying. -
Any - Rear Ended 27 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The astra then drove off and i told the bus driver that i had stopped to ask his assistance as he would have seen it all, and he replied that he should have it on his onboard camera and that the other driver would be in trouble for having caused an accident and failing to stop. we exchanged details and he called his depot to inform them and said he would have to make a report. -
Audi S4 Avant - APCOA Airport Parking Southampton car damaged 9 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I did the normal email trail and ended up with an APCOA contract manager who again was not at all interested only in spouting company policy and vehicles left at owners risk. They even came up with our cameras were not working on these dates after I said I would come down and look at the CCTV footage. So fellow motorists beware your car is not as safe as you think when using these car parks and all they want is your money. -
NA - Revoked Drivers license 19 Jul 2012 (Forum)
So this is a mistake, but I have been driving for 5 years, and have clocked over 100,000 miles up and down the M6 & M1, I must have triggered hundereds of ANPR cameras so why have I never been pulled? In 2010 I was stopped for mistakenly running a running a temporary (road works) set of traffic lights on red, the traffic police checked my credentials out via the ANPR system and It I checked out as being fully legal. -
Peugeot 306 - Peugeot 306 XRDT Immobiliser Problem 26 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Today it has decided that it does indeed have an alarm and immobiliser, and I cannot start the car. The IR key fob is working (flashes shown in digital camera), and operates the central locking fine. I have tried resetting it but makes no difference. The alarm goes off when attempting to start the car. It stops after 15-20 seconds. The immobiliser also seems to prevent starting. -
Volvo - NEW CAR 19 Dec 2011 (Forum)
All minor things like: The passengers door speaker had protector spray on it that had not been rubbed in - looking like scuff marks a loose nut rattled around inside the drivers side door when accelerating/decelerating and going round corners foam protruding from passenger side windscreen Scratches on the left hand side windscreen wiper Scratch marks on the metal surrounding the gear stick the speaker housing on front passenger door has popped out 5cent piece sized scratch/blemish at front top centre of dash board above reversing camera/ below SatNav both back passenger side doors have irregular trim along the top Although all minor things ... when I purchased the car it was in brand new prestine condition with only 2km on it ... now it needed repairing which happened over 4 visits back to the dealership and there were an extra 55km on it. -
Parking ticket - no photo proof or ticket served 3 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Between him and the bike was another motorcycle courier, who was remonstrating with him. He finished writing the ticket and took out his camera, at which point this other courier (not anyone I knew, but presumably trying do a fellow courier a favour) stood up close to the back of the bike, preventing the attendant from getting a photograph that showed the numberplate. -

Focus TDCi - New set of alloys at 35K - road humps to blame? 17 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Something has to be done, and until a better idea comes along, it's the compromise, better-than-nothing answer: a simple trade off - damaged wheels, or damaged children - and we all know the answer to that one, don't we? Radars and speed cameras, I hear from the gentleman at the back...no good in Spain, drivers charge through red lights and STOP signs, flout speed limits, "forget" to pay their taxes... it's a different society; it's just the speed humps that are the same! -
Italian / French fixed penalties/ fines 26 May 2010 (Forum)
The copper in the driver's seat was pointing a device at me as I passed. I suspect it was some type of radar gun or possibly a hand-held camera. Nothing flashed and the car didn't chase me and I wasn't stopped further up the road. If anyone with real local knowledge as opposed to guesswork could tell me whether I'm likely to receive a ticket in a few weeks' time and what the fine is likely to be, I'd be grateful. -
3 points and its effect on insurance. 12 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Hi All, Simply put my car insurance was renewed 7th Jan 2010 (have been with the same company many yrs, up till now i had been happy), im 28 yr old with 7 yrs no claims, and no points, until now... On Dec 29th 2009, I was caught speeding by a fixed camera, and only found out mid Jan that I was to be fined, when I got the letter in the post. They offered me a Speed awareness course or 3 pts, the course was far away from me, would have involved taking a day off work, etc. so I called the company up to ask how either would affect my premium, I was told that in this yrs premium there will be no change, but next yrs there may be some impact, and it would work out the same whether I attended the course or took the points, so I chose the points. -
Day Trip to Calais - Summary 11 Nov 2009 (Forum)
One lady declined to sell us any because it was Saturday, so far as my limited French goes but we got what we wanted 100 yards away so that was a mystery! Nice uncrowded autoroutes, a few speed cameras and no visible police presence. Hope this help people thinking of a trip before Xmas -
DVLA Online Tax Rubbishness 28 May 2009 (Forum)
Apparently, once I've bought insurance (which could, given the insurance industry's capability, quite legitimately be as late as the evening of April 30th) *and* waited for the database to update, *then* I can buy a tax disc - which will take 5 working days to arrive. I'm told that for the first few days of May, all the ANPR cameras will know to ignore my out of date tax disc because the new one's in the post from Swansea. I'll believe that when I see it! Am I missing something, or is this monumentally stupid and unnecessary inconvenience the way things are supposed to be? -
Car security when parked in isolated places 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
What does a police "covert capture car" look like? Does it have privacy glass, does it have a real or dummy camera visible within (or not visible within?) and do "covert" cars get broken in to? Would an alarm stop a thief in the middle of the moor with no-one around? Should you empty the hatch and uncover it and open the glovebox to show it's empty? -
Is this an insurance scam 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Have others experienced this? I can only assume it is a scam to get cover on a car for a few days/weeks to avoid the new cameras for automatically checking whether a car has insurance? The insurer (Zurich), my bank (Cahoot) and the police (Thames Valley) haven't really been very helpful in the matter. My bank suggested I do nothing as it only happened twice and just wait and see. -
Wednesday Bridge Chaos in Scotland due to Weather 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I rest my case for getting Jeremy to advise , no run, the Governments both N&S of the Border. PS I recently acquired a Garmin SAT-NAV to augment the speed camera detector / navigation aid one I acquired in 1969 (1945 manufacture date). One has a nagging voice but I refuse to be drawn on which model.
