  • MPG vs gms CO2 / km - why not equivalen 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Ie one car that does 30 mpg may say produce 150 g/km whereas another that does 30 mpg may produce 175 g/km. Why? Surely if you burn the same amount of fuel per distance you produce the same amount of CO2 per the same distance - the chemistry of burning the fuel doesn't change. So how can the g/km figures vary so much between cars that use the same fuel type and have the same mpg?

  • MB E300 TD Fuel pump problem 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Friend of mine with 98R E300 TD suffered problems starting on a morning(car, not himself!)This was diagnosed by the AA as a leaking fuel pump, due to either a seal or cracked casing. Apparantly, he is informed by the MB dealer that the front of the engine has to be removed in order to gain access for replacement, and the cost is in the region of £3.5k!
  • turbodiesels and fuel economy 20 May 2003 (Forum)
Hello, Does anybody have real life experience of the average difference in mpg and performance between Peugeot HDI turbo diesels and VW/Audi PDI turbo diesels. How do Japanese turbo diesels compare in terms of fuel economy and reliability(toyota/ Nissan). How reliable is the turbo? What is the average engine life expectancy of the engine ? How good/bad are ford turbo diesels, scaning this web site seems to indicate poor mpg from fords?

  • Saxo VTR - Oil Warning Light/fuel guage 28 Jan 2003 (Forum)
About 1 time in 5 when starting the car the light flashes for approx 10 seconds, I've checked the oil level and this is fine, this seems to happen when the car is on a level and a hill and both when it's cold and hot. Also maybe connected my fuel guage is all over the place, when I started it this morning it was on reserve for about 5 mins and then shot up to 1/4 tank. Thanks Trinity
  • Saxo-106 Fuel filter 4 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I noticed that the plastic strap that holds the fuel filter in place on the wifes saxo has snapped. I have purchased a new one for the grand price of 86p (the quality is reflected in the price). That was the easy bit now it looks to me as though the tank has to be moved to gain access to press the strap into position.
  • Turbo Diesel Cars- precautions 18 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Also I believe one should NOT change the oil in the engine until 1 year is up to ensure the wearing in of the mating surfaces, but thereafter every six months? Poor lubrication of fuel pump caused by bad fuel can give premature pump failure, should I avoid buying fuel from the same source to avoid this event? Any other suggestions?
  • minis are dangerous! 6 Sep 2001 (Forum)
All new Mini's are being recalled to BMW's Oxford factory because of a design fault that could cause an explosion when the cars are being filled with fuel. Static electricity could cause a small spark when a petrol pump nozzle is inserted which could in turn ignite fuel vapour in a flash fire. The problem was discovered when testers found special paint used to earth the fuel filler neck was wearing off too quickly.
  • Biodiesel 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Having recently bought a diesel (Golf GT TDI - we were originally going for the Seat Leon 20VT Cupra but for a 25000 miles pa fuel bill) I was curious to see where I could purchase biodiesel or find out if or when it would be available. A trawl of the web has yielded some interesting technical papers discussing and comparing the emissions content and environmental credentials of various fuels but not a great deal on where they're available.
  • Fuel additive 18 Dec 2000 (Forum)
None of the Audi main dealers who serviced it regularly over most of its 10-year life with me solved the problem, which was almost certainly attributable to coking up because of short-trip usage. I did solve it finally, with VAG's own fuel additive (part number G 001 700 03), which eliminated the problem entirely and gave me first-feather-touch-of the-key starting as well. I've sworn by it ever since and it's cheaper than the stuff you can get from accessories shops.

  • road tax 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I know its an old old chestnut but why don't we scrap all this road tax and pricing and just tax fuel? If you don't drive much then you save, if you have a guzzler you might lose but there would be no tax dodgers and you have some freedom on how much fuel to use.
