Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 2.0 Strange non starting fault 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Today I had the faults cleared from when I put the EGR valve on. Went to start it and it wouldn't fire up. It is turning over but not firing. I knew it had low fuel but still some in but because my fuel gauge was low I put 5L of diesel in anyway, bled up and it started. Got less than half a mile and it cut out again. I was close to a petrol station so decided to put another 5 litres in. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8TDCi car cutting out at speed 10 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Managed to get it going again but over the next few days same thing happened and it seems a common problem which others have referred to in previous posts. Car taken to a diesel specialist who said....The new fuel filter was a poor quality he had seen this problem on other cars so he fitted a new bosch filter. Over the past 3 weeks the car has been fine, so if it was ok before the filter was changed and has been ok after another filter has been fitted it seems almost certain the problem was down to a dodgy filter. -

“Many people do not realize that when you run a car or truck on gasoline of diesel fuel, you are actually running it on hydrogen. And all we are doing is using the hydrogen from water. And under the National Bureau of Standards figures shows that when you use water, the energy release is roughly two and a half times more powerful then that of gasoline. -
Honda Accord DTECH 2.2 - VSA Triangular sign ON 17 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Hello guys, I am new and first timer on this forum and hope someone would lead me in the right direction. I have Honda Accord DTECH 2008 model diesel with 93k on the clock. Yesterday I took the car to a registered garage (Not Honda garage) for full service, All the service parts used including engine oil is from Honda dealer. The only item could not be replaced is fuel filter as the mechanic could not open the fuel filter housing cap so he removed the housing from the car and try opening it, he did not want to apply extra force in case it break the housing which would cost £300 for the unit so the housing was put back without changing the fuel filter. -
It's not all Black and White! 15 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I drive 38 miles each way to work so 384 miles week. I've driven both cars to work for a week and worked out the average Fuel Consumption for each The Volvo 35mpg and the Bora 47mpg. Doing my sums it will cost me at todays fuel prices £553 a year more to drive the Volvo to work over the bora. But here is the rub, I brought the volvo before the fuel prices went silly and paid £4500 14 months ago. -

2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X Petrol - Spluttering with pulling away 24 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I bought a 2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X Petrol about a year and a half ago and when driving it had a slight splutter/judder every now and then. I have seen a few posts on here with a similar issue, but on the Diesel version. Now it is winter, when the engine is cold it really does splutter, judder almost like fuel starvation. When I took it to the Garage for it's MOT 3 months back I also had a MAJOR service, I told the guys about this and they looked into it but could not find anything. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1997 1.9TD Terrible Starter 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I thought that it might be an injector problem so I have used some Redex Diesel injector cleaner additive. This was half a tank ago but no improvement has been seen. Regards, Gary. -
Ford Transit 100 T260 - lack of power 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sometimes it accelerates at lower speed through the rev range impressively and then the next minute it runs out of steam shortly after the turbo gives a bit of boost. Totally upredictable! It's just undergone a big service, changing oil, fuel, airfiler (clogged worse than I've ever seen one!) and this has made no different to performance :-(. Fuel economy seems fine and it doesn't kickout smoke (that I can see) or missfire. There are no error lights present on the dash. -
Troubled conscience 14 May 2005 (Forum)
Did I wait until the new plastic domestic oil tank arrives? Er, no, I added it to the 40 litres of diesel already in my car's fuel tank. But, I have a feeling that I need to pay some fuel duty on this. Anyone know if there is a precedent for this? Or should I just forget about it, and take an extra Scotch at night to help me sleep? -
LPG/Calor Gas cylinders 13 Aug 2004 (Forum)
According to him, many cars out there are LPG converted but those with older cars are not using the LPG tanks but putting "Calor" gas cylinders in the boot and running from those instead as it is cheaper. Now obviously in the UK this would be very naughty as like red diesel there is no road fuel duty on gas cylinders but in theory how easy would it be to convert an LPG car to run from cylinders? I asked someone I know in the business and he said he'd never heard of it being done but you certainly get gas cylinder powered fork-lift trucks. -
Mondeo running problems 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, I have a Mondeo 1.8 TD (L Registration), which was until recently running fine. I was low on fuel a couple of Saturdays ago (Just on the red) so I put £20.00 worth of diesel in from Tesco. I drove home (approximately 20 miles) and it ran fine. I did not use the car again until the Monday morning when I drove it to friends (about 3 miles away.) -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2003 2.0 320d turbo boost problem 5 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Independent mechanic NOTE : Car boost was perfect at this point ? and only seemed noticeable from 120,000 miles on. 3. Fuel Pump to fuel tank @ 125,000 Miles ? Independent mechanic 4. Fuel Pump (intermediate) @ 125,000 miles ? Independent mechanic 5. 4 fuel injectors fitted ? BMW dealer NOTE: Changing the fuel injectors solved the warm start problem; however turbo boost problem still was not resolved. 6. -
Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - Unexpected poor fuel consumption figs. 24 May 2008 (Forum)
The car was superb and I had no issues with it. In September my circumstances changed and I got a new job with a company van with fully expensed fuel etc so I decided it was time to give my Astra up :-(. During this time my Girlfriends car decided to pack in and we decided to get rid of the astra (Mainly due to the fuel consumption) and downgrade. i went to Vauxhall and asked what they could do for me regarding a possible swap for another Astra (maybe a diesel?). -
Workhorse saloon under 2.5k? 30 Jul 2017 (Forum)
He'll mainly use the car for work, needs it to be saloon style for the boot space, he's thinking diesel for fuel economy and idealy not less reliable or more expensive at maintaining/parts than his previous Passat What do you guys think? -
Ford Mondeo TDCI 2004 - Mondeo TDCI non-starter after injector change 17 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Car was running rough, struggling to start and had several codes pointing to injector problems.. Ran a leak-off test, 1 and 3 were pi**ing out diesel. Just changed both injectors, engine started, then coded injectors and engine hasn't started since? good fuel pressure on cranking, new battery just wont fire. on easy start just starts then cuts out a second later.. -
New car query, economy related 3 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I have come to seek advice as I am after a new car, as my current Mitsubishi Galant much as love it, is not the most fuel efficient! I am looking at a 7/8 year old diesel or petrol hatchback, preferably in the 1.4l category which achieves high mpg figures I cover around 200 miles a week mostly on A roads and Motorways with little 'urban' driving. -
Medium Van - Merc Vito or VW Transporter?? 20 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Looking for something that's practical, but also stylish, quick and comfortable. Something 2 - 3 years old, low mileage and with the more powerful (diesel) engine option. Preferably a tiptronic auto box for all the city driving. I like the Merc Vito, but also the VW Transporter. Which is bigger, the VW looks it? In the terms of reliability, residual value and fuel efficiency, which comes out on top? -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.5d starting problems 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi I just started to have trouble starting my 106 1.5 diesel yesterday.it allways started ok before. what happens is the car turns over fine but will not try to fire if you put the key in and out of the ignition and turn it off and on it will eventually start. the problem as far as I can tell is from the immobilizer or the fuel cut-off solenoid is sticking.
