What's your WORST MPG? 24 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I've just had 38mpg from a tankful, which is only the second sub-40mpg tankful the Passat's given in 4 years (due to short commute, cold mornings, no journey over 15 miles). It's still over 50% better than the 23mpg my Volvo T4 gave during winter one time .... -
classy coupe 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Has to be 2-door (she hates 4 doors, doesn't feel safe- not logical but there it is). My mind instantly said: Volvo C70, Honda Prelude, Toyota Celica, Honda Accord Coupe, Saab 900 coupe. Thoughts? Cheers, Alex. -- Dr Alex Mears MG BGT 1971 If you are in a hole stop digging...unless you are a miner. -
Front Fogs = Fixed Penalty 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
He was interviewed and did not come across as other than someone who was angry at an unwarranted ticket; and with some justification IMO if the facts were as presented on TV. I must admit I did not know it was an offence and cannot see the difference between Volvos and Motorbikes with daytime running lights. I wonder if there is more to the story? -
Loyalty offers 1 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Therefore, you are the recipient of this exclusive loyalty catalogue containing some exceptional savings on models across the Volvo range". Odd then that it's monkey's like the S40 and V40 (ahem) Classic that are listed in the catalogue, and not good sellers like the V70 or new S40 and V50! The discounts are not that hot either, and can easily be bettered elsewhere. -
Tyre Wear 5 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Volvo V70 which as recently started to have excessive tyre wear on the outer shoulder of the rear tyres. It's like you get on front tyres after knocking the tracking out after kerbing it etc. It's on both the rear tyres though. -
Distributor cap protection? 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Firstly, may I extend a thanks to HJ for his invaluable CBC breakdown which pointed to distributor cap misery in my Girlf's Volvo 340. Saved me many hours. I've changed the cap and I'm now looking to waterproof it. HJ mentions a special sleeve but initial inquiries have turned up nowt. It's so old now (the car not the Girlf) that I doubt I'll find one. -
Value these two cars please? 27 May 2003 (Forum)
Also, which would be a better bet? 1) Rover 214 SLi 95N manual met.red 123k in excellent condition and aircon. 2) Volvo T-5 GLT 96N manual met.green 85k, no history but aircon. Need to decide very quickly so any comment appreciated. (I have already read the CxC Breakdowns very carefully) It will be for girlfriend to run around in London. -
Ford Mondeo Graphite 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Little brother can get it via his Ford Priviledge Access for £11,099 on-the-road! Worth it or should I have 20% discount on a Volvo instead? RickyBoy (still driving my tried and trusted '98 Octavia SLX...) -
put car in my garage or not? 16 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I was impressed by the recent article in the Telegraph about the 2 million mile Volvo, and while there was lots of advice on how to achieve this mileage, regular oil changes, quality petrol, etc. there was nothing on whether it is was a good idea to keep a car garaged. One would think that leaving a wet car inside is not a good idea, but does any one have the experience to say keeping a car in the open is worse that putting it away. -
Wheel Weights 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I complained, asking why they didn't put them on the inside (even Kwik Fit do that!) and got a jobsworthy answer along the "that's how they always do it" line. Eventually, Volvo customer service sent me £100 toward a re-furb but surely it is totally unecessary to do this in the first place? -
car gas 31 Aug 2002 (Forum)
When I was in the uk I had a gas system fitted to my Ford Explorer. What a disaster it cost more to run it on gas than petrol ,would not change over consistently and cut out for no reason on gas.I have had it removed and had to have the EC remapped. On returning to Germany I talked to Ford and they imform me that their own systems on the mondeo and volvo are also a disaster(unofficially)and the technology does not exist to gaurentee a good convertion on all vehicles.I know there are some succesfull convertions out there but buyer beware. Also it was not a fly by night company that did the converstion. regards Andy Bairsto -
Big diesel towcar? 23 Jul 2002 (Forum)
So now we are on the lookout for a big diesel that will tow a large caravan and still be relatively economical for day to day use. The budget is as cheap as possible. Under £4k. I have suggested Audi 100 2.5TDI and Volvo 850 TDI. Any other suggestions? -
Blind spots 28 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I'm 5 foot 10 so I'm about the 50th percentile, guess there must be lots suffering worse than me. Makes that Volvo concept with see-thru pillars seem like a good idea. -
power steering 7 Mar 2002 (Forum)
For your information, some three weeks ago a thread mentioned a Forte Power Steering Enhancer formulation that you need only pour into the reservoir. The car is a 1989 Volvo 740 at 98K miles, the power steering was very stiff at low speed and non existent on start. Following advice from Forte, I drained the old fluid out and replenished with new plus the enhancer. There has been an improvement, the car is more responsive but I feel it is only a temporary arrangement until I can afford a new steering rack. -
Turbo whine. 29 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I have a 91 volvo 480 turbo. I got it a few weeks ago and it seemed ok then (Maybe l wasn't listening). Of late l have begun to notice a whine (like a short low braking squeak) when l am coming OFF the throttle after the turbo has kicked in. -
Volvo XC90 (2002 - ) - 2003 2.9L Transmission problems 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
At this point, I received transmission service urgent warnings about once a week. The codes referred simply to "incorrect gear ratio". I had the car seen by Volvo who recommended a new gearbox (no surprise there 7-) and I contacted Volvo UK to see if they would help pay for the gearbox as they have done in the UK & throughout the world as my car had only done 61K miles. -

VW Polo - What's the best thing to do with our Polo? 11 Nov 2012 (Forum)
We currently pay £200 per month and as we are self employed and times are harder than when we took on the finace, getting rid of the £200 monthly payment will be quite welcome. We also have a Volvo 940 estate that is very reliable and in excellent condition that we own outright. Our quandry is, if we decide to get rid of the car, what is the way of going about it. We can hand the car back to VW but we feel it is worth more than £5600 so that means we are giving VW money that would be useful to us. -
