Bags of Bargains at Blackbushe Today 23 Oct 2002 (News)
Auction prices are now very definitely dropping to the usual seasonal low, particularly for finance end of-contract-cars and snatchbacks. Instead of running them through the halls relentlessly in an attempt to improve on low bids, finance companies are now taking the money. Lowlights of today included a spotless silver 14,000 mile 2001Y Vectra 2.2iLS, freshly serviced at 13,000 miles, sold for just £6,150. -
Scramble for Cars at Auction Today 24 Jul 2002 (News)
But, not letting the side down, a 68,000 mile 2.0LX four door with a/c and alloys shot straight past its reserve of £4,400 to sell for £4,700, a 79,000 mile 99V 1.8iLX 5-door with a/c and rust in the back window sold for £4,750 and a silly spec 28,000 mile 99V 1.8 Zetec 3-door with neither climate pack nor sunroof bid to £5,750. Handsome Rover 75s also make the running with private buyers. An unmarked 28,000 mile Oxford built 99V 2.0 V6 Connoisseur, resplendent in Wedgwood Blue metallic, made a whopping £9,000 and a 20,000 mile Oxford built 2000W 2.5 V6 Club SE in much less fetching Arden Green bid to £9,650. -

Auction Prices High, but Bargains for the Brave 1 Mar 2002 (News)
With very few exceptions, prices remained solid as a traffic-calming kerbstone. And the trade was paying the big money rather than just running up Billy Bunters. £10,550 was a lot for 40,000 mile 99V Honda CRV 2.0 ES. So was £8,775 for a 55,000 mile 2000W Passat TDI SE badged as a 115 but described as a 90. So was £14,200 for a 33,000 mile 2000W Lexus IS200 S automatic. -

Big Historic Car Racing Event at Castle Combe This Weekend 2 Oct 2012 (News)
Prebble normally has little opposition, though there have been rumours of a return of Melksham's Simon Norris in his even more powerful Evo, which could give Prebble some work to do. Bath driver Guy Parr has his Nemesis in class A run by the Dursley based Wayne Poole Racing team. In the 'Invitation' class are four drivers from the Nissan Playstation GT Academy in their 370Zs, up against Josh Smith from Weston Super Mare in his Radical PR6. -

Hidden Heroes: Fiat Bravo HGT 10 May 2019 (News)
. Then there was the power delivery - smooth, tractable and free-revving, it felt more powerful than it was. That was further addressed in 2000 with the run-out model, the HGT 155, which had 154bhp (or 155PS, from which it gained its name). The extra 10 horses, along with some Abarth body styling features, made it even more interesting to drive. It handled tidily, too. -
Hidden Heroes: SEAT Toledo V5 5 Apr 2019 (News)
First, it’s an oddball, and we like cars that don’t conform. Second, it’s a cracking car to drive, and those high running costs, coupled to the fact that not many people know what it is, mean that used prices are devilishly cheap. Scouring the small ads, the cheapest example we found was just £295, with four months’ MoT, while if you’ve got £1000 to spend then apart from the examples already cherished by enthusiasts, you can pretty much take your pick. If you do, then what you’ll end up with is a real Q-car. -
1954 Austin Healey 5.7 V8 in Historics 2nd March Classic Car Auction 25 Feb 2019 (News)
Nevertheless, Healey Chevrolets were often seen at British speed hillclimbs in the 1960s, sometimes jacked up between runs while their owners changed the spark plugs via the front wheelarches (they wouldn't have had that problem with a Chrysler hemi). This particular car was imported from the USA in 2011, underwent a ground up restoration, was fitted with a 5-speed Tremec manual transmission and a Ford 9-inch diff. -
Beaulieu's veteran bus celebrates 40th anniverssary 3 Jul 2018 (News)
Beaulieu’s workshop engineers have kept the bus running for 45 years of service, modifying and improving its braking system, steering and parts of its body structure. In 1995, the worn-out original engine was replaced with a new, old stock ‘crate’ unit which had been destined to power a diesel generator. -
A Grand Monday: Rover 400 27 Mar 2017 (News)
The 200 would shrink a little to compete with the larger superminis, and would be a Rover-only bodyshell built around an R8 bulkhead and running gear. The 400, meanwhile, would be far more closely related to the latest Honda Civic, using the same bodyshell, bulkhead, dashboard moulding, roof, doors and tailgate. If the R8 was a sea change for Rover, then in media terms the new model (known internally as HHR) was a bit of a disappointment. -

Historic competition Camaro set for Race Retro sale 16 Jan 2017 (News)
After two further seasons the Camaro was retired from racing in 1973 and retained by Thomas. However, in the early 1990s, he decided to rebuild the car and return it to circuit, running a 5.0-litre V8 engine mated to a four-speed close-ratio Muncie 'rock-crusher', with a fresh, blue livery which it still retains today. In 2004 the car was then sold to the current owner, who has continued to successfully compete the Camaro at the Heritage Grand Touring Cars, the Aston Martin Owners’ Club Masters and Classic Sports Car Club events. -
NEC Classic Motor Show 2016: Touring car rivals go head to head at auction 7 Nov 2016 (News)

Presented in 'Blauschwarz' metallic paint, the car features a Black Anthracite leather interior with wood trim, numbered dog-leg gear stick, air conditioning, a fire extinguisher, rear mounted loudspeakers and heated front seats. -
Five Grand Friday: Skoda Octavia vRS 7 Aug 2015 (News)
The TFSI engine isn't terribly thirsty - it will return 37.7mpg according to the official figures at least. With this kind of car you'll want to run it on a premium fuel like Shell V-Power Nitro+ which should help retain the vRS performance and aid fuel economy too. We think this generation Octavia still looks good, especially the more angular pre-facelift version that this is. -
A Grand Monday: Porsche 944 8 Sep 2014 (News)
It’s also had new front wishbones, discs, pads and CV joints replaced, as well as benefitting from a reconditioned alternator and starter motor – not uncommon in these cars as the wiring harness runs close to the exhaust manifold, which often causes problems. The vendor says the sills were welded in 2008 and have been annually rustproofed, but they could still need special attention. The seller tells us the paintwork is flat and the reacted badly. -

Sir Stirling also returned to the Credit Suisse Drivers Club on Saturday morning for a fascinating and amusing fireside chat with Henry Hope-Frost to recall his competition career, including his memories of racing, and winning, at the Principality in both the Maserati in 1956, and a Lotus 18 in 1960 and 1961. -

Hydrogen powered cars step closer to production reality 17 Jul 2013 (News)
For private buyers the reality of a hydrogen power is a fair way off, but the hope is that FCEVs will be as affordable as petrol or diesel cars, both to buy and run, by the mid 2020s. Graham Cooley of ITM Power, one of the companies participating in the infrastructure roll out, says hydrogen fuel hould cost from £6 to £8 per kg, which would make the cost of filling the ix35 FCEV between £30-40, giving a range of up to 410 miles – which is fairly respectable if the cost of the car comes down to an affordable level.
